abyss kdramaSummary: Go Se Yun and Cha Min are good friends. They both died and were revived though the power of the Abyss. Although they’re up and alive, their looks are different from before. Together, they’ll try to live knowing each other’s secret and hand in hand solve the murder case behind Go Se Yun’s death.

Trailer: Abyss

Genre: Romantic Comedy, Legal, Fantasy
Episodes: 16
Stars: Park Bo Young as Go Se Yun
Kim Sa Rang as Go Se Yun (before death)
Ahn Hyo Sup as Cha Min
Ahn Se Ha as Cha Min (before death)
Lee Sung Jae as Oh Young Chul

Likes: Unusual story that involved dying and resurrecting with the use of a big marble-looking object called the Abyss. I was willing to plunge into it obviously. Although there were some holes in the story since the start and left unanswered questions, I found it cute, charming, funny and I admire the effort on the gruesomeness part of the story. Yes, not the usual combination and that’s what made it interesting.

Park Bo Young as Go Se Yun – she was great! Park Bo Young seems to like strong woman roles and what can I say, it suited her very well. It’s also admirable of her to take a role which is actually making fun a bit of her looks.

Ahn Hyo Sup as Cha Min – he really looked so good here! I’ve been comparing his looks from Thirty but Seventeen, he had grown so handsome! I’ve been wondering if he had plastic surgery but I think not, just maybe a bit made up in this drama. His Cha Min role was a more mature one which he also delivered well.

The chemistry. This is one of the points that I extra like in this drama. Never mind the hollowness of the story when the leads had an amazing chemistry. Park Bo Young is for sure older than Ahn Hyo Sup but that didn’t affect the spark. It was having lots of sparks in fact!

The kissing scenes. And because of that chemistry, the kissing scenes were cute and awesome! It was never awkward.

The villain. I thought Oh Young Chul was brilliant! The first episodes were interesting because of him.

Supporting couple. Detective Park Dong Chul and Lawyer Lee Mi Do cheesy scenes were ice breakers. I love this couple! They were always there for our top leads.

The OST. I especially love Shalalalala. Funny scenes normally has this as background music. Fallin and Into the Abyss are also great to listen to.

The Ending. This had my tears flowing, it better be a happy ending. And I think they heard me.

Dislikes: The second to the last episode was quite cheesy but still bearable to watch.

Hae Jin’s screaming was really irritating.

Seo Ji Uk was sill lacking as villain.

Shameless ad placement. Hello Tous and Dyson.

Ahn Hyo Sup as Yoo Chan

Likes: A surprisingly wonderful drama! I just love everything about it. It was entertaining from start to finish, it never lost it’s momentum. Simply awesome!

The Story. It was unique. At least I never had this one before. Now, our girl waking up 13 years later after falling into coma. Scared of her own looks as she became older and also couldn’t  find her relatives who used to live with her before. Tragic, right? But wait! Here comes our guy who is the new owner of the girl’s house, has some psychological problem of his own and is cold to everyone, but he let our girl stay in the house for a month until she finds her relatives. Cupid came in and you know what happens when this one meddles in. And then, with some twist and that, viola, they actually already knew each other before :-). Hm, something like that but of course the story was beautifully told. Really, must watch!

The Cast. Can’t get any better. I love everyone!

Shin Hye Sun as Woo Seo Ri – she was a surprise. Didn’t expect her to be the main lead but she deserves to be the main lead! She did really well as the childish, innocent, 17-year-old Woo Seo Ri. And her chemistry with Yang Se Jong was awesome. To look 30 but appear 17 and in love for the first time was the challenge in this role and she nailed it.

Yang Se Jong as Gong Woo Jin – oh how I love this guy but I should rate him on how he did in this drama. And yes, he is consistently good! I love his facial expressions especially when he looked at someone with admiration. Omo, omo, I melted several times! And he can cry too, even without trying too hard. Definitely a great actor! This kind of role: melancholic, OC and cold always seems perfect for him but I believe he can do other roles too – with flying colours.

Ahn Hyo Sup as Yoo Chan – the athlete body suits Ahn Hyo Sup perfectly. He is tall and obviously he trained hard for those muscles too. I love Yoo Chan, he’s a very energetic, lively and positive character. He basically lit up the whole show. And of course his famed motto, DON’T THINK, FEEL is next best thing to FIGHTING!

Ye Ji Won as Jennifer – Oh Jennifer, definitely the star of the show! The outfit, the quotes, the cooking. Definitely, BY JENNIFER! Credit to Ye Ji Won for bringing this awesome character to life. Jennifer was just too cool and likeable!

Secret Ingredients. I think the overall positive energy that this drama conveys contributed hugely to its success. That energy was everywhere and in every character and most of all in every group: the new family that was created in the house, the rowing team, the design team. It was very beautiful to watch. And the other secret ingredient is a credit that goes to the director and the camera people for having this technique of focusing too close to the person’s face, revealing details like sweats, pimples, breathing, etc, making us viewers hear and feel what the subjects are going through. I thought that was brilliant! One good example of this was the main leads’ first kiss. To be able to convey that exact feeling and emotions during that scene was just fantastic!

The Ending. Such a beautiful ending. I don’t want to go into details but I just wanna say it was very well done, hands down!

Dislikes: I just don’t understand why the aunt kept the money all those years but didn’t pay for Woo Seo Ri hospitalization. A minor setback but can be ignored.
