Preview: Secretary Kim, the very capable secretary of 9 years of the quite handsome but full of himself vice chairman Lee Young Joon is quitting and leaving the very handsome boss frustrated. “Oh well, what do we’ve got here? Two equally hot leads with top chemistry! Through 4 episodes and I want more! Can’t wait for next week!
Summary: Ko Dong Man and Choi Ae Ra are childhood friends who are both there for each other during difficult times. As they failed to fulfill their childhood dreams, they’ve tried to do unexciting jobs to feed themselves which left both of them unhappy and discontented. So when the chance came to do it right, they grabbed the opportunity.
Likes: Although it’s a typical bestfriend-love kind of story, I can’t hide the fact that I like these 2 bestfriends! They’re super good looking, great in acting and the chemistry is super top! The 2 complemented each other in acting and looks. And they were very comfortable with each other’s company.
Park Seo Joon is sexiest in this role! Hands down. Just look at that body! Who says Korean men can’t be buffed. I like his role here, the not so smart Ko Dong Man but a martial arts genius.
Kim Ji Won is super good! Very pretty and when it comes to acting, she’s a natural. She’s one of those very promising female leads in Korean TV. Her role as Cho Ae Ra, although didn’t match her pretty face, she simply did it with ease.
Very good supporting couple story! I was always interested as to what will happen to our Joo Man and Sul Hee as much as I was looking forward to our Dong Man and Ae Ra. The supporting couple had a very well-done, one of the most elaborated supporting story in my history of kdrama addiction :).
I love the friendships, the bromance and (womance)? Is there such a word? Ae Ra has Sul Hee, Dong Man has Joo Man. The 4 are really close friends. But wait, we also have Dong Man and coachinim! The latter even threatens our top leads’ romance :).
Dong Man’s command in the English language was awesome! Tap! Tap! No Tap! Yes Tap! Lol! Oh well, as long as John Karellas understood everything.
BTS’s Fire as Dong Man’s intro music whenever he would enter the ring. I thought that was cool!
I love the flashbacks when they were still young. It gives clarity to some loose ends.
I like it that our Nam Il villa’s ahjumma ended up as someone very important. Give’s the story a nice twist.
I thought the scene of both fathers hiding inside the ahjumma’s cabinet was the funniest :)).
I was missing some wedding scenes but the proposal was lovely! It will do, it will do.
Dislikes: I just didn’t get the thing with the flippy cellphone. And the ahjumma had cellphone already at that time. When was that 25 years ago?
Nam Il 2 is too handsome to have a very small role. I was expecting more.
Summary: Queen Ji So of Silla Kingdom founds Hwarang in order to protect her son, the young King Jin Heung. Hwarang is a group of beautiful, young men train to be warriors. But the king joins the group incognito and meets Sun Woo, a strong and determined warrior and leader who jumped from his peasant to a half-breed status. Both fall in love with Ah Ro, a storyteller and a doctor.
Genre: Period, Romance
Stars: Park Seo Joon as Moo Myung / Sun Woo
Go Ah Ra as Ah Ro
Park Hyung Shik as Sam Maek Jong (later King Jinheung of Silla)
Choi Min Ho as Su Ho
Do Ji Han as Ban Ryu
Jo Yoon Woo as Yeo Wool
Kim Tae Hyung (V) as Han Sung
Kim Hyun Joon as Dan Se
Likes: Lots and lots of pretty boys in one drama, omo omo! Why do I love Hwarang, I dare enumerate…
- pretty, flawless faces!
- their gorgeous, well-groomed long hairs and eyebrows!
- beautiful bodies!
- fantastic outfits!
- oozing with nobility!
- swordsmanship and horsemanship!
- and last but not the least… loyalty and bromance!
My favorite Hwarangs…
Sun Woo – the leader! this guy is tough and strong, pretty determined to learn and blend despite adversity, naturally a great leader, honest and faithful to his love and his calling.
Sam Maek Jong – the king incognito! he appeared mysteriously confident in the beginning, has a very pretty face, educated, great with sword and archery but kind of lost to shine when he kept on to conceal his identity.
Su Ho – the playboy! His face speaks the desire to please women :). He even tried his charm on the Queen. He talks a lot, he confronts a lot but actually very friendly.
Ban Ryu – the snob! Very particular with his status and ambition but lost his desire to be evil when he chose to be with his lady love.
Yeo Wool & Han Sung – the cutest and the prettiest (hands down)!
My favorite side characters…
Master Ui Hwa – chief of Hwarang for his lecture full of ancient wisdom, for his humour and for his rice cakes (makes me want to try them too)!
Prince of Baekje – for his arrogance and his sexy accent :)!
Pa Oh – for his unconditional loyalty to the king!
The Silla World is pretty cool as what was portrayed in this drama. Though in the later episodes, the drama was set mainly inside the Hwarang’s house, the introduction didn’t fail to show the bars, the restaurants, the busy alleys, the soccer stadium, the shops – just like in the modern world. Very vibrant!
Ah Ro vs Princess Sook Myung – I like Ah Ro, she was a good storyteller but her beauty was just off. I’m not saying she isn’t pretty but her beauty just didn’t suit Silla time well. Princess Mook Myung on the other hand was every inch like a princess, the way she presented herself and the way she spoke.
Ah Ro – Sun Woo & Ban Ryu – Soo Yun’s KISS – Poor Ah Ro and Sun Woo, very little chemistry. Them being fake siblings didn’t help either. Ban Ryu and Soo Yun’s kiss is the winner! These 2 should have a spin-off!
The ending had some epic scenes…
- I love Sun Woo’s confrontation with Jin Heung in front of the throne.
- Hwarang declaring their loyalty to King Jin Heung. Mansae, mansae man mansae!
- King Jin Heung’s coronation. (Look at the ravishing king with those golden crown and accesories!!!)
- Queen Ji So’s last moment. (With the love of her life!)
- The never-ending display of bromance sealed with a final horseride! Just beautiful!
Dislikes: I have to mourn Han Sung’s death :(. I just have to think, he probably went for a concert tour :).
Summary: Kim Hye Jin was happy to hear from her old friend Ji Sung Joon. Remembering him as the chubby boy from school, she was surprised to see him as a handsome, successful man. Ji Sung Joon on the other hand remembered her as the pretty girl and thought she would even look prettier in the present. Unfortunately it wasn’t the case.
Likes: I was glad to see Hwang Jung Eum and Park Seo Joon as a couple in this drama. Though these 2 were kind of siblings in Kill Me, Heal Me, the guy’s interest on her made me wish to see them together in another drama. It seemed my wish had been heard. There was obviously a good chemistry between the leads though Park Seo Joon appears to be much younger than Hwang Jung Eum. The bubbly character of Kim Hye Jin suited to that cold personality of Ji Sung Joon which made it comfortable to watch.
Si Won oh Si Won! It’s great to see another idol in a drama. Si Won delivered pretty well. His transformation from the scruffy look reporter to the very handsome author TEN was definitely MOST (magazine)-like! His looks, acting, command in the English language, I’m pretty sure I’ll be seeing him more in the future. Furthermore, his character in this drama had been made the “big lose”. Such a waste Si Won got dumped! Something like that… The one that got away but not to worry he’ll have his own drama next time :).
Hug and kissing scene on the hospital bed was a heart-stopping one.
Kim Hye Jin’s look transformation was worth the wait. It took it 8 episodes to finally see her pretty but she turned really pretty and more likeable.
It was cute to mention Super Junior while focusing the camera on Si Won’s face.
The lady boss got to be the funniest character in this drama. Her outfits were outrageous so as her Italian accent. It was always very entertaining to watch her.
The ending was cliche so as the whole drama actually but there’s something about cliches that I like. No surprises. I got the ending that I like… wedding scene and an elaborate epilogue that was even showing a beautiful offspring.
Dislikes: It was hard to watch the 2 main leads unlikeable characters in the beginning. Kim Hye Jin was just too loud and Ji Sung Joon was such an ass.
I like Park Seo Joon but he’s no Ji Sung. He was a bit lacking when it comes to acting.
In one of the scenes, Hari was doing yoga with too much makeup. Hm…
Summary: A third-generation chaebol, Cha Do Hyun suffering from multiple personality disorder seeks help to deal with his illness and met a young psyciatrist, Oh Ri Jin in the process. As they try to work together, grim secrets from the past started to get unraveled while also discovering that they both originally knew each other.
Likes: Simply put, an excellent drama! Let’s hear out why?
Great script! This is undeniably the best storyline I ever had in a kdrama. The twists are great, they never fail to surprise me. Every episode was a bomb. I thought oh okay, the great secret has been revealed, nothing interesting left but boy the surprises never stopped until it finally ended. I kept on saying, Oh my, that’s why! (with goosebumps of course)
Great director! It’s obvious, the story won’t shine and the cast won’t either if it wasn’t directed awesomely.
Great cast! Ji Sung and Hwang Jung Eum is definitely a success pair. I love them both in Secret and was glad to find out they collaborated again. There can’t be any other choice than these two for this drama especially Ji Sung who did a FANTASTIC performance of all 7 characters. Also the supporting cast couldn’t be left out, everyone was just great!
Great personalities! I love them so I’ll talk about every single one…
Mr. X – he appeared last so I thought oh there’s no need for him but when his identity was revealed, I had goosebumps again :).
Nana – she’s one of the biggest surprises here. Oh that name revelation is still giving me goosebumps!
Ahn Yo Sub – I just wanna hug this one a lot. So young, so talented but so depressed :(.
Ahn Yo Na – this girl will make you crack up! So funny! And Ji Sung oh Ji Sung, you did such a great job with this one.
Perry Park – I lurve the accent! But I think what I like about Perry Park most is the story behind why he existed.
and last but not the least, my favorite of them all…
Shin Si Ge – the looks, the style, the voice, the confidence, the no-fear attitude, the temper… he was just sizzlin hot! I almost fell off my chair when he got his parting gift from the lady love. I’m terribly terribly missing him. Shin Si Ge dear, you made a really great rival!
Great OST! That awesome song which is always played at the right moment and makes my heart beats faster. Yep the one with the rapping :). I don’t understand a word but it sounds really great.
Great ending! Though it had come to the end for the personalities that I started to like, they’ve been given so much value in the drama assuring they’re gonna be missed. It was a bitter, sweet one but done so well.
Note: No dislikes for this drama. I love it and I’m giving it a top rating, same level like my all-time favorite Secret Garden. So there you go…
