a-korean-odyssey kdramaSummary: Son Oh Gong, the monkey king is bound to protect Jin Seon Mi through a powerful bracelet called Geumganggo. The geumganggo has the power to enslave him by making him fall in love with the person who let him wear the bracelet and protect that person wholeheartedly. So Son Oh Gong has been following Jin Seon Mi around and protecting her from all evil spirits which are bothering her.

Trailer: A Korean Odyssey

Genre: Fantasy, Romance, Comedy, Horror
Episodes: 20
Stars: Lee Seung Ki as Son Oh Gong
Cha Seung Won as King Wooma
Oh Yeon Seo as Jin Sun Mi
Lee Hong Ki as P.K
Jang Kwang as Yoon Dae Sik
Lee El as Ma Ji Young

Likes: The Story – at first it was confusing and the storyline was somewhat chaotic. I didn’t have a background of the original so I was quite lost. The beginning was like Alice in Wonderland with ghosts, evil spirits, demons, then even came a zombie. It was like a fantasy-horror roller-coaster! Lost but quite enjoying the adventure. Later on, our leading man was clear – handsome, mischievous, powerful – well, basically a god. Our leading lady, the girl in distress  didn’t and leave our handsome god a choice but to protect and love her. With that, I was happy, we’re back in a kdrama world, lol!

The Characters and the Cast – It took me a while to get used to the characters and understand how important and powerful each one of them as most of them were immortals but as soon as I got the hang of it, everything made more sense.

  • Lee Seung Ki as Son Oh Gong –  he is definitely most handsome in this role! I think he did so well as the rude monkey always teasing his girl but then always giving in to her. Among LSK’s kdrama, this is the first one he really connected and had an awesome chemistry with his leading lady which made him more handsome. I love how arrogant, angry, rude and hot-tempered Son Oh Gong was! A change to our normal sweet and polite kdrama leading man.
  • Oh Yeon Seo as Jin Sun Mi – She’s always pretty but she never really had a proper chemistry with his leading men in the past, maybe because of those strong and brave roles she was in. However, as Jin Seon Mi, Oh Yeon So became like a little girl who was a having a crush on someone older. She was more vulnerable which suits nicely with Son Oh Gong’s rough character. Her moments with Son Oh Gong were always something to watch for.
  • Cha Seung Won as Ma Wang – this guy is not just tall and handsome but a good actor as well. Cha Seung Won didn’t disappoint me as the vain, powerful, funny but carries sadness in his heart – Ma Wang, the bull King. Cha Seung Won’s acting was commendable, he would go from funny, quirky to sad. All with impressive facial expressions!
  • Lee Hong Ki as P.K – the naughty and mischievous Dwaeji! Suits Lee Hong Ki so well!
  • Lee El as Ma Ji Young – I love her, she’s gorgeous and she can act too!

The Kissing Scenes – Is it me or they’re very generous with kissing scenes these days. After I’m Not a Robot, this drama comes next to having an elaborate kissing scene this year. Not that I’m complaining, I LOVE IT! Bring in some more of these scenes! Our 2 top leads did a great job! They looked good and in love when they kissed, very convincing ;). I specially like the kiss at the bookshop. It was the famous reactivation kiss!

Bromance – my favourite is the bromance between Son Oh Gong and Ma Wang. It’s like they don’t like each but they like each other. They were so cute to watch especially when it comes to Son Oh Gong’s coat which he always hung on Ma Wang’s bull statue. The latter would get annoyed but then later missed him when there was no one anymore doing that.

The OST – I so love the song When I Saw You! Check out the rest of the OST as well.

Bizarre Stuff – The Winter General and the Summer Fairy were one person! It was more bizarre than the black dragon! Honestly, it took me a while to realize that haha. Also, the rotting smell of Bu Ja was successfully conveyed (at least to me) by how rotting she looked. Great acting and great job makeup artists!

The Outfits – This has a high probability in bagging the best in outfits/costume award which I’ll give later this year. Everyone looked good in their well-fitted outfits! I can imagine a lot of money went to this one.

The Ending – since the start of the show, the ending was always pointing to a sad one. However, I like  how I got my consolations. I can deal with that ending! It’s all good then :).

Dislike – the only complain I have here is how Son Oh Gong was pushed into that super “rich” character. It was unnecessary. I found it trying hard somehow.

My Rating: 8.5 stars! (10 as highest)

money flower kdramaSummary: Kang Pil Joo, the most capable lawyer of one of the biggest and most powerful and influential Chong-ah group has been waiting for that crucial moment to take over the company. But he’s got competitions! Lots of them, all very powerful and influential. Since he’s very determined, he is willing to do everything including giving up the woman he loves.

Trailer: Money Flower

Genre: Romance, Political
Episodes: 24
Stars: Jang Hyuk as Kang Pil Joo
Park Se Young as Na Mo Hyun
Jang Seung Jo as Jang Boo Chun
Han So Hee as Yoo Seo Won

Likes: How can I resist a wonderful drama with Jang Hyuk but putting my man aside, Money Flower is one exemplary drama about people who are driven by greed. People who think they can control everything with money. We’ve got here a fantastic story with equally fantastic cast. The outcome is simply breathtaking, heart-pounding, heartbreaking, full of surprises and emotions. This is one top-notch drama in pulling threads. Whoever has the most money can control more. Interesting as well as entertaining!

Why breathtaking? Look out for those scenes like the one at the bird sanctuary where Kang Pil Joo was observing the girl he loves but was ready to give her away. The Jung Mal Ran scene as she was entering the room to meet the father of her future daughter-in-law. The revelation and bowing scene by Kang Pil Joo to the honorary chairmain finally revealing himself as the eldest grandchild. This drama is full of these breathtaking moments so brace yourself!

Why heart-pounding? Ah yes it did to mine, a lot! Heart-pounding moments are those moments which are… almost. Yes, almost. Almost-stabbed, almost-strangulated, almost-poisoned, almost-died! But we also have almost-kissed, almost-runaway with him, almost-happy ever after?

Why heartbreaking? Ugh, yes the heartbreaks! Lots of ’em too! Our top leads suffered a lot from this. Kang Pil Jo, basically, since he was little as he lost everyone around him. Na Mo Hyun, what a heartbreak when you’re given away by the man you love!!!

Why full of surprises and emotions? There’s no doubt for these. We’ve got incredible cliffhangers, crazy revelations (equates to “I’m your father Luke!”), turning of events and characters… crazy rollercoaster ride but fun!

Okay, now to our cast. This is also one top-notched cast. I love Jang Hyuk to begin with. I love his sad facial expression throughout the drama. He’s so handsome even when he’s sad. Park Se Hyung, is a wonderful actress. She did well in her character. But 3 actors caught my attention…

Jang Seung Jo as Jang Boo Chun – I was surprised to see how great this young actor was. Very natural! He switches from each emotion to another with ease. Naturally talented!

Lee Mi Sook as Jung Mal Ran – This lady is not just beautiful but a brilliant actress as well. In her character as Jung Mal Ran, she portrayed a classy, rich, controlling woman whose mere ambition is for her son to take over the family’s business. She was excellently ruthless!

Lee Soon Jae as Jang Gook Hwan – This veteran actor is no veteran for nothing! He was awesome as the honorary chairman of Chong-ah, the founder, the father of them all! Even at his age, he was wise, powerful, influential and very ruthless.

Additional icing to the cake…

  • I love the bitching between Boo Cheon and Yeo Cheon.
  • The bromance between Kang Pil Joo and Boo Cheon.
  • The OST is worth checking out!
  • The Jang House is worth checking out too! It’s called Gyeongwonjae Ambassador Incheon – it’s a hotel!
  • Jung Mal Ran’s classy outfits! She wore them all well.

The ending? I love how it ended! I was prepared and I think it was reasonable.

Dislikes: Nothing worth mentioning.

My Rating: 8.5 stars! (10 as highest)

while-you-were-sleeping kdramaSummary: Nam Hong Joo dreams a lot about what is going to happen in the future and that includes deaths of people around her including herself. She is trying to prevent such unfortunate events to happen but unsuccessful until she meets Jung Jae Chan, a prosecutor who just moved to her neighbourhood.

Trailer: While You Were Sleeping
Genre: Fantasy, Legal, Romance
Episodes: 32 (35 minute per episode)
Stars: Lee Jong Suk as Jung Jae Chan
Bae Suzy as Nam Hong Joo
Lee Sang Yeob as Lee Yoo Bum
Jung Hae In as Han Woo Tak
Go Sung Hee as Shin Hee Min

Likes: A pretty simple love story turned complex with all the branching stories and twists which are related to one another. Every episode always ended with a surprise twist making it hard to wait for the next one. Every legal case was an own thriving, though short but rich substory. So what was my favourite case-story? I loved Do Hak Young’s case, the guy who was accused of killing the professional archer. It was mind boggling, full of emotions and we’ve got our handsome prosecutor siding with him and the equally handsome police officer defending him.

I like the concept of dreaming the future happenings of someone that once saved your life though it has its consequences. But in the drama, I’m glad they take the consequences in a lighter way like seeing how dirty the person lives when they are alone :).

The melodrama, comedy, fantasy, legal and romance genre-combination in this drama is well-balanced. Not too sad, not too silly, not too unreal, not too serious and not too cheesy. Just right!

The cast. What can I say, this drama is this year’s Lee Jong Suk’s anticipated. I was definitely waiting for it. So of course…

Lee Jong Suk as Jung Jae Chan – our handsome, a bit clumsy, newb prosecutor is here to make your heart ladies, thump :)! Although his prosecutor character is not his best, he still did a great job. As expected his kiss is a talent. I always get carried away when this guy kisses his leading ladies. Suzy you’re sooo lucky! And yes his tear-jerker scenes were excellent!

Bae Suzy as Nam Hong Joo – hm, not a big fan of her but she did her best. I think this is the first more mature role I’ve ever seen of her and I must say, she exerted effort to fulfill it.

Lee Sang Yeob as Lee Yoo Bum – I’m surprised but this guy was brilliant! He’s a natural, a very good actor. He took the role of the sneaky, corrupted lawyer with ease. Hands down! He has a bright future in acting.

Jung Hae In as Han Woo Tak – damn, he’s so fine in uniform! At times handsome, at times cute, brave and smart but unfortunately didn’t get the girl but gives us girls impression, he’s available! Haha!

Kim Won Hae as Choi Dam Dong – honorable mention to this guy who’s always brilliant in every role he takes. He’s a must-watch in Strong Woman Do Bong Soon!

Kim So Hyun cameo – love her! She’s a grown up lady now and a brilliant actress. Short role here but she made an impact.

Kissing scenes! Watching Lee Jong Suk kisses his leading ladies is the icing of his drama cakes. I’m glad there were plenty of icing on this one.

I shouldn’t forget, that green umbrella! It’s been with us viewers from the beginning to end :). A nice, twisty touch!

The bitter-sweet ending. As I mentioned above, it’s a well-balanced drama. The last episode has its share of sadness and happiness. I like how it ended, it was good.

Dislikes: Well, although Suzy tried her best here, I didn’t see much chemistry between her and Lee Jong Suk. In fact, she never established a good one with her leading men in the past as well.

I like how Lee Sang Yeob acted his role but the role itself was quite off. For someone who was smart and intelligent would go down to killing not just another person but his ex-girlfriend to correct his past mistakes, hm…

My Rating: 8.5 stars! (10 as highest)

the king-loves kdramaSummary: The crown prince of Goryeo falls in love with Eun San even before he realized she’s the daughter of the richest man of Goryeo. With all the power he has, would he go to great lengths to have her eventhough he knows she has fallen for Wang Rin, his bestfriend.

Trailer: The King Loves
Genre: Period, Romance, Melodrama
Episodes: 32 (35 minute per episode)
Stars: Im Shi Wan as Wang Won
Im Yoon Ah as Eun San
Hong Jong Hyun as Wang Rin
Oh Min Suk as Song In

Likes: I like this drama since start to finish although my heart was slowly breaking towards the end! So many reasons to love the show and I will try to enumerate the really relevant ones…

  • Goryeo Era – I only saw a few drama based on this period but the world is as beautiful as the Joseon era. The royal clothing and accessories were more intricate and generous on gold, definitely an attention getter. I’m pretty sure, the costume designers overdid it a bit but all the wardrobes in this drama were so perfect to look at. The royals looked every inch like royalties, the nobles were full of nobility, the ladies were so graceful and the men were irrisistibly so handsome!
  • Cast – This is one of the obvious reasons why praise this drama. It’s loaded with oh-so-brilliant actors!!! Let me begin with the top leads…

Im Shi Wan – omo, he’s not just super cute, he can actually act! I love his charisma in this drama. I was for Crown Prince from the beginning till the end that’s why my heart is still totally broken as of this writing :(. Im Shi Wan (mark my word), will be one of the most bankable leading men in kdrama.

Hong Jong Hyun – his character here as Wang Rin; a quiet, loyal and bestfriend to the crown prince suits him better than his villainous character in Moon Lover. He was tall, handsome and dashing even beating our crown prince a few notches when it comes to the looks department.

Im Yoon Ah – ah she’s cute. I can’t resist watching a drama where she’s in. She gave justice to a character who was the subject of affection of both our top gorgeous leading men.

Oh Min Suk as Song In – Awesome villain! He was sooo annoyingly gooood!

Jang Young Nam as Queen Jangmok – I love the queen how she was trying to do her best to protect her son. Her last moment was unbearably dramatic and heartbreaking. She did a great job!

Honorable mentions are the King, Queen Mu and Crown Princess. Everyone did a great job even those who had the-not-so important roles.

  • The Story – I’ve read that it’s based from a novel so a lots of people predicted who the girl would end with but I think the most important is how well the story was adapted into a drama. I love the story. It was well-told, bitter-sweet story of true love, loyalty and friendship.
  • The King Loves OST – I recommend listening to the songs from this drama. They are so beautiful!
  • Beautiful Scenes – Throughout the entire drama, I’ve seen so beautiful moments, some connotes love, friendships, happiness but a few of sadness – sad but still beautiful. I love that pretty scene of the 3 of them together in the mountain full of pink flowers and I love the farewell scene when crown prince was standing next to that famous giant tree, looking at San who was with Rin from the far saying his final goodbye. Wahhh! Tear-jerking!
  • The Ending – Although it didn’t go how I wanted it, after I’ve calmed down from being brokenhearted, I did some thinking and I realized it was better that it ended that way. Wahhh (again)! I love the narration at the end, like a great story told and I love how the Love of the Crown Prince (later King) was highlighted. It gives an answer as to why the title is “The King Loves”!

Dislikes: Faux spring flowers were just everywhere. They quite overdid this part. Sometimes, everything looked so fake.

My Rating: 8.5 stars! (10 as highest)

whisper kdramaSummary: Shin Young Joo is a police officer who is trying to prove the innocence of his father for being accused as the murderer of his own friend. She then meets judge Lee Dong Jun and wants to take revenge on him for making a false ruling to her father’s case. To prove her fathers innocence, she is about to fight the who’s who in the biggest law firm Taebaek but of course only if she collaborates with Lee Dong Jun.

Genre: Political, Romance, Legal
Episodes: 17
Stars: Lee Sang Yoon as Lee Dong Joon
Lee Bo Young as Shin Young Joo
Kwon Yool as Kang Jung Il
Park Se Young as Choi Soo Yun

Likes: Political war in its finest! It was just like shooting each other with tactics and defending one’s self with more tactics! It was a battle to watch and thank goodness I’m not in that battlefield. It’s one of the best well-written script. I’m no lawyer but I could tell the writers had done a lot of research to make the story real or close to being real.

So many good actors here, it is indeed packed! But will focus on the main cast…

Lee Bo Young – another cute but tough role. Like her real-life husband, she delivers well in this kind of role. Although the role of Shin Young Joo was an impossible all-rounder, she made her way from being a tough policewoman to a smart secretary and back to being a police officer all with grace.

Lee Sang Yoon – always has this worried facial expression that leaves his forehead wrinkled a lot. Well it fits well with his character in this drama, a young judge who has a bag of trouble to save his own career. And omo, how can I not mention he looks soo great in suit! So tall and handsome!

Kwon Yool – he nailed it here, bravo! The best actor in this drama hands down. He really proves here he’s more than just a pretty and cute face. I will always remember the very confident Kang Jung Il… his voice, his diction, his super smart moves, but above all his weakness to that one girl he loves.

Park Se Young – ah she was great too! The role of Choi Soo Yun, that girl who brought Kang Jung Il down, was a sure challenge. For once she had to be beautiful, powerful, smart and sneaky. Well done girl!

The best love team, I have to be honest was Kang Jung Il and Choi Soo Yun. Their love was like Romeo and Juliet! It was so tragic! Painfully good! They had to give up each other to save oneself. Choi Soo Yun got him in the end when he allowed himself to waver. Poor Jung Il, he could have ended as the overall winner, Taebaek and all.

Special mention to Taebaek’s founders Choi Il Hwan and Kang Yu Taek, the mighty and powerful! Acting by these two was just superb!

Honestly, it took me a while to realize why it’s called Whisper. If you observe, they always whisper to one another everytime one wants to bring the other one down. It was like whisking a summary of the great plan to the other person without telling the latter the detail. That becomes the torture and makes the latter filled with anxiety.

The music is so good and powerful. Always fitted the setting: Whisper OST

That moment when Shin Young Joo was reinstated as a police officer and that moment when Lee Dong Joon entered the CEO office as the CEO of Taebaek. The moments when we see light at the end of the tunnel. Yay, winning!

And that moment when our lady police officer finally handcuffed our Lee Dong Jun! Of course there’s gonna be a kiss! There was a kiss!

The final Finale ending, lol! but I loved it, even just the sound of it! Here, we have a closure for everything  – how everyone got sentenced to prison (of course this is a lawyer drama after all). All good! But wait, who was that super gorgeous lady prosecutor?! (Got distracted there for a bit 🙂 ).

Dislikes: It got draggy a bit in a few earlier episodes and yes 2 kissing scenes? The first one wasn’t even real.

My Rating: 8.5 stars! (10 as highest)

Summary: Do Bong Soon possesses super power that is only passed down the women in her family. She has the strength to stop moving vehicles or move heavy obstacles, can crush and bend anything with her bare hands, can fight strong and trained gangsters but  doesn’t have the ability to control her powers until she meets Ainsoft CEO, Ahn Min Hyuk. With her desire to work as a game developer at Ainsoft, she takes the offer to be the bodyguard of the CEO.

Genre: Romantic Comedy, Fantasy, Thriller
Episodes: 16
Stars: Park Bo Young as Do Bong Soon
Park Hyung Sik as Ahn Min Hyuk
Ji Soo as Gook Doo

Likes: What can I say… I like everything in this drama! It’s super fun to watch when the…

  • Story is a cute romantic comedy but mixed with some crime-solving mystery. A romantic comedy with Park Hyun Sik is most-awaited but adding a well-thought crime story on the side adds icing on the already-delicious cake!
  • Leading man is Park Hyung Sik! I’ve been waiting for him to get the top lead. He’s super charming! And with his previous top performances like in Hwarang, he’d become one of the new anticipated leading men in kdrama. I think the CEO role, Ahn Min Hyuk secured him a place in our heart (at least he’s in mine). I loved his character here, and of course his swagger!
  • Leading lady is super cute but not annoying. First time to watch Park Bo Young and I’m loving her! She’s not just cute, she also knows her craft. Do Bong Soon role suits this lady pretty well!
  • Chemistry is over the top! Oh my gosh, I was giggling all the time. Our 2 lovebirds were just fun to watch! The sparks were everywhere! I totally love the first kiss on the beach. I thought it would turn out cheesy but it really wasn’t. The piano kiss was also daebak! How about the almost-kiss at Do Bong Soon’s room which got interrupted by her brother, that was super funny! And last but not the least, the wedding kiss!
  • Supporting lead is such a waste (in a good way)! Gook Doo oh Gook Doo, why oh why?! Oh well, I bet I’ll see him as lead next.
  • Thugs and colleagues are super funny! I just couldn’t stop laughing at everything. Where do I start… the gangster boss who always tried to look bossy but drank the poo wine or one of his subordinates who first got beaten up by Bong Soon, then got beaten up by Gook Do then got beaten up again losing his teeth and breaking most parts of the body. How about the office with the always awkward secretary Gong but I think nothing beats Dong-Pyung, he was the best!
  • Dong-Pyung kills it! Yes he did and for that I have to give the best actor award in this drama to this guy (which real actor name, I don’t know haha). And he even did 2 roles, the other one is the “beaten-up thug”. He did awesome!
  • Villain is super handsome! Yes he is and he can even pass as a model with that physique and well-chiseled face but well, he opted to be an actor, a villain to our super Bong Soon. Surely, everyone will remember him.
  • Catching the dangerous villain becomes super fun! I love Do Bong Soon and the boys’ plan in catching the elusive Kim Jang Hyun. With police Gook Do chasing him through ship containers and Min Hyuk following him with a flying drone, and of course Bong Soon moving heavy containers to trap him. Finally, checkmate!
  • Pink hoodie becomes a sign of super strength! I bet, I bet… super fans will be wearing the pink hoodie. Love how it represented our petite but strong woman, Do Bong Soon!
  • Strong Woman, Do Bong Soon loves Jo In Sung! I so love her for loving my beloved Jo In Sung! It’s funny how she sets her screensaver to Jo In Sung  and Min Hyuk would change it to his own photo :). Jealousy so cute!
  • OST is as upbeat as the drama! I’m gonna miss Super Power Girl!
  • Bonus scenes are cute, funny and over the top! I’ve got to give it to the Romeo and Juliet scene. Lomeo oh Lomeo! Lol!
  • Cameos are super funny! Yoon Sang Hyun as Charles Go was I think the best!
  • Ending is all what we wanted! What can be better to a proposal under the cherry blossoms but then we still get to see the wedding and when you thought it’s over, here still comes the babies!

Dislikes: I can’t think of any right now. I’m still enjoying it!

My Rating: 8.5 stars! (10 as highest)

Summary: Born in the present time as Shim Chung and Heo Joon Jae, this couple who had an ill-fated love in the past meet again and are destined to fall in love again. Since Sim Chung is a mermaid and has a limited time on land, she has to capture Heo Joon Jae’s heart so she could be loved by him in return and will make her stay on land possible. The couple is facing a possibility to  repeat all things in the past including their sad end but will a happy ending possible this time?

Genre: Romantic Comedy, Fantasy
Episodes: 20
Stars: Jun Ji Hyun as Shim Chung
Lee Min Ho as Heo Joon Jae
Lee Hee Joon as Jo Nam Doo
Shin Won Ho as Tae Oh
Lee Ji Hoon as Heo Cha Hyun
Shin Hye Sun as Cha Shi Ah

Likes: This is another great fantasy drama to love this year! A mermaid falling in love with a human is sure will capture everyone’s attention but adding a parallel story which happened during the Joseon era which is slowly giving answers, unraveling the mystery of the present time adds to the mystic of the whole show. It’s simply a beautiful, quite well-done story-telling!

We’ve got two of the most sought actors in Korea doing the show so this makes its anticipation quite high. But how did they do? Quite well, I would say. Lee Min Ho and Jun Ji Hyun’s chemistry was just over the top! The two were relaxed and comfortable with each other. And both are extremely good-looking!

Lee Min Ho – though his English pronunciation is still the same, his Joseon accent has improved a lot. Gorgeous in whatever he wears in this drama, he had the chance to showcase his huge wardrobe. Of course, he looked prim and proper in his Joseon outfit but his fashionable outfits in the presents days were outrageous, he looked every inch a model! He’s obviously younger than the leading lady but he successfully able to develop that strong chemistry with her.

Jun Ji Hyun – she’s intimidatingly beautiful and fashionable! Very natural in acting as if she’s just acting herself. She’s quite funny as well but what impressed me more were her underwater scenes. Very graceful and comfortable in water. She might have used a double with the mermaid outfit but did obviously some water scenes. Impressive!

The breathtaking worlds we have in this drama…

The Joseon period – beautiful mountain and coastal sceneries but my most favorite is when they released the lanterns. It looks so romantic!

The underwater world of Sim Chung the mermaid – colourful corals and caves, the water world is just wonderful!

The Spanish charming towns – the first few episodes were shot in Spain showcasting the beauty of the place. Scenic coastal views, beaches, beautiful town architecture add to the romantic feel of the show.

The present Seoul – shot in winter season, a very cold Seoul becomes the place of our lovebirds. Namsan tower, skiing place, even the beach side is full of snow. Brrr, cold but ramained romantic, thanks to our hot couple!

The outfits! Everyone is very fashionable. Well-chosen outfits for every character. Lee Min Ho was very fashionable here especially that he had to change into several outfits due the nature of his job. But I was always looking forward to what Jun Ji Hyun was wearing. This lady can wear everything and will still look great!

The kiss scenes! All of them are good. I took note of them all and surprisingly always labeled it the first kiss. It’s how good every kiss was! But boy, that one french kiss that says all… so passionate, so sexy and so sad as it was saying goodbye. Never seen Lee Min Ho kissed like that.

Most funny scenes! I was mostly entertained by these two…

  • Hae Joon Jae hearing whatever Sim Chung was thinking.
  • Shi Ah thinking Tae Oh really is in love with her.

A family of villains! And they were great villains. Transcending their villainous fate from the Joseon period to the present day Seoul.

Happy ending. I’m glad Shi Ah had her happy ending after desperately chasing Hae Joon Jae for years. The notorious family of villain was brought to justice. Joon Jae finally reunited with his mum. And lastly, after 3 years, Sim Chung coming back healthy to her Joon Jae after recuperating under the sea.

Dislikes: It has uncanny similarity to Goblin. Too bad Goblin ended first so that kind of spoiled the ending for me.

My Rating: 8.5 stars! (10 as highest)

yong pal kdramaSummary: To pay back his credit, Kim Tae Hyun, a resident surgeon at Han Shin hospital does house calls for injured gangsters which earned him the name Yong Pal. With the intention to get a secure position in the hospital, he gets himself involved in a big secret on the 12th floor which houses the sleeping chaebol heiress beauty, Han Yeo Jin.

Genre: Medical, Action, Romance
Episodes: 18
Stars: Joo Won as Kim Tae Hyun
Kim Tae Hee as Han Yeo Jin
Jo Hyun Jae as Han Do Joon
Chae Jung Ahn as Lee Chae Young

Likes:  It’s a terrific story and I love the fact that Joo Won took the lead. With his experience as a genius surgeon before, it was easy to associate him with another medical drama. Young, ambitous, talented and risk-taker Kim Tae Hyun is a character to fall in love with. That even the most beautiful sleeping princess would sleep no more :).

Talking of “the most beautiful”, I think this drama has the most beautiful leading lady I’ve ever seen (since it’s my first Kim Tae Hee drama ever, haha!). She really looks like a doll! How can one be so beautiful  even in their sleep! Angel-like in her long hair and fierce with a short hair. Just too perfect!

I love the music that’s being played everytime someone has to make a great entrance… It makes everyone looks so great and powerful and cool and good-looking and huge…. even on their burial.

Han Yeo Jin’s house is magnificient! It looks familiar though because it’s the same house in the “The Heirs”. In this drama, they put more details in the interior.

The sleeping beauty lab is a work of art! This has to come up very impressive as it would be the home of the most beautiful, rich, (powerful if awake) chaebol heiress.

I love Cynthia, the supermodel! Her presence was something. She would have overshadowed Han Yeo Jin’s character if she was there all the time :). It was a short role but glad to see her again in the last episode.

Some comical relief… how about our gangster support? Love them! Our gangster boss specially gave the whole drama a lighter mood.

Poor Han Do Joon but at least wifey had a change of heart for him.

Romantic windy hill scenes! And I got 2 of them.

How could you resist a million-dollar proposal from your very beautiful girlfriend? From an heiress to surgeon boyfriend… marry me, be my only heir and legal guardian… ahm of course  YES!

And I just love the ending. Teasing! I thought they would pull a nasty one, almost got me fooled. But it turned out to be awesome! With the come back of Cynthia and a young company, they pulled a very Yong Pal ending! Love, love, love!

Dislikes: Just some logic holes here… why would you hire that sly secretary who was with the enemy all along and put all your trust in him. It was just so annoying  watching him almost winning in the end.

My Rating: 8.5 stars! (10 as highest)

With the help of the ruling royals and unfortunately with the woman he loves, he’ll take the battle that will end it all.

Stars: Lee Joon Ki as Kim Sung Yeol
Lee Yoo Bi as Jo Yang Sun
Shim Chang Min as Crown Prince Lee Yun
Kim So Eun as Choi Hye Ryung / Lee Myung Hee
Lee Soo Hyuk as Vampire Gwi
Jang Hee Jin as Soo Hyang

Likes: Vampire Overall Looks: These drama has the prettiest vampires I’ve ever seen! Kim Sung Yeol and Gwi turned Joseon into a runway. Who’s the fairest of these two? I’m always a fan of LJK (Kim Sung Yeol). Omo, omo, those looks could melt a million chocolate ladies, lol! Those eyes and his perfectly crafted face topped with a superb talent in martial arts. He’s a winner! Gwi (Lee Soo hyuk) is not lagging behind. Oh those curly long locks, sophisticated nose and a tall lean figure. Gwi’s gracefulness and power could always win the ladies.

The Voice:  It’s not that Kim Sung Yeol failed in this department. His voice was actually really sexy in this drama but I think Gwi won this part hands down. Gwi’s voice was absolutely shiver-worthy!

Best Dressed: I totally loved Kim Sung Yeol’s Hanboks especially the one with the flowers. Just sooo beautiful! But Gwi’s outfits were gorgeous as well. Long and flowing and dark! Suits his character very well.

The Characters: I just loved both! Kim Sung Yeol’s charm is his good-nature, his love, belief and loyalty. Gwi on the other hand is the power, strength and in the end his weakness.

The cast is well chosen. It’s good to see ChangMin here. Lee Yoo Bi though super cute didn’t really disappoint as the leading lady of LJK. Kim So Eun has improved a lot and Jang Hee Jin was just so pretty.

I love the OST. There’s a song that I particularly like and it was always played in the beginning when the leads were just falling in love. Then later on, played again shortly in the epilogue.

Vampire fights were awesome! Very well choreographed.

Kim Sung Yeol’s library was lovely! I could imagine the smell of all the books in there. It was very well thought. This is just one example of the production’s effort on details in this drama.

Though the chemistry between the leads wasn’t top, the first kiss was heart-stopping!

And that hair of Kim Sung Yeol’s bad vampire concience.

Dislikes: Argh that secret plan (recipe) wasn’t that clear! After a long time looking for it, they only got information on ingredients without the proper instruction. Hm, quite useless.

Crown Prince mum who was staying in the monastery was too made up haha! Sorry couldn’t help.

The ending wasn’t explained properly.  I just don’t understand why Kim Sung Yeol disappeared after defeating Gwi? And they pulled a Faith-like ending without much sense! Hello the tree!

producer kdramaSummary: Baek Seung Chan is a rookie producer in KBS. He’s learning his way how to be a successful producer but assigned in a team which is doing a long time show but not just raking the desired ratings anymore. He made friends with his seniors and became the interest of a famous pop star Cindy.

Genre: Romantic Comedy
Episodes: 12
Stars: Cha Tae Hyun as Ra Joon Mo
Kim Soo Hyun as Baek Seung Chan
Gong Hyo Jin as Tak Ye Ji
IU as Cindy

Likes:   It’s educational! Suddenly I’ve learned about what producers of a show are really doing behind the scenes. And of course not to forget all those people under him. The never ending politics and business behind every show. Are we making money? How’s the rating? How’s the censorship? Do we have a teaser to impress? Do we have interesting people in the show? Have we edited it well? Or captioned correctly? Hm, definitely, a learning experience.

But what I like more is the comparison of a production of a show to stories of each characters. Pay attention to the title of every episode.

The cast is awesome! Just looking at who’s in the show makes you think right away, this is gonna be big. We’ve got Kim Soo Hyun, Gong Hyo Jin, IU and Cha Tae Hyun! Let’s talk about each one…

Kim Soo Hyun – I always anticipate his next drama. He’s a great a actor and watching him here taking a different role only shows he’s not stereotyped to be just the handsome, rich, prowerful guy. He did pretty well!

Gong Hyo Jin – she’s always Gong Hyo Jin. It’s either you like her or not and I happen to like her a lot. She’s a pro, she’s very natural, no sign of intimidation.

IU – oh wow, she’s pretty as a doll here and I like her role as a bitchy and complicated popstar. And her voice, even when she’s only talking, is very sexy. Wait until you hear her sing.

Cha Tae Hyun – first time seeing him in a drama. He’s actually very charming!

If you pay close attention, plenty of cameos from well-known celebrities. Let me enumerate who I remembered most… Jang Hyuk, Lee Seung Ki, Sandara Park, Go Ah Ra and Seo Hyun!

The show was quite funny. Love the sexy Kim Da Jung, the HR lady and that mascular guy, Cindy’s manager and lots more.

One good thing about unrequited love… I love how Tak Ye Ji  would look at Ra Joon Mo, Beak Seung Chan would look at Tak Ye Ji and how Cindy would look at Baek Seung Chan!

I love the ending. It was very promising that my preferred pairs would end up with each other. So I’m happy :).

Dislikes: It was just 12 episodes but each one lasted for almost 2 hours. Too long for an episode. What’s wrong with coming up with an hour-episode and in return come up with a higher number of episodes.

There were just too much talking in the beginning that I first doubted it would be a good drama.

It was hard to watch Kim Soo Hyun getting rejected. Not so used to that!

hwajung kdramaSummary: It’s a story of how Princess JungMyung, daughter of King Seonjo survived and lived through the reigns of 3 kings; King Gwanghae, King Injo and King Hyojong during her lifetime. With her powerful influence she managed to defeat strong political enemies like Lee Yi Chum, Kim Ja Jeom and Kang Joo Sun.

Genre: Period, Political, Romance
Episodes: 50
Stars: Cha Seung Won as Prince Gwanghae
Lee Yeon Hee as Princess Jungmyung
Kim Jae Won as King Injo
Seo Kang Joon as Hong Joo Won
Han Joo Wan as Kang In Woo
Jo Sung Ha as Kang Joo Sun
Jung Woong In as Lee Yi Chum
Jo Min Ki as Kim Ja Jeom

Likes: During the whole tenure of the drama, I’ve been going back and forth wikipedia and some other sites and blogs related to the historical background of the drama and I say they come very close to some historical facts and the existence of important characters throughout the drama.

Princess Jungmyung – though she really existed during the time, her fierce character as what was portrayed in the drama didn’t probably hold the truth. But as the ominous princess in the drama, she shone through an entire generation that spanned through reigns 3 kings. Her power and  influence that shake the most powerful political enemies and even kings themselves put her in a position that no female royalty could probably attain during that era. Her love story with then husband Hong Joo Won is a lovely kdrama touch in this serious splendid political drama.

Gwanghae vs King Injo – I’m all for Gwanghae. Though not even given the King title but he was definitely more reasonable than his successor.  He was always willing to sacrifice (specially his pride) all for the sake of his country and people’s safely. During his reign he achieved a lot and manage to avoid possible wars. King Injo on the other hand was portrayed in this drama as lacking, insecure and even cowardly.
Actors Cha Seung Won and Kim Jae Won are both superb choices for the roles.

Most powerful political enemies…

Kang Joo Sun – he’s got to be on top of this list for he was already active even Gwanghae’s time. Powerful and wealthy, former mayor and palace official, he controlled the businesses in Joseon. He had connections to Ming and later Qing. Owned several houses with private armies. This guy was definitely deadly!

Kim Ja Jeom – a master of manipulation. He made King Injo his puppet. Basically ruling the country during King Injo’s reign. He worked hand in hand with Jo Yeo Jung (Consort Jo) , definitely a deadly tandem!

Consort Jo – Joseon’s deadliest lady. Rumored to have poisoned crown prince Sohyeon, son of King Injo and the heir to the throne. A favorite of the King and Kim Ja Jeom behind her back, she could do whatever she wanted.

Lee Yi Chum – his greed for wealth and  political power lead him to do the deadliest acts. He was behind the murder of crown prince Yeongchang.

Kim Kae Shi – her words are valued by Gwanghae. She does everything, poison here and there just to keep her precious Gwanghae on the throne. She was the ears and eyes of the palace. She just knew everything!

This drama has lots of heavy crying moments. Not that I like crying but they were so well-acted and convincing, you get to appreciate the whole sad scenario.

Dramatic exits, lots of them too but the most memorable was King Injo’s. I thought he already died (death bed scene already shown) but next scene he still managed to scold his officials and officially declare Hyojong the next King!

Favorite quote: “Once you sit here, you will also suffocate from its weight.” King Injo to his son King Hyojong.

Ending is a justification why King Hyojong had a hard time ruling.  Always staying close to historical facts.

Dislikes: The last 2 episodes were weak.  It  lost its momentum though the ending was okay.

Dirturbing lighting. So disappointed with this. There were indoor scenes that appeared like a 50’s movie with too much lighting directly on the faces. Just poor.

They casted someone who looks like she had too much botox on the face. That doesn’t match Joseon era.

After 10 years…. then, after 8 years… the men just grew beared but didn’t get wrinkled. Our princess still looked the same 18 years later!

My Rating: 8.5 stars! (10 as highest)

Heard-It-Through-the-Grapevine kdramaSummary: Seo Beom, a bright, young student from a poor family got impregnated by her equally young boyfriend Han In Sang whose background she didn’t even know. She planned on raising the child alone until Han In Sang found out and right away wanted to take the responsibility. Seo Beom found herself suddenly introduced to a very powerful and rich family, very different from her own.

Genre: Family, Romance, Black Comedy
Episodes: 30
Stars: Yoo Joon Sang as Han Jung Ho
Yoo Ho Jung as Choi Yun Hee
Lee Joon as Han In Sang
Go Ah Sung as Seo Bom

Likes: It’s a very well-written script. What’s really impressive is to come up with something almost surreal but at the same time has that realistic feel. Anyone can easily imagine or even relate to the situation, that’s how realistic it was.

They paid so much attention to details. The houses of both families… This is how rich this family is and this is how the other family is struggling. The houses have characters that match those families living in them. It’s that kind of detail. And not to mention the wardrobe, if you pay attention to these, it can’t be missed.

I love the atmosphere. Almost silent. Not much music in the background. It makes the conversations more realistic, as if you’re just observing people talking.

I’ve got to give credit to the director and / or the producers for making everyone look like very good actors. Everyone came out very natural!

And talking about actors, Yoo Joon Sang along with Yoo Ho Jung are just great. I think they totally nailed their characters. I liked seeing Lee Joon once again. He was cute and adorable in this drama. Go Ah Sung is one of those promising young actresses, she was great! Love to see her again in another drama.

The rest of the actors and their characters were all awesome. Everyone was noteworthy!

The politics in this drama is awesome! I thought I would only see that in Sageuks. Oh lots of manipulations, all those thread pullings were so entertaining.

And of course it was funny! It’s a black comedy afterall. Every episode has always its funny moment and always accompanied by that funny music. You’ll know what I mean when you watch it :).

Dislikes: The consistency of keeping it simple left me wanting more on the ending. I know it started like that, it went on for 30 episodes like that but I was waiting for a bomb ending. Oh well I can’t have everything, can I?

My Rating: 8.5 stars! (10 as highest)

the three musketeers kdramaSummary: Park Dal Hyang wished to be of serviced to the king so he worked hard to pass the exam in the capital. While in the capital, he met a group of noble-looking men who called themselves The Three Muskeeters. The leader of the group was actually the crown prince who Park Dal Hyang would later have a clash with but then after knowing the prince’s true intent, he would dedicate his service to him.

Genre: Period, Action, Romance, Political
Episodes: 12
Stars: Jung Yong Hwa as Park Dal Hyang
Lee Jin Wook as Crown Prince So Hyun
Yang Dong Geun as Heo Seung Po
Jung Hae In as Ahn Min Seo

Likes: The whole drama was short but good. Advantage of a short drama, it eliminates those unnecessary scenes that makes it draggy. Concise but to the point without eliminating the thrill.

Talking about thrills, the cliffhangers are really well done! Make you watch the next episode as soon as possible.

I was looking forward to another Jung Yong Hwa performance. He’s not yet that great but always working on it. Someone to watch out for. Still having a handsome face but in this drama my eyes were always glued on the prince lol!

The prince and the princess falling in love! I was so hooked on those episodes. I didn’t want them to end!

The fighting scenes are really good! Lots of Dal Hyang fighting moments but my favorites are Dal Hyang vs the Prince, Dal Hyang vs Yong Gol Dae

Season 1 ended so well and gave us a big cliffhanger. I can’t wait for season 2! I hope it’s as good or even better.

Dislikes: I was hoping it was truly the end of Mi Ryung but she seemed alive and kicking and ready for season 2.

Didn’t like Dal Hyang not finding a girl. I guess it was hard to top his first love but hoping he will have in season 2!

My Rating: 8.5 stars! (10 as highest)

you're all surrounded kdramaSummary: Four newly hired young detectives at Gangnam Police Station are making waves with solving difficult and exciting
cases. They’re under a very hard-working team leader who’s grooming them to be great detectives.

Genre: Action, Romantic Comedy
Episodes: 20
Stars: Lee Seung Ki as Eun Dae Gu
Cha Seung Won as Seo Pan Suk
Go Ah Ra as Yeo Soo Sun
Ahn Jae Hyun as Park Tae Il
Park Jung Min as Ji Gook

Likes: The script – It’s a well-written one. You might have heard of the story several times but how it was told is the secret why this drama is sooo good. It’s packed with some interesting story twists which always comes as great surprises. Also I like the way each character and scene were justified and explained through random flashbacks. Made me always comment, ah that’s why. Definitely well done!

The actors – great cast though I was after Cha Seung Won who always doesn’t disappoint me with his sexiness, looks and natural acting; the others were also worth the mention. Lee Seung Ki – it always takes me a while to like him but in the end, I always do. Go Ah Ra – she definitely nails the character. Park Jung Min – cute and funny. Ahn Jae Hyun – I thought I would see him soon after Man from the Stars. Such a pretty face!

The director – The credit for the snappiness of this drama goes to the person who tells everyone what to do. Even if you have a great cast but if the directing is bad and makes the acting awkward, the drama comes out sloppy. Lee Seung Ki and Cha Seung Won are important enough to be under a wing of a good director.

I love the 2 main couples. Very well matched! Dae Gu and Soo Sun – cute, young, unpredictable love! Pan Suk and Sa Kyung – both sexy, divorced couple who are finding love again. With all the serious cases they have to solve, these characters will still definitely make you giddy.

Funny! There was always something funny. May it be the awkwardness between lovers and colleagues or the way Cha Seung Won laughs.

Notable villain. Gosh she was sooo annoying!

Other side stories that kept the drama interesting. These stories were also very well integrated.

Favorite scene: the funeral of the lady chief when everyone was wearing their uniforms. Cha Seung Won definitely stood out!!!

Just love the ending! Everything was good. Our legendary team leader still true to his profession even in the countryside :).

Dislikes: I just thought the way they caught the mastermind was silly. For someone who masterminded a perfect crime could fall for a simple confession in the end. Oh well, maybe it was really his time. He was getting annoying anyway.

good doctor kdramaSummary: Park Si On who has autism made it as practice surgeon in one of the best hospital in Korea. He had 6 months to prove he’s capable of being a good doctor.

Genre: Medical, Romance, Melodrama, Family
Episodes: 20
Stars: Joo Won as Park Shi On
Moon Chae Won as Cha Yoon Seo
Joo Sang Wook as Kim Do Han
Kim Min Seo as Yoo Chae Kyung

Likes: It’s a new genre for me in kdrama world but since I used to watch Grey’s Anatomy before so I kind of expected similar dramatic and thrilling stories every episode. Yes I was right and these ones were also packed with great stories!

Very well chosen cast! Everyone was natural in their acting!
-Joo Won has improved a lot since Bridal Mask. Excellent portraying of an autistic character!
-Moon Chae Won is a natural. The strong, brilliant Cha Yoon Seo  fits her well!
-Joo Sang Wook is sooo handsome! And his character makes him more handsome!!!
-Kim Min Seo is always consistent with her roles. Her character as Chae Kyung has great chemistry with Kim Do Han.

I like how the main characters developed slowly throughout the drama. Park Si On’s character development was remarkable. I also like the Chief of Pediatric who in the beginning was irritating but he turned out being likeable in the end.

My favorite patients were the puppy girl and In Hye. These 2 girls were great in acting and I love their stories and the ending.

Love couples in the hospital! I love the head and chubby nurse, they were funny – a comical relief in a serious hospital drama.

The ending was good and realistic. I love Park Si On’s speech after being accepted in the hospital as a full-pledged doctor with the closing “Thank you for loving me”. So touching!

And the epilogue! It was funny having Park Ki Woong (cameo) there. Oh I’m pretty sure they didn’t make fun of Bridal Mask ;).

Dislikes: Though the drama was packed with good stories, characters and actors, it’s still a melodrama. Lots of crying. I can’t stand watching 2 episodes in a row! Took me almost a month to finish it!

Too much shouting! I’m just wondering if it’s really like that in Korea. Seniors shouting at their juniors even in a hospital environment.

My Rating: 8.5 stars! (10 as highest)

Sung Joon as GonYi
Choi Jin Hyuk as Gu Wol Ryung
Yoon Se Ah as Ja Hong Myung
Lee Yeon Hee as Yoon Seo Hwa

Likes: Great story! Never one boring episode for me and I’m talking about all 24!

I always like period drama especially good ones and Gu Family Book belongs to that category. The story is rich!

Great cast! Plenty of really good actors here. I specially love the villain, Lee Sung Jae. I mean hands down, he was just great! Another one of my favorite is Choi Jin Hyuk aka Wol Ryung, father of KangChi. He was hot especially when he turned evil! Hm, I seem to like the bad ones :).

The dialogues were just sooo good especially between the Admiral and Lord Bi Jo! These 2 were always fun to watch.

I like the love story of Kang Chi and Yeo Wool but I think I was truly moved by the bittersweet love story of Kang Chi’s parents! Tragically good!

I’m happy to see Lee Seung Ki paired with someone younger. Finally!

Dislikes: Not sure of Bae Suzy. Somehow her acting wasn’t too period. Was it the accent?

The epilogue, hm. I like how it ended but somehow it was rushed. I was so spoiled with how they put details on the period scenes.

Both leads did a good job protraying 2 different characters!
Great chemistry!
Kissing scenes are heart-stopping especially the fountain!
Wedding scene!
It makes me love rain!

Dislikes: Towards the end, the script kept on insisting to separate the 2 young leads that gives an impression of just stretching the whole show up to 20 episodes if it could have been finished with less. Just my impression.
