Preview: Im Joo Kyung is a high school student who has been bullied for her looks until she found a way of how to make herself pretty by wearing makeup. Suddenly, everyone adores her but one guy from her school knows her secret. “Such an eye-candy! They all good and loving the story too!”
Summary: Shancai, a new student at Mingde University meets the formidable F4. Those four snobs change her life instantly as she becomes the center of attention specially the leader of the group, Dao Mingsi. As Dao Ming Si starts to show interest in her, Shancai has her eyes only on the other F4 member, Hua Zelei. However, Dao Mingsi never gives up and continues to pursue her until she is slowly shifting her attention to him.
Likes: It’s the same storyline all over again but never got tired of Hana Yori Dango / Meteor Garden / Boys Over Flowers. It has a special place in my heart as BOF was my gateway to kdramaland. I love the anime version and BOF but Meteor Garden 2018 is not far off for being a favourite. Although I knew what I’ll have to go through, I was more than willing to go through it all once again… the meeting, the rejection, the falling in love, the breakups, the make ups, and the happy ending.
First off, I love the cast. They are all well-chosen. Let’s start with…
Shen Yue as Dong Shancai – she’s just perfect for the role – not overly pretty, simple, cute but tough and she’s simply a good actress. Her role comes annoying sometimes but she remains likeable throughout the drama. To be this simple-looking but had successfully established a good chemistry between her and the most good-looking members of the F4, Dao Mingsi and Hua Zelei; I would say that Shen Yue did an amazing job.
Dylan Wang as Dao Mingsi – two words – “really handsome”. Yes, he really is handsome and thankfully he did justice to Dao Mingsi’s character. I like his cool face, angry face, naughty face, scheming face, jealous face, being hurt face and most of all, his very in love face. Dylan Wang impressed me with lots of facial expressions but still has to work on a more convincing smile. Minor glitch but he was great!
Darren Chen as Hua Zelei – honestly, he can be mistaken as a girl. That face is so pretty and cute! And those dimples! At first, I thought he was too thin, weak and lacking aura but as the drama progresses, he started to grow in me. Well, I guess it’s been always like that, I always got fooled by Hua Zelei’s character. Great job Darren Chen for being a lovable Hua Zelei! You gave justice to that cute, weak (everyone thought of) but then actually the most mature character.
Connor Leong as Mei Zuo – super tall and thin and hard to ignore due to his choice of outfit :-). That’s Mei Zuo! I had to warm up to his looks but Mei Zuo’s character is so likeable. Young but mature and I love his honesty and humour. He looks fun to be with. Connor Leong, applause for you.
Caesar Wu as Xi Men – if I have to personally pick, I would go for Xi Men. Somehow he looked super sexy when he was drinking all those tea :-). Very charismatic! And he looked like the best kisser in the group! Xi Men all the way :-)! Caesar Wu of course did a great job here, he was someone hard to ignore. So tall and handsome.
I would love to mention everyone but it’s gonna be a long list so I’ll now shift to those favourite best moments that never got old…
- Dao Mingsi attacking Shancai at the stairs moment – he sure looked scary
- the waiting in the rain moment – want my lover to wait for me that long as well!
- being stuck in the elevator moment – I’m pretty sure scary as hell but when you’re with the person you like, it’s NOT
- the blizzard moment – love the fact that the blizzard looked real and our beloved Shancai and Dao Mingsi had to warm up each other in a remote cabin.
- Dao Mingsi coming to Sanya in a yacht moment – I’ll be elated too!
- the Dao Mingsi look-a-like cookie moment – looks yummy!
- the saving Shancai from thugs moment – oh my hero!
- the 520 roses moment – I’m sure it was just ad placement but it was cute
- sleeping in the same bedroom moments – It happened twice but nothing really happened
- the London Bridge moment – I thought my heart was crumpled as well
- the pineapple moment – everyone has to be inspired by something or someone
- the meteor moment – when Dao Mingsi confessed his love properly with a necklace that comes with a meteor pendant and he said to her, “I’ll not trade you for all the meteors in the sky”. Omo omo, I’m melting!
Kissing Scenes. Not bad, not bad really. Who would forget the first ever kiss when Shancai had to be treated in Dao Mingsi’s room. I also love that awkward birthday kiss. Shancai looked so nervous. The meteor moment kiss was great but I like the one best when Shancai stole a kiss on Dao Mingsi by pulling his necktie so he could lean closer to her face. Well, how about Shancai and Hua Zelei’s kiss on the beach. Sure it brought Dao Mingsi’s blood into boil! And Xi Men and Xiaoyou on the rooftop, that was awesome! And I mentioned above, Xi Men seemed to be the best kisser!
I love the OST. Can’t stop listening to it. Here’s a link… Meteor Garden 2018 OST.
Ending. I love the closures to the sub stories at the end and the fact that our beloved couple ended up with each other as we already knew. I’m glad they came up with a classy exit for Daoming Feng.
Dislikes: Smog in Shanghai ruined most of the daylight and night scenes but what can we do.
I don’t find London a romantic city at all. It looked sooo cold and wet. Even the actors looked like they were freezing there. It ruined the romance.
I’m pretty sure everyone noticed that this show is plagued with ad placements. Too many, just too many! I don’t wanna get started because it’s just gonna be a long list. It’s a pity because the story is close to the original but a lot of scenes got bent around to suit ads. Shameless really.
Caina’s love story was nice but it was just off the Meteor Garden storyline. It was unnecessary. And Mei Zuo got even dumped in this part. Not fun at all.
Cooking show where Shancai was a participant was supposed to help Shancai look good for Dao Mingsi’s mum but that didn’t even happen so I wonder if that was a promotion of an actual cooking show.
Last of all, they so messed up the ending. Why did they make it like cast credits in a play. And the never ending ad placement even in the ending. You’re supposed to be honeymooning but why wash your hair with a dandruff shampoo? Ugh, so annoying. I love Bishop Briggs – River but they just killed it with that dance performance by Dao Mingsi’s sister. I mean, I love Daoming Zhuang, I thought she was hot but that dance scene was unnecessary. And what’s with the street performer at the very end, everyone started singing with him then a lady joined them (must be the producer but why???). Yeah so messed up.
Summary: Moorim school is not an ordinary school. It’s hidden and protected by a seal in the depth of the forest so not just everyone could enter. But one day, someone broke the seal and the person who was deemed responsible is a famous idol seeking to cure himself from a physical suffering. He then meets other students and developed a close relationship to them.
Genre: School, Fantasy, Action, Teens
Stars: Lee Hyun Woo as Yoon Shi Woo
Hong Bin as Wang Chi Ang
Seo Ye Ji as Sim Soon Duk
Jung Yoo Jin as Hwang Sun Ah
Likes: Having a teenie, action and school drama in one is definitely new and I enjoyed it a lot. I love the school setting, reminds me of my school days and it reminds me well of one of my favorite school dramas, Boys Over Flowers. Not only that, they even use the same place (as seen in BOF) as the entrance hall of the school. I also like the choice of the leading cast. They’re all good-looking (your typical crushes in highschool, definitely!) and tough (convincingly able to fight)!
Lee Hyun Woo as Yoon Shi Woo – he was a total hottie and a G-dragon deadringer! He totally nailed the idol look. Loved his blonde haircolor in the first few episodes. He was the absolute highschool crush.
Hong Bin as Wang Chi Ang – this idol (in real life) wasn’t bad at all though there were moments when his face looked too frozen. His character was funny and he pulled that off pretty well. I don’t wonder why he was half-naked a lot, he definitely had the body to show off.
Seo Ye Ji as Sim Soon Duk – I loved her already in a previous drama but my first time to see her as the leading lady. Pretty like Arielle (the mermaid) and also simple like her character Soon Duk.
Jung Yoo Jin as Hwang Sun Ah – she’s got to be my favorite. Her beauty is cool and her acting has improved a lot. Action drama could just be the right genre for her.
This drama features a very beautiful birch tree forest as pictured above. Something to see when you’re in Korea.
Love the OST, Alive – powerful and catchy and just realized it’s by VIXX! Aja boys!
Lots of foreigners who could speak perfect Korean in this drama. Just impressive.
Cute and cool scenes like the scooter ride, dressed-up party exam, Soon Duk saving Wang Chiang in the sea hence her nickname Arielle, Yoon Shi Woo and Wang Chiang fights and the Moorim peak challenge.
The best-looking of them all is of course the dean! He always looked good in his suits, even in winter coats.
I loved the first kiss! Shi Woo made the girl’s knee absolutely weak!
Dislikes: I was disappointed to see Shi Woo’s hair turned black. I know it was necessary for the change of character but I had a big crush on the blonde idol wahhh!
Too much drama and face offs in the last episodes. It became a bit draggy towards the end. Thankfully, the drama had only 16 episodes.
They pulled off a Kungfu Panda ending. “There’s no secret ingredient” kind of ending.
Summary: A pretty young vampire, Ma Ri wanted to experience life with humans so she attended highschool where a smart and talented student Jung Jae Min also attends. They got along quickly for they’re both fond of music but Jae Min changed as soon as he learned that Ma Ri is a vampire.
Genre: Romance, Fantasy, School, Teens
Stars: Yeo Jin Goo as Jung Jae Min
Seol Hyun as Baek Ma Ri
Lee Jong Hyun as Han Shi Hoo
Gil Eun Hye as Jo Ah Ra
Likes: Concise and direct to the point! I’m glad they didn’t drag the story to fit more than 12 episodes. It was good that way.
Cute! Teenage vampire in love with teenage human and they made music and everyone seemed to be happy about it ;).
I’m liking the title “Orange Marmalade”. It’s as sweet as the story.
But my favorite part is the Sageuk part though it’s hard for the 2 leads to end up together in that era. The vampiric atmosphere just suits well during those times. The storyline was also richer as if they put a lot of effort on it. So even if it just lasted for 5 episodes, it was those 5 episodes that matter most.
I like the songs the band was playing. They’re all very catchy.
Yeo Jin Goo has grown into a good-looking young man. He did great portraying the smart, talented and sometimes snubbish Jung Jae Min.
Seol Hyun is a sweet surprise. She hit the mark portraying the shy, innocent, isolated young vampire Ma Ri. Definitely a surprise from an idol.
Lee Jong Hyun has improved a lot. He had more facial expressions. Happy to see that very handsome face.
Learned a new term “vamming out”, vampire coming out!
I like the ending though it looked very much a cliche ;).
Dislikes: 1 episode per week! It’s hard to remember what had happened in the previous episode.
In comparison to the sageuk part, the present (school setting) was very lacking.
Genre: Romantic Comedy, School, Melodrama, Teens
Stars: Lee Min Ho as Kim Tan
Park Shin Hye as Cha Eun Sang
Kim Woo Bin as Choi Young Do
Krystal Jung as Lee Bo Na
Kim Ji Won as Rachel Yoo
Kang Min Hyuk as Yoon Chan Young
Kang Ha Neul as Lee Hyo Shin
Park Hyung Shik as Jo Myung Soo
Jun Soo Jin as Kang Ye Sol
Choi Jin Hyuk as Kim Won
Likes: I won’t say no to another Lee Min Ho! Plus it’s Park Shin Hye as the leading lady.
Huge intro! Hollywood, mansion, car, rich californian lifestyle… it was exciting!
Eye candies! So many of them.
One kissing scene that I really like, they didn’t hesitate!
Favorite characters award goes to Lee Bo Na – rich, cute, pretty and she delivered her dialogues pretty well. Another one goes to the mom of Kim Tan, she was the star of the show.
Why Choi Young Do? Hah, the bad boy image, the looks, the hairstyle, the ride, the hotel and he always looks terrific in his outfits!
Why Kim Tan? Got to admit, I’m not yet over the Jun Pyo syndrome plus the surfing board, the car (at least when he was in LA), the top Chaebol label and yeah he fought for the girl that he liked.
Dislikes: It was overhyped! The story is just average… poor girl meets Chaebol, father disapproves and so on and so forth. It was lacking good side stories that could keep the excitement. What a waste of characters, there were plenty of them like what happened to Rachel, she started very strong. How about the pair Bo Na and Chan Young? Choi Young didn’t end up as the great Ji Hoo (BOF). The story became draggy very early because it was too focused on the 2 leads.
The ending? I was hoping for a good epilogue that could save it all but unfortunately none.
Genre: Romantic Comedy, School, Teens
Stars: Min Ho as Kang Tae Joon
Choi Seol Ri as Goo Jae Hee
Lee Hyun Woo as Cha Eun Kyul
Kim Ji Won as Seol Ha Na
Suh Joon Young as Ha Seung Ri
Kang Ha Neul as Joo Ji Chul
Hwang Kwang Hee as Song Jong Min
Likes: There were a number of moments when I found myself laughing a lot. Let’s see if I can remember a few, hm? Ah the ghost part (very funny!), the coach trying to impress other teacher with his veiny arms, Eun Kyul’s imagination, Seung Ri farting in front of Ha Na… and some more!
Good-looking and cute leads. Though the acting could still be improved, these 2 just looked great together!
I love Cha Eun Kyul, that cute, bubbly soccer player who fell for Jae Hee! He was a natural. And to top it all, he looks like that G-guy from Big Bang!
Kim Woo Bin was hot! When his character appeared on the show, suddenly all the other guys became less hot, lol! Sorry Min Ho.
I was impressed by the acting of the Jae Hee’s brother! He looked very Caucasian but he’s actually half Korean. I love the way he speaks Korean!
My favorite funny characters: the coach and the lipgloss guy!
Dislikes: Sorry but it wasn’t done well. If it wasn’t just for the funny parts, I don’t think I would last episode 4. They should have fired the scriptwriter, seriously.
Some poor dialogues and corny scenes.
The ending, hm, well the cheesiest!
Genre: Romantic Comedy, Teens, School
Stars: Jung Yong Hwa as Lee Shin
Park Shin Hye as Lee Kyu Won
Song Chang Ui as Kim Suk Hyun
So Yi Hyun as Jung Yoon Soo
Woo Ri as Han Hee Joo
Kang Min Hyuk as Yeo Joon
Lee Hyun Jin as Hyun Ki Young
Im Se Mi as Cha Bo Woon
Likes: It’s a very likeable story! Unknown girl and popular guy at school getting together. How did it happen?! Yep, you always want to hear the story.
I love the main characters! The good-looking Lee Shin who plays guitar, snobbish especially with girls who like him but sincere when he likes someone. The bubbly, cute Lee Kyu Won who plays Gayageum and works hard to achieve what she likes to do. Both have strong personalities, they just suit each other.
I really like Park Shin Hye and I think of all her dramas I watched, this one is my favorite. She was great here and she looks good with all the hairstyles! The short and wavy one suits her best!
I’m so glad Jung Yong Hwa’s acting improved compared to when he was in You’re Beautiful.
Still more rooms for improvement but he did a great job here. He’s sooo handsome! The character suits him well.
Another special mention, Kang Min Hyuk! Boy, you can act! I guess I’ll be seeing you more in the future!
I’ve got to give credit to the stylist. Well done! Love how you dressed the 2 main characters but the best dressed award goes to So Yi Hyun!
All characters in the story have been given importance. There was a good balance. I will always remember the grandpa, Lee Shin’s dad, Boo Woon, Sa Rang, Yeo Joon and more!
Dislikes: The falling in love part was done in the early episodes. I was still halfway watching it and the 2 leads were going steady already. So as expected, they had to break up just before the ending but you know, they could have at least come up with a good reason why they couldn’t be together for a year. Anyway, just a smalll thing.
Genre: Romantic Comedy, School, Teens
Stars: Bae Suzy as Go Hye Mi
Kim Soo Hyun as Song Sam Dong
Taecyeon as Hyun Shi Hyuk
Ham Eun Jung as Yoon Baek Hee
Jang Woo Young as Jason
IU as Kim Pil Sook
Likes: I desperately needed a teenie drama after Bridal Mask. There I got it!
I started being a fan of kpop, oh well, not too long ago! I’m glad I am otherwise I won’t have really enjoyed this. It felt like an insider to be able to identify all these idols, lol! I’m loving 2PM right now so it was really perfect timing to watch!
Of course, I enjoyed the music! I love Dream High, very catchy! I especially liked the performance of Genie (Girls Generation), got me soo excited! I never thought it’s one of the girls’ older songs :).
The love teams made me giggle! Let’s start with Jason and Pil Sook! They were just adorably cute! The karaoke date, the lollipop, the post-its! Another favorite is Teacher Kang and Shi! I love how teacher Shi transformed from being strict and terrorizing into a cute (wearing floral hair clip) and in love person.
Kim So Hyun! So this was the drama that made you big. I watched The Moon that Embraces the Sun first so I already knew how good he is. He looked very young and thin here but he definitely delivered!
Taecyeon is simply sexy!!!
The story is good even with this kind of ending, it’s still good!
Dislikes: No matter how I put it, the ending was sad. It made me sad when I went to bed, then made me sad again when I woke up :(. First I thought Ji Guk will end up with Hye Mi. Okay they didn’t but I got over that quickly. I still have Sam Dong but boy Sam Dong left and pursued his dream! And if I got it right, it’s already 2018 and he hasn’t been back yet. Oh *sob*!
What happen to the kiss of Hye Mi and Ji Guk inside the ferris wheel. Dang I thought these 2 would really end up together!
Characters that annoyed me! Sorry Hye Mi but you were really annoying in the beginning. Baek Hee too when she was trying to act as the victim (vs Hye Mi) so other students would sympatize with her. And they could just leave out Hye Mi’s dad!
Summary: A story of a girl who’s having a big crush on a good looking guy in her school. When she and her father lost their house from earthquake, they ended up living in the house of her father’s bestfriend who’s actually the dad of her crush.
Likes: The very pretty face of Kim Hyun Joong!
Reminds me of having a crush at school!
Lee Tae Sung’s amazing acting!
Dislikes: Poor chemistry between leads.
Didn’t warm up to Jung So Min, sorry.
Summary: A poor girl got into a school for the rich and met the F4, the top rich guys. After some bullying, the leader of the F4 got interested in her but in the beginning she has a crush on the other one.
Likes: My gateway kdrama!
Good looking oppas!
Over-the-top everything but liked it!
It got me traveled to Macau :)!
Dislikes: Jan Di is cute but sometimes annoying (or I’m just jealous, haha!)
Could have been a more elaborate epilogue.
Summary: A story of a newbie teacher who wants to start teaching at her former school but has to endure her first year being assigned to supervise a spoiled brat who’s a new student of the same school.
Likes: Young Gong Yoo!
Fan of Gong Hyo Jin as well!
Love the fight scenes!
Dislikes: Not a big fan of older woman, younger man love but this still made it to my top 10.
