i'll find you on a beautiful daySummary: After a failed teaching career in Seoul, Mok Hae Won goes back to the countryside where she grew up and studied. She meets again her former classmate Im Eun Sub who now owns a bookshop and is quite content with his life in the village. Little did she know that Im Eun Sub liked her a lot even when they were still young but opted to admire her from the far.

Trailer: I’ll Find You on a Beautiful Day

Genre: Romance
Episodes: 16
Stars: Park Min Young as Mok Hae Won
Seo Kang Joon as Im Eun Sub

Likes: I would normally go for the romantic comedy but I won’t say no to a wonderfully made romance drama complete with all the necessary spices.

A beautifully written script. Such a great storytelling with focus on details. It didn’t give me an impression of being lost while following every episode. There was always a sense of cohesiveness. It was of course focus on the present but with important flashbacks of the past. It was going back and forth like that but it was just so well done.

The small town set. Some kdramas seem to be parting away from the usual Seoul scenes these days which is a breath of fresh air. Something new, something we don’t normally connect with Korea. I love the small town feel in this one. A place with very few people who mostly know each other and gather on special occasions to connect with everyone further. That very close ties between people in this town was also very well emphasize in this drama.

The focus on values. I love how the characters had emphasis on their values. It didn’t matter if one had a similar value to another, the important thing is how a character stood by his or her own values. For example, when there was this discussion during the book club meeting and someone said, you go around trying to find your happiness somewhere only to end up going back to where you come from and realize that happiness lies there. Then someone else contradicted, what if the case is you’re trying to find happiness somewhere but could not find it so you just decided that the simple happiness you find at home is actually the happiness you’ve been looking for.

It gave us a lot of thoughts. What is really important to each one of us?

The unique characters. This was something that really impressed me about this drama. The characters are very well thought of. I could appreciate it already if the main characters are very well defined but in this case everyone’s character was equally important. The aunt and mum of Mok Hae Won surprised me in the later episodes, they had their own interesting story. I also like the way how Mok Hae Won’s family appeared cold towards each other. They didn’t like to talk about feelings which is okay because in reality some people are just like that.

The top leads. There’s no denying that our top leads are both good looking. Not just that, they’re brilliant actors as well. But what I enjoyed most is the strong chemistry between Park Min Young and Seo Kang Joon. When this is ticked, then the kissing scenes are awesome.

Perfectly conveyed feelings. Another amazing job done was conveying those sometimes unimaginable feelings. How could you show it on TV? This was thanks to a combination of good acting and I would say directing.

Consistent mood. The picturisque scenes (a combination of beautiful countryside and dramatic seasons), the warm atmosphere of the bookstore despite the thick snow of the outside word, the cold feel of the Hodu house where people as cold as ice live, the simple and somewhat happy lifestyle in a small town, the camaraderie between people, and so on. It was somehow very appealing to me.

The focus on books. I love how this drama promoted reading books and even just the existence of books in general. We live in a digital time when we can get information easily online. Books are somewhat no longer a thing. Well, think again, there’s something in books than just the information it gives. They bring people together. We sometimes forget that, don’t we?

I also love that every episode is a title of a book in the drama (if you’ve noticed). I particularly like The Maze of Sisterfield! That episode unfolded a lot of secrets.

The OST. It brings back memories of old dramas which had songs sounding like these… Like A Winter’s Dream and All day Long.

Favorite Quote. “You would rather not see the sunshine with the fear of losing it”.

The Ending. One word, beautiful!

Dislikes: Can’t think of one.

My Rating: 8.5 stars! (10 as highest)

Are-You-Human-Too kdramaSummary:  Nam Shin 3 is a very advanced robot created by the brilliant scientist Dr. Oh to replace her son the real Nam Shin whose been separated from her since he was young. When Nam Shin falls into coma, Nam Shin 3 has to replace him to act on his behalf as the director of the company the real Nam Shin will have to inherit. Nam Shin 3 is doing fantastic in his job and he even gets close to the lady bodyguard, Kang So Bong.

Trailer: Are You Human Too?

Genre: Science Fiction, Mystery, Romance
Episodes: 36 (35 minutes/episode)
Stars: Seo Kang Joon as Nam Shin / Nam Shin III
Gong Seung Yun as Kang So Bong

Likes: I never expected this futuristic drama will turn out so good! First impression was… okay, big budget with all the explosions and actions in the first few episodes. But as it progressed, I was starting to think it was getting more exciting. In fact very exciting that it surpassed What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim which I was watching in parallel.

What do I like most? The story is great although at first I wasn’t sure it will focus on the human Nam Shin or the robot. When I was kind of  certain about the main character, my curiousity increased on how they will pull off a good ending. And I’m glad they did!

I like the positive introduction of AI to humans. Not the usual “robots taking over the human world”. Well, this is kdrama afterall :)! If all robots will be as good-looking, gentle (in most occasions), intelligent, diligent and very human-like and I think the future is bright! I won’t say no to another Seo Kang Joon robot look-alike!

The Cast is brilliant! Everyone did a great job in their roles but I think my praises will go mostly to these 4 people…

Seo Kang Joon as Nam Shin and Nam Shin 3 – applause to this guy for making it to my crush list. Well, it’s already a long list but he’s somewhere on the top right now! He fairly deserves it as he was brilliant in this double role! Seo Kang Joon proves that he’s not just a pretty face like any current or former kpop idols, he’s a great actor as well. I’m impressed of this handsome young man! His looks on the other hand is flawless! Well, really just like a robot! I love both roles and I think Seo Kang Jooon did so well as the arrogant, hot-tempered, rebellious and handsome human Nam Shin, as well as the gentle, smiling, thoughtful, strong, hero-like and perfectly handsome Nam Shin 3! Simply excellent performance in these two contrasting characters!

Gong Seung Yun as Kang So Bong – her role came out very annoying in the beginning but in the later episodes she proved to be well-deserving of the top lead post. Gong Seung Yun was perfect for this role, I can’t imagine any other actress doing this. I love her looks… sturdy but sexy with a beautiful face. I also love how she talked and pronounced words. She was lovable in the drama that even robots fell for her :). Most importantly, her chemistry with Seo Kang Joon was awesome!

Lee Joon Hyuk as Ji Young Hoon – he was the right hand of Nam Shin, the Hyung in this drama! Although, it was a supporting role, it’s hard not to notice him. His presence is dominating, maybe because of his handsome face or his acting or maybe both.

Yoo Oh Sung as Seo Jong Gil – the annoying almost-father-in-law and CEO of the company who wanted to take over everything! Yeah this guy. He was so annoyingly good! Always eavesdropping on important conversations! Such a bully really. If he made me annoyed, it just proved he’s a good actor, that there is no doubt.

Cheesy scenes and dialogues. What are my favourites?

  • When Kang So Bong heard her own heart beating so loud and fast, she thought it was Nam Shin 3 but then he said, “I have no heart.” 🙂
  • Nam Shin 3 hugs everyone who was crying ! *Love*
  • The wink reflex when someone is lying. It was so cute especially when he says, “Koejitmal!” 😉 .
  • When Nam Shin 3 tried to understand what Love is and he pulls out the dictionary definition: “A chemical process!”
  • Wrist-grabbed by a jealous robot. Yay!
  • The first kiss! When Nam Shin 3 relied on the net on how to say NO to a girl. Well, grab another girl and kiss her 🙂 .

The Ending. I was really hoping they won’t mess up the ending and I’m glad they didn’t resulting to me giving a high rating for this one. For a moment, I thought they would settle with the human Nam Shin but when Nam Shin 3′ s identity was finally revealed, yay future is brighter :-). But then unfortunate things happen and my favourite Nam Shin 3 got shot a number of times (I love that scene! Reminds of Day6 Shoot Me video), sank in the water and took forever to have him repaired or was he not? Watch the drama if you haven’t ;-). The very ending was so *LOVE* !

Dislikes: Some characters in the beginning were just so unreasonably annoying. A few holes in the story but can be ignored.

My Rating: 9 stars! (10 as highest)

hwajung kdramaSummary: It’s a story of how Princess JungMyung, daughter of King Seonjo survived and lived through the reigns of 3 kings; King Gwanghae, King Injo and King Hyojong during her lifetime. With her powerful influence she managed to defeat strong political enemies like Lee Yi Chum, Kim Ja Jeom and Kang Joo Sun.

Genre: Period, Political, Romance
Episodes: 50
Stars: Cha Seung Won as Prince Gwanghae
Lee Yeon Hee as Princess Jungmyung
Kim Jae Won as King Injo
Seo Kang Joon as Hong Joo Won
Han Joo Wan as Kang In Woo
Jo Sung Ha as Kang Joo Sun
Jung Woong In as Lee Yi Chum
Jo Min Ki as Kim Ja Jeom

Likes: During the whole tenure of the drama, I’ve been going back and forth wikipedia and some other sites and blogs related to the historical background of the drama and I say they come very close to some historical facts and the existence of important characters throughout the drama.

Princess Jungmyung – though she really existed during the time, her fierce character as what was portrayed in the drama didn’t probably hold the truth. But as the ominous princess in the drama, she shone through an entire generation that spanned through reigns 3 kings. Her power and  influence that shake the most powerful political enemies and even kings themselves put her in a position that no female royalty could probably attain during that era. Her love story with then husband Hong Joo Won is a lovely kdrama touch in this serious splendid political drama.

Gwanghae vs King Injo – I’m all for Gwanghae. Though not even given the King title but he was definitely more reasonable than his successor.  He was always willing to sacrifice (specially his pride) all for the sake of his country and people’s safely. During his reign he achieved a lot and manage to avoid possible wars. King Injo on the other hand was portrayed in this drama as lacking, insecure and even cowardly.
Actors Cha Seung Won and Kim Jae Won are both superb choices for the roles.

Most powerful political enemies…

Kang Joo Sun – he’s got to be on top of this list for he was already active even Gwanghae’s time. Powerful and wealthy, former mayor and palace official, he controlled the businesses in Joseon. He had connections to Ming and later Qing. Owned several houses with private armies. This guy was definitely deadly!

Kim Ja Jeom – a master of manipulation. He made King Injo his puppet. Basically ruling the country during King Injo’s reign. He worked hand in hand with Jo Yeo Jung (Consort Jo) , definitely a deadly tandem!

Consort Jo – Joseon’s deadliest lady. Rumored to have poisoned crown prince Sohyeon, son of King Injo and the heir to the throne. A favorite of the King and Kim Ja Jeom behind her back, she could do whatever she wanted.

Lee Yi Chum – his greed for wealth and  political power lead him to do the deadliest acts. He was behind the murder of crown prince Yeongchang.

Kim Kae Shi – her words are valued by Gwanghae. She does everything, poison here and there just to keep her precious Gwanghae on the throne. She was the ears and eyes of the palace. She just knew everything!

This drama has lots of heavy crying moments. Not that I like crying but they were so well-acted and convincing, you get to appreciate the whole sad scenario.

Dramatic exits, lots of them too but the most memorable was King Injo’s. I thought he already died (death bed scene already shown) but next scene he still managed to scold his officials and officially declare Hyojong the next King!

Favorite quote: “Once you sit here, you will also suffocate from its weight.” King Injo to his son King Hyojong.

Ending is a justification why King Hyojong had a hard time ruling.  Always staying close to historical facts.

Dislikes: The last 2 episodes were weak.  It  lost its momentum though the ending was okay.

Dirturbing lighting. So disappointed with this. There were indoor scenes that appeared like a 50’s movie with too much lighting directly on the faces. Just poor.

They casted someone who looks like she had too much botox on the face. That doesn’t match Joseon era.

After 10 years…. then, after 8 years… the men just grew beared but didn’t get wrinkled. Our princess still looked the same 18 years later!

My Rating: 8.5 stars! (10 as highest)

cunning single lady kdramaSummary: After 3 years from getting divorced, Na Ae Ra found out that her ex-husband has become successful and is currently the CEO of his own IT company. In order to get his attention, she grabbed a job as an intern at his company.

Genre: Romantic Comedy
Episodes: 16
Stars: Lee Min Jung as Na Ae Ra
Joo Sang Wook as Cha Jung Woo
Kim Kyu Ri as Gook Yeo Jin
Seo Kang Joon as Gook Seung Hyun

Likes: Chemistry! Lee Min Jung and Joo Sang Wook’s chemistry was undeniably strong and so as the characters they were playing. Lee Min Jung’s character Na Ae Ra clicked with both men. So no matter who she’d end up to, I would see it as a happy end. Of course I was leaning towards the CEO but Seung Hyun got really handsome when he later became the Director ;).

Lee Min Jung is hot and sexy in this drama! She looks great with long hair but the short do reminds me of her Ha Jae Kyung character in BOF, pretty and smart!

Joo Sang Wook as leading man of course! I’ve watched That Fool and Good Doctor and I thought I really want to see him as the lead. Although his character transformation here was a bit over the top, it really was fun watching him as the perfect-looking CEO. I always wondered what he would wear next ;).

It definitely is a romantic comedy. It brought some giggles on this cold, winter days!

I’ve watched a variety of kdrama genre the past months but watching a typical kdrama (romcom) with a happy ending brings me back to those days when I just started. This was really the type I liked to watch in the beginning. It’s good but… (refer to dislikes)

Dislikes: Yes it’s good but it can get really boring. You already know what’s coming or what’s going to happen next. There’s no challenge and thrill.

The presence of annoying relatives always irritates me. Leads take all the blame when relatives do something stupid.

My Rating: 7.5 stars! (10 as highest)
