Likes: A totally wonderful fantasy drama with countless beautiful scenes! Aside from its remarkable fantasy genre, the writer made a perfect balance of melodrama and comedy in one – really, a job well done! Expect to cry, laugh, fall in love and be in awe when watching it.
Beautiful scenes and sets. From the wonderful world of Goryeo kingdom, beautiful autumn scenes of Quebec, mystical Goblin’s secret garden to the classy interior of the Goblin’s house, the creators of this drama obviously put an effort on the details of the sets.
Fantastic story. Romanticizing the legend of the Goblin except that our Goblin is a very handsome man who doesn’t age but is stuck with a curse to live forever and see everyone dies. Of course our Goblin finds the love of his life but has to stick to having that curse – he will have to see her love go. Sounds sad, isn’t it? But it isn’t. That’s the one making this drama fantastic. The creators manage to give us hope without being too corny.
Remarkable characters. Everyone here has a story and is following their fate but everyone’s fate is intricately intertwined. In the end, past life or next, everyone is still very much connected. Moreover, I love the combination of Goblin and Grim reaper. They totally made a great team. And I love that these characters are not really grim but charming and funny. I thought it was a brilliant idea!
The love teams. We have 2 great love teams here and not to forget with very important backgrounds.
Kim Shin & Ji Eun Tak – cute and giggle-worthy! This team brought happy and adventurous memories. I love how they spend their precious time together. The kiss scenes were great, I would rate it 8 out of 10 :).
Wang Yeo & Sunny – funny, sexy but sad! These 2 brought out lots of funny conversations and meetings. They also have an incredible chemistry. The kiss scene, though sad, I would rate it 9 out of 10!
The beautiful cast. Everyone’s good looking in this drama but I’ll focus on the main cast. Here I go…
Gong Yoo – finally my man is back!!! And his more handsome than his Coffee Prince days! Tall, gorgeous even with his sad Goblin’s face.
Kim Go Eun – first time to see her in a drama and I think she’s a natural. I like her cute acting, she never overdid it. She was likeable throughout the drama.
Lee Dong Wook – actually surprised to see him in a supporting role but after watching the drama, I understand why he took it. Also tall and handsome, and his role as grim reaper made him look mysterious.
Yoo In Na – super sexy as usual, flirty in a good way and very natural in acting.
The scary ghosts. They were everywhere as Ji Eun Tak could see them but the scariest of them all is Park Joong Won. He was the ultimate villain here!
The heart-warming OST. Beautiful tracks accompanying lovely, memorable, thrilling and even sad scenes of this drama. Worth checking out!
2 Bonus Scenes. Just add-ons really.
- I thought the cinema scene was hilarious where our two main characters were watching “Train to Busan”, a horror movie with Gong Yoo in it :).
- That scene when the Goblin and the Grim reaper made a mysterious catwalk after buying spring onions then greeting the viewers Happy New Year!
Sad but beautiful ending. I’m glad that the writers were true to the story. I had fully accepted the impending sad fate of the characters but I’m glad that it still ended beautifully. I thought it couldn’t have ended as beautiful as that. Bravo for a drama well done!
Dislikes: Minor thing but still worth mentioning. A lot of you might have not noticed it but I did. I just dislike the Subway and Tag Heuer not too well integrated product placements.
