Preview: Cha Yo Han, a talented anesthesiologist serves 3 years in prison for administering euthanasia on one of his patients. He then meets Kang Shi Young, a year 2 resident of a famous hospital, at the prison where Cha Yo Han was serving and where Kang Shi Young is working as the prison doctor. Later, outside prison, they cross paths again at the hospital they are both working at.
Summary: Hye Jung, a girl with a tough character meets her Mr. Right who happens to be her highschool teacher. After the death of her grandmother who was everything to her, she took the more challenging path and became a neurological surgeon which then lead her the way to reunite with her highschool teacher who is after leaving his teaching profession went back to being a doctor.
Genre: Medical, Romance
Stars: Kim Rae Won as Hong Ji Hong
Park Shin Hye as Yoo Hye Jung
Yoon Kyun Sang as Jung Yoon Do
Lee Sung Kyung as Jin Seo Woo
Likes: A more mature role for Park Shin Hye. It’s great to see her grow up with her character here as Hye Jung. Though the drama started when Hye Jung was still in highschool, she was already ahead of her classmates when it comes to maturity. Hye Jung’s painful family experience made her the tough girl she already was. When she became a surgeon, her career-lady character came out but managed to remain tough. In short, Hye Jung’s character development was very well architected throughout the drama; from the young, troubled teen to a surgeon and to someone who would equal the maturity of Ji Hong, the highschool teacher she fell in love with. Park Shin Hye’s performance was impressive! I always see her as cute, teeny actress but in this drama, she became a different person. Her outfits as well were very well chosen to suit her character. Well done!
Ji Hong, the love interest of Hye Jung. He was very charming. Older but charming. Obviously there is this undeniable attraction to older men especially when they show independence, intellect and responsibility. I understand Hye Jung for falling for him. Kim Rae Won (the actor), though not the most handsome was very well suited to play the character.
The chemistry between the leads was undeniably great. Take note there were only a handful kissing scenes throughout the drama but each time these two kissed, it gave me goosebumps. Sparks, sparks everywhere!
Impressive action scene in the beginning when Hye Jung had to fight some goons in the hospital. I doubt there is really a surgeon like that but well, the scene was quite entertaining. She even had to kick asses in highheels!
I love that reunion scene when finally Ji Hong is coming back to Korea and Hye Jung is already a surgeon. He arrived in an emergency helicopter while Hye Jung was waiting at the rooftop of the hospital. While being stunned for seeing him after a long time, he asked her… “Are you married? Do you have a boyfriend? … Then we’re set. ” I feel the stuttering answers of our girl! Whoah!
There were 20 episodes and if it was just really about these two lovebirds it would have been so boring. Luckily there were really great side stories. We have the unrequited love of Yoon Do, the developing romance of Seo Woo, Hye Jung’s family drama, Ji Hong’s dad and some elaborated hospital cases. Hospital dramas like…
- the heartbreaking case of a father with 2 sick kids who both needed surgery. (cameo: Nam Goong Min)
- our practicing Kang Soo who was experiencing blackouts which was caused by a tumor in the head
- the mother in coma who bore the baby until the baby is old enough to survive outside the womb. Bittersweet!
- Presidents Jin’s nerve-racking spinal surgery
A well-balanced ending. Neither so cold nor cheesy. Neither so sad nor happy. But had a good amount of suspense with a proper closure to everything. Our girl Hye Jung got the apology, the “thank you” and the love that she deserved.
Dislikes: Are they really wearing highheels in the hospitals??? This disturbed me somehow.
After that exciting lead character reunion, it got a bit boring but I advise you to just hold on to it if you wanna see a great ending.
Summary: Capt Yoo Shi Jin, a member of the Korean special force met the very pretty and talented surgeon Kang Mo Yun at the hospital where the latter was working. Trying to have a date with a soldier was almost impossible but their fate to be together got sealed when both were assigned in a far away, post-war country called Urk. Meanwhile the captain’s close comrade Sgt. Seo is having a complicated relationship with their commander’s daughter, Yoon Myung Joo.
Genre: Melodrama, Romance, Medical
Stars: Song Joong Ki as Capt. Yoo Shi Jin
Song Hye Kyo as Prof. Kang Mo Yun
Jin Goo as Senior Seo Dae Young
Kim Ji Won as Surgeon Yoon Myung Joo
Likes: Okay, where do I begin?! Let’s start with our leads… all 4 pretty and handsome leads!
Song Joong Ki – this is definitely his most popular role, hallyu-star worthy! He was well-toned, pretty as usual, playful and teasing and most of all, top-looking in uniform. You add the shades and the snubbish attitude, he definitely rocked in this drama!
Song Hye Kyo – very pretty but tough and smart. This lady has got what it takes to be the girlfriend of the Alpha company’s Big Boss! Even with her pretty face, she survived an earthquake and saved many in a not-so-friendly place.
Jin Goo – new face that left a big impression. The very charismatic Sgt Seo who has a complicated relationship with the general’s daughter (Take note of the last words. That can be pretty tough in the military). Great-looking in uniform, perfect complexion, serious face – almost like a soldier.
Kim Ji Won – another pretty leading lady. The general’s daughter. Sgt Seo object of affection. A uniformed surgeon. I can’t blame Sgt Seo for falling in love with her.
We have 2 teams, Shi Jin – Mo Yun team and Dae Young – Myung Joo team! So which team are you?!
Shi Jin & Mo Yun team – these 2 started unsure. They couldn’t make it to their dates due to Shi Jin’s military duty. In fact Mo Yun got stood up twice (which wasn’t actually too bad, it just made Shi Jin more attractive). But when they started going out, it involved beautiful sceneries and even dangerous minefields :). I would rate the couple’s chemistry 8 out of 10. They’re kissing scenes were always beautiful (with beautiful backdrops). My favorite was the last one of course when they were back at the shipwreck. Most dramatic moment was when Mo Yun found Shi Jin, covered in blood in an ambulance.
Dae Young & Myung Joo – hm complicated relationship. Her dad not in favor and that was a big problem but it made the two more inseparable. Friendship history as Myung Joo helped Dae Young at his ex’s wedding. Both are in uniforms which is favorable as both understand each other’s jobs well. Couple’s chemistry is 9 out of 10, a win for this couple. Their kissing scenes were always touching and dramatic (made me cry). Most dramatic moment was when Myung Joo was found to be positive with a virus and Dae Young rushed to hug her.
I have to mention how truly beautiful the sceneries were. Urk is a made-up place and it was in Greece where they shot most of the scenes. I would recommend to visit Greece as I’ve seen the place myself. Beautiful blue sky and water with fantastic lanscapes!
The most famous greeting in the military world that’s probably taking the civilian world by storm: Dankyeol! (which means unity or solidarity) It sounds very sexy now thanks to this drama :).
The OST is amazing! These are my favorites songs from the drama… enjoy!
You are my Everything by Gummy
Everytime by Chen (EXO) featuring Xpunch
Always by Yoon Mi Rae
Once Again by Mad Clown featuring Kim Na Young
Talk Love by K.Will
Great slow motion scenes like when the hospital team arrived in Urk and the Capt (who was really looking great in uniform plus sunglasses) and company showed up but Capt snubbed Mo Yun big time. Ouch!
Funniest moment is I think Yo Shi Jin who was thought to be a ghost by the lady doctor’s colleagues.
Heartbreaking moment – those goodbye letters were so cruel. Sob sob sob! Mo Yun got one and too bad she read it. Lucky for Myung Joo who insisted not to open hers.
Most patriotic moment – the flag retreat scene!
Great villain and hero awards go to Argus and our north korean warrior. Dankyeol!
Cameo by Lee Kwang Soo, Yoo Ah In and Red Velvet. At least these the famous personalities I know.
Call signs!!! Which one is your favorite? Piccolo, Snoopy, Yellow Tiger, Wolf, Big Boss or Beauty?
Even with 16 episodes only, they were somewhat running out of good stories and the mood was getting quite serious so it was really great that they could pull off a funny last episode. It made the soldiers happy and I think it made everyone happy too! And of course, we got our Red Velvet performance in the end.
Dislikes: They should say everything in Korean. It sounds cooler than Song Joong Ki trying to sound cool in English. It’s painful everytime that I always have to close my eyes.
Kang Mo Yun nags a lot. It was becoming a turn off.
Summary: To pay back his credit, Kim Tae Hyun, a resident surgeon at Han Shin hospital does house calls for injured gangsters which earned him the name Yong Pal. With the intention to get a secure position in the hospital, he gets himself involved in a big secret on the 12th floor which houses the sleeping chaebol heiress beauty, Han Yeo Jin.
Genre: Medical, Action, Romance
Stars: Joo Won as Kim Tae Hyun
Kim Tae Hee as Han Yeo Jin
Jo Hyun Jae as Han Do Joon
Chae Jung Ahn as Lee Chae Young
Likes: It’s a terrific story and I love the fact that Joo Won took the lead. With his experience as a genius surgeon before, it was easy to associate him with another medical drama. Young, ambitous, talented and risk-taker Kim Tae Hyun is a character to fall in love with. That even the most beautiful sleeping princess would sleep no more :).
Talking of “the most beautiful”, I think this drama has the most beautiful leading lady I’ve ever seen (since it’s my first Kim Tae Hee drama ever, haha!). She really looks like a doll! How can one be so beautiful even in their sleep! Angel-like in her long hair and fierce with a short hair. Just too perfect!
I love the music that’s being played everytime someone has to make a great entrance… It makes everyone looks so great and powerful and cool and good-looking and huge…. even on their burial.
Han Yeo Jin’s house is magnificient! It looks familiar though because it’s the same house in the “The Heirs”. In this drama, they put more details in the interior.
The sleeping beauty lab is a work of art! This has to come up very impressive as it would be the home of the most beautiful, rich, (powerful if awake) chaebol heiress.
I love Cynthia, the supermodel! Her presence was something. She would have overshadowed Han Yeo Jin’s character if she was there all the time :). It was a short role but glad to see her again in the last episode.
Some comical relief… how about our gangster support? Love them! Our gangster boss specially gave the whole drama a lighter mood.
Poor Han Do Joon but at least wifey had a change of heart for him.
Romantic windy hill scenes! And I got 2 of them.
How could you resist a million-dollar proposal from your very beautiful girlfriend? From an heiress to surgeon boyfriend… marry me, be my only heir and legal guardian… ahm of course YES!
And I just love the ending. Teasing! I thought they would pull a nasty one, almost got me fooled. But it turned out to be awesome! With the come back of Cynthia and a young company, they pulled a very Yong Pal ending! Love, love, love!
Dislikes: Just some logic holes here… why would you hire that sly secretary who was with the enemy all along and put all your trust in him. It was just so annoying watching him almost winning in the end.
Summary: Park Ji Sang is a popular surgeon who just started working at Taemin Cancer Hospital. He’s young, good-looking but he keeps a secret. He’s a vampire! Son of both infected parents, one of its kind. Ji Sang meets Yoo Ri Ta, the heiress of Taemin and also a surgeon. Together, they’ll find a way how to stop the scientific experiment that is being conducted in the hospital.
Genre: Medical, Fantasy, Romance
Stars: Ahn Jae Hyun as Park Ji Sang
Koo Hye Sun as Yoo Ri Ta
Ji Jin Hee as Lee Jae Wook
Jung Hae In as as Joo Hyun Woo
Likes: The whole story wasn’t that bad and thanks to a very good director for a very snappy execution of the script. I would have gotten bored if it wasn’t fast-paced. Well vampires do move very fast :).
The notable side characters or cases in the hospital like the little girl Na Jung, Sister Sylvia, the father who had liver cancer whose wish was to walk her daughter to the altar on her wedding day and the secret of the chairman and lady director. I may have missed some more but my point is there was some diversion that made the whole show less boring.
The chemistry between the leads wasn’t that bad. It was awkward at first but it was justified by their kiss.
Koo Hye Sun, I just love her. She has improved a lot since her BOF days! That pale skin of hers is vampiristic! (Though she wasn’t the vampire).
The villain’s acting is superb! It made the lead’s lack-of very obvious.
I lurve LUVVY! I want one too! Omo, omo… And I love his creator too, Hyun Woo! He was always energetic, bubbly and happy.
I love the OST. It gives the vampire chills but at the same staying true to kdrama :).
The ending that I like though I didn’t understand how he made it… the Kochenia epilogue!
Dislikes: Ahn Jae Hyun, I know his looks could pass as a vampire but the acting was just too poor. He needs to practice more on his facial expression. It didn’t help that he was surrounded by good actors and even a good director couldn’t hide his lacking. He’s got potentials but too early to be a lead star.
The ending that I didn’t like… why oh why they have to kill Hyun Woo! Now LUVVY is an orphan. Eottoki!
And that stupid move of Ji Sang to avenge Hyun Woo, leaving Ri Ta behind and ended up being cornered by the vampire director. Argh, so annoying!
Summary: A third-generation chaebol, Cha Do Hyun suffering from multiple personality disorder seeks help to deal with his illness and met a young psyciatrist, Oh Ri Jin in the process. As they try to work together, grim secrets from the past started to get unraveled while also discovering that they both originally knew each other.
Genre: Romantic Comedy, Medical, Mystery
Stars: Ji Sung as Cha Do Hyun
Hwang Jung Eum as Oh Ri Jin
Park Seo Joon as Oh Ri Ohn
Oh Min Suk as Cha Ki Joon
Kim Yoo Ri as Han Chae Yun
Likes: Simply put, an excellent drama! Let’s hear out why?
Great script! This is undeniably the best storyline I ever had in a kdrama. The twists are great, they never fail to surprise me. Every episode was a bomb. I thought oh okay, the great secret has been revealed, nothing interesting left but boy the surprises never stopped until it finally ended. I kept on saying, Oh my, that’s why! (with goosebumps of course)
Great director! It’s obvious, the story won’t shine and the cast won’t either if it wasn’t directed awesomely.
Great cast! Ji Sung and Hwang Jung Eum is definitely a success pair. I love them both in Secret and was glad to find out they collaborated again. There can’t be any other choice than these two for this drama especially Ji Sung who did a FANTASTIC performance of all 7 characters. Also the supporting cast couldn’t be left out, everyone was just great!
Great personalities! I love them so I’ll talk about every single one…
Mr. X – he appeared last so I thought oh there’s no need for him but when his identity was revealed, I had goosebumps again :).
Nana – she’s one of the biggest surprises here. Oh that name revelation is still giving me goosebumps!
Ahn Yo Sub – I just wanna hug this one a lot. So young, so talented but so depressed :(.
Ahn Yo Na – this girl will make you crack up! So funny! And Ji Sung oh Ji Sung, you did such a great job with this one.
Perry Park – I lurve the accent! But I think what I like about Perry Park most is the story behind why he existed.
and last but not the least, my favorite of them all…
Shin Si Ge – the looks, the style, the voice, the confidence, the no-fear attitude, the temper… he was just sizzlin hot! I almost fell off my chair when he got his parting gift from the lady love. I’m terribly terribly missing him. Shin Si Ge dear, you made a really great rival!
Great OST! That awesome song which is always played at the right moment and makes my heart beats faster. Yep the one with the rapping :). I don’t understand a word but it sounds really great.
Great ending! Though it had come to the end for the personalities that I started to like, they’ve been given so much value in the drama assuring they’re gonna be missed. It was a bitter, sweet one but done so well.
Note: No dislikes for this drama. I love it and I’m giving it a top rating, same level like my all-time favorite Secret Garden. So there you go…
Summary: Jang Jae Yul, a famous novelist and radio DJ who’s sufferring from a personality disorder meets Ji Hae Soo, a psychiatrist. The 2 had to live together with other 2 guys in a house which is owned by Jang Jae Yul. For Ji Hae Soo, falling in love with someone who can be her patient was the biggest challenge. Helped by other professional psychiatrist friends, the 2 will have a chance to pursuit a normal relationship.
Genre: Melodrama, Romantic Comedy, Medical
Stars: Jo In Sung as Jang Jae Yul
Gong Hyo Jin as Ji Hae Soo
Lee Kwang Soo as Park Soo Kwang
Sung Dong Il as Jo Dong Min
Likes: The drama has a serious medical topic but done greatly to appeal to viewers who are into romance. In other words, medical-romance combined nicely topped with 2 of the best actors in Korea.
Jo In Sung and Gong Hyo Gin’s dramas are always to watch for. They seem to be very skilled in choosing dramas where they truly shine and this is one example of that.
Jo In Sung – remains one the sexiest korean actor for me. His sleek, tall figure; pretty face and excellent acting makes him one.
Gong Hyo Gin – this lady though not the prettiest has the charisma on screen. She’ll make you love her.
For those who want to have a good cry, this one’s for you. Great drama moments thanks to the leads.
Presence of good comical reliefs makes the drama light and bearable.
Happy ending for everyone!
Dislikes: There were just moments when it was making me so sad. Not much of a crying-drama person.
Summary: The story of a blind girl who gained back her eyesight but lost her first love. After 12 years, he was back and she was in love with him again but dark secrets would stop them from being together.
Genre: Romance, Melodrama, Medical, Family
Stars: Lee Sang Yoon as as Park Dong Joo
Koo Hye Sun as Yoon Soo Wan
Kim Ji Suk as Kang Ji Woon
Jung Jin Young as Yoon Jae Bum
Jung Ae Ri as Oh Young Ji
Seung Ri as Teddy Seo
Likes: If you like a good cry then this drama is for you. It’s definitely one of the best melodrama I’ve watched so far. The story was sad, no maybe even tragic and that was well-conveyed to the audience. Plus Koo Hye Sun’s crying was always convincing, you just want to cry with her. Lee Sang Yoon, aside from his admirable looks (height, very proportional body and a handsome face with a dimple) is really great in crying too. These 2 leads were convincingly good on being sad :).
I thought this drama was getting draggy but I think it’s actually made that way. Everything was so detailed, from the prologue (2 episodes with the young Dong Joo and Soo Wan and these youngs characters were from time to time appearing throughout the drama), the main story and to the epilogue which was 1.5 episode long. As if writers explained in detail what pain and heartache really are and they would want you to understand that.
The “what if story”! As I’ve said it was too detailed they even show what would happen if … All happy and my favorite is of course the wedding scene!
I love the characters of the 2 leads (so as the actors). It’s good that they got great young actors who are comparable (to the main leads) to portray the young Dong Joo and Soo Wan. Young Soo Wan especially looks like young Koo Hye Sun.
As for the other guy, Kim Ji Suk looks great here. He definitely gave Lee Sang Yoon a good competition. Hm, 2 great guys competing for our good old Jan Di, huh!
The presence of Seungri! It’s always fantastic baby! He was definitely the best comical relief in this drama.
It’s good to see another island getting featured. A good break from our favorite Jeju.
Not necessary but I’d like to mention I really like Soo Wan’s lovely house! From the story, it’s understandable why she doesn’t like to go back. Too many sad memories.
Love the OST specially the “run run running to you” song :). Couldn’t help but sang-a-long everytime it was played.
Dislikes: The ending. I would like it just a little bit different.
Genre: Romantic Comedy, Medical
Stars: Song Ji Hyo as Oh Jin Hee
Choi Jin Hyuk as Oh Chang Min
Lee Pil Mo as Gook Chun Soo
Choi Yeo Jin as Shim Ji Hye
Clara as Han Ah Reum
Likes: Divorced couple falling back in love again seems to be the trend this year. It’s different from the usual, I like it! Korea is definitely breaking free from the conservative and traditional ways, which is not all bad if in the end it’s for the best of the individual. Aside from divorce, this drama also shows a strong single mom and a confident young intern characters which again a sign of an open-minded society.
Lots of funny moments! It’s more comedy than the serious ER drama.
Was looking forward to a Choi Jin Hyuk-lead drama after watching Gu Family Book and The Heirs.
I love Chun Soo’s character and I think Lee Pil Mo did a great job portraying him! He’s this brilliant doctor who’s just all work, very private, cold but then became soo cute when he’s falling in love!
I think Shim Ji Hye is just great! Very confident in acting!
Certified happy ending! I think it’s the kind of ending everyone loves.
Dislikes: I just didn’t really warm up to Song Ji Hyo and the character Oh Jin Hee eventhough she got prettier in the end. Then of course the chemistry between her and Choi Jin Hyuk wasn’t really there.
Why is it always attractive to guys in dramas when the ladies drink too much?!
Genre: Medical, Romance, Melodrama, Family
Stars: Joo Won as Park Shi On
Moon Chae Won as Cha Yoon Seo
Joo Sang Wook as Kim Do Han
Kim Min Seo as Yoo Chae Kyung
Likes: It’s a new genre for me in kdrama world but since I used to watch Grey’s Anatomy before so I kind of expected similar dramatic and thrilling stories every episode. Yes I was right and these ones were also packed with great stories!
Very well chosen cast! Everyone was natural in their acting!
-Joo Won has improved a lot since Bridal Mask. Excellent portraying of an autistic character!
-Moon Chae Won is a natural. The strong, brilliant Cha Yoon Seo fits her well!
-Joo Sang Wook is sooo handsome! And his character makes him more handsome!!!
-Kim Min Seo is always consistent with her roles. Her character as Chae Kyung has great chemistry with Kim Do Han.
I like how the main characters developed slowly throughout the drama. Park Si On’s character development was remarkable. I also like the Chief of Pediatric who in the beginning was irritating but he turned out being likeable in the end.
My favorite patients were the puppy girl and In Hye. These 2 girls were great in acting and I love their stories and the ending.
Love couples in the hospital! I love the head and chubby nurse, they were funny – a comical relief in a serious hospital drama.
The ending was good and realistic. I love Park Si On’s speech after being accepted in the hospital as a full-pledged doctor with the closing “Thank you for loving me”. So touching!
And the epilogue! It was funny having Park Ki Woong (cameo) there. Oh I’m pretty sure they didn’t make fun of Bridal Mask ;).
Dislikes: Though the drama was packed with good stories, characters and actors, it’s still a melodrama. Lots of crying. I can’t stand watching 2 episodes in a row! Took me almost a month to finish it!
Too much shouting! I’m just wondering if it’s really like that in Korea. Seniors shouting at their juniors even in a hospital environment.
Summary: A female plastic surgeon in the present was kidnapped by a Woodalchi general from the Goryeo era as per command by the King in order to save the wounded and dying Queen. The doctor was stuck in that world of conflict and politicking between the King and his enemies but found herself liking and falling in love with the General.
Genre: Romance, Time-travel, Period, Medical, Fantasy
Stars: Lee Min Ho as Choi Young
Kim Hee Sun as Yoo Eun Soo
Yoo Oh Sung as Ki Cheol, the freezing prince
Lee Philip as Jang Bin
Ryu Duk Hwan as King Gong Min
Park Se Young as Princess Nogook
Park Yoon Jae as Duk Heung, the poison prince
Likes: Lee Min Ho in period drama, I was really curious and excited!
I love how they introduced characters in the beginning using animation!
The time-travel mystery was solved properly. It made sense in the end!
Got to love the 2 villains: the Freezing and Poison Princes!
Commendable acting of the young prince!
The romance between the King and Queen. These 2 were just too cute!
OST is great! “Carry On” by Ali is my favorite!
I love the ending! Hands down! It compensates everything what it was lacking of.
Dislikes: Costumes, makeup and styling didn’t just fit the period drama. They all look so flawless! The warriors look always spotless and our doctor lady was always sporting a perfect hairstyle that all Gangnam ladies would be jealous of, lol!
The drama was too stretched that some parts became redundant towards the end. Could have ended at episode 20 or even 16.
Honestly, I didn’t feel any chemistry between the main actors. The lack of was saved by the King and Queen.
The Great Doctor’s character, that very frantic Eun Soo especially in the beginning, I didn’t like her at all.
And omo, not to forget when they killed the character of Dr Jang Bin played by Lee Philip, they didn’t even show a corpse or something. Frustrating! They could just have dressed someone else to look like him lying there dead. I knew they killed his character because of an accident but just a disappointment how they killed him. So he wasn’t important at all. Sad.
