Likes: The best thriller drama this year, hands down! Great plot, character-riched story brought to life by awesome actors!
I love the way it started. Park Jeong Woo, already in prison accused of killing his wife and daughter. We don’t know what happened and we’re curious to find out! Villain was always one step ahead, our main guy keeps on forgetting his memory, it was frustrating but little by little we see some hope.
Though our top characters Park Jeong Woo and Cha Min Ho/ Cha Seon Ho are already awesome, I love the fact that the writers also put importance to minor ones. So it wasn’t just the 2 all the time, we get background stories about friend inmates, prison warden and guards, the prosecutors, people connected to Chamyung group, Park Jeong Woo’s in laws, Yeon Hee and her revenge, Seo Eun Hye and her lawyer dream, and how all these minor characters were intricately connected. It was never boring to watch!
Ji Sung is definitely the best choice for this drama. This is his genre. Brilliant already as he always was in his past roles, Ji Sung as Park Jeong Woo shows off his flexibility in acting, changing from a dignified, tough, brave prosecutor to a hopeless death-row prisoner, a determined escapee then at the end back to his confident prosecutor self.
Uhm Ki Joon is a big surprise. He was okay-ish in Dream High 1 but really impressed by him portraying 2 crucial roles in this drama. From Cha Seon Ho, the respectable Chamyung group heir to Cha Min Ho, the psychotic and merciless brother. He delivered really well and a real match to our Ji Sung!
I think the most thrilling part of this drama was the prison break! It was a breathtaking scene.
Funny moments when…
- Cha Min Ho got caught by the lie detector test which he initially suggested.
- Prison inmates dancing to a kpop girl group song.
- Optimus Shin Chul Shik helped Park Jeong Woo
One of the best thrilling instrumental music. Check out Defendant OST.
Character sacrifice to make the story more believable – death of Ji Soo (Park Seong Woo’s wife) and Lee Sung Kyu (inmate).
Male prosecutor, former bff of Park Jeong Woo, Kang Jun Hyuk is prettier than our lady lawyer Seo Eun Hye haha!
Shin Rin Ah portraying the role of Park Ha Yeon, Park Jeong Woo’s daughter is very promising. Watch out for her!
I love the ending! At first I expected to be disappointed that the drama got extended by 2 episodes. This normally doesn’t come out good but it was just enough time to have a proper closure for everyone. The inmates reunion at the end was awesome! Cha Min Ho finally paying for everything that he did. Our Park Jeong Woo, recovering well from his loss and back as a fierce prosecutor – only investigating those their seniors prohibit them to investage. Love the very last scene!
Dislikes: Some obvious ad placement like the car (was it Hyundai?). That was when they did the dumptruck-car chase. And yes Subway again! Lots of subway sandwiches in the drama ;).
There seems to be only one psychiatrist/psychogolist in Korea haha!
Summary: Shin Suk Ho, a former manager of talents at a top entertainment company hit rock bottom after serving a year in prison. He then founded Mango Entertainment and formed a band called Entertainer. The vocalist Jo Ha Neul happened to be the brother of Suk Ho’s close friend who was a great talent himself. Together with some of his closest friends from the industry, Suk Ho worked hard to put Entertainer band into the limelight.
Genre: Romance, Comedy
Stars: Ji Sung as Shin Suk Ho
Hyeri as Jung Geu Rin
Kang Min Hyuk as Jo Ha Neul
Chae Jung Ahn as Yeo Min Joo
Likes: It’s good to see a favorite again! Ji Sung is no doubt a great actor. His role in this drama is a bit different from his previous projects – a hectic, sly, good with words, workaholic manager, depressed but even then still a good leader (his life was kind of messy) – but as usual Ji Sung did it so well, in fact without him in this drama, it would have been really boring. And I have to mention, this guy can cry even without trying so hard. There’s lots of scenes in this drama to prove that. So guys get those kleenex ready!
Entertainer band consists of really cute guys. Ha Neul is tall and handsome, Kyle is super funny, Jae Hoon is a total cutie and Yun Soo is charismatic. The style of songs the band played is somehow similar to CNBlue which is probably not a coincidence considering Kang Min Hyuk (CNBlue’s drummer) is playing Ha Neul.
First time to see Busan featured in a drama. It’s been always Jeju Island. Busan looked less busy than Seoul and the water views were beautiful especially outside Ha Neul’s waterside home.
That song Go Ahead, Cry is just beautiful. Sad but beautiful.
This has a series of seriously heavy drama moments. Everyone seemed to have a sad story so as I’ve said, have your Kleenex ready. Have a good cry.
Popular cameos: Park Shin Hye was there shortly and Seo Kang Joon as Kyle’s friend.
Though it wasn’t the focus, I love the romance between Suk Ho and Geu Rin and the story of that green (rhymes with Geu Rin) umbrella and how it might shed some light as to where their story is leading in the end.
Everyone’s story has a closure in this drama. After all the heavy drama, you’ve got a time to laugh and smile in the end.
The award moment in the end when all 4 members of the band were on the red carpet… in their tuxedos…all groomed… walking in slow mo… then stopped and ask their boss (Suk Ho) to join them. All 5 of them then continued the slow mo, red carpet moment! Quite cheesy but loved it :).
Dislikes: Kang Min Hyuk looks handsome and tall but his mouth was a bit disturbing especially when he cries. His face sometimes lack emotions. He definitely needs more acting workshop.
Storylines were too good to be true. There were times I’d say… REALLY???
I think the script and its execution is below par for an actor like Ji Sung.

Hwang Jung Eum as Oh Ri Jin
Park Seo Joon as Oh Ri Ohn
Oh Min Suk as Cha Ki Joon
Kim Yoo Ri as Han Chae Yun
Likes: Simply put, an excellent drama! Let’s hear out why?
Great script! This is undeniably the best storyline I ever had in a kdrama. The twists are great, they never fail to surprise me. Every episode was a bomb. I thought oh okay, the great secret has been revealed, nothing interesting left but boy the surprises never stopped until it finally ended. I kept on saying, Oh my, that’s why! (with goosebumps of course)
Great director! It’s obvious, the story won’t shine and the cast won’t either if it wasn’t directed awesomely.
Great cast! Ji Sung and Hwang Jung Eum is definitely a success pair. I love them both in Secret and was glad to find out they collaborated again. There can’t be any other choice than these two for this drama especially Ji Sung who did a FANTASTIC performance of all 7 characters. Also the supporting cast couldn’t be left out, everyone was just great!
Great personalities! I love them so I’ll talk about every single one…
Mr. X – he appeared last so I thought oh there’s no need for him but when his identity was revealed, I had goosebumps again :).
Nana – she’s one of the biggest surprises here. Oh that name revelation is still giving me goosebumps!
Ahn Yo Sub – I just wanna hug this one a lot. So young, so talented but so depressed :(.
Ahn Yo Na – this girl will make you crack up! So funny! And Ji Sung oh Ji Sung, you did such a great job with this one.
Perry Park – I lurve the accent! But I think what I like about Perry Park most is the story behind why he existed.
and last but not the least, my favorite of them all…
Shin Si Ge – the looks, the style, the voice, the confidence, the no-fear attitude, the temper… he was just sizzlin hot! I almost fell off my chair when he got his parting gift from the lady love. I’m terribly terribly missing him. Shin Si Ge dear, you made a really great rival!
Great OST! That awesome song which is always played at the right moment and makes my heart beats faster. Yep the one with the rapping :). I don’t understand a word but it sounds really great.
Great ending! Though it had come to the end for the personalities that I started to like, they’ve been given so much value in the drama assuring they’re gonna be missed. It was a bitter, sweet one but done so well.
Note: No dislikes for this drama. I love it and I’m giving it a top rating, same level like my all-time favorite Secret Garden. So there you go…
Genre: Melodrama, Romance
Stars: Hwang Jung Eum as Kang Yoo Jung
Ji Sung as Jo Min Hyuk
Bae Soo Bin as Ahn Do Hoon
Lee Da Hee as Shin Se Yeon
Likes: I like everything about the drama; the plot, the cast, the direction, the ending – well done!
The plot – it’s a perfect balance of sadness, revenge, ambition and love. How the truth unravel in the end reminds me of a couple good HongKong movies I watched in the past which has a similar style of storyline. You wouldn’t miss to say, oh so that how it actually happened! Every episode is a thrill you don’t wanna miss.
The cast – well chosen! I just love the four of them. Hwang Jung Eum acted as the perfect victim. Ji Sung, oh Ji Sung (he’s hot!) was perfect immature Chaebol. Bae Soo Bin, he gets these creepy roles but suit him very well. Lee Da Hee, ah she always looked naturally rich!
The direction – for the acting to look very natural, it must be the doing of the so called director! Simply well done!
The ending – we get this story which is almost reality but has a sweet kdrama ending, ahhh! I’m actually used to have a HongKong thriller movie kind of ending but hey this is a kdrama afterall!
The most touching moment is about the son. How dare them writers touch the hearts of the moms?? Wahhh, I couldn’t help crying. But it was good, well researched or maybe the writers are moms as well :).
Perfect length of drama! I wouldn’t ask for an additional episode just to have a longer epilogue. It was perfect like that!
Dislikes: It’s hard to recall something I disliked. I think the likes outweighs it all.
