Likes: So much to love about this drama…

The Storyline. It’s definitely not your everyday kdrama. The storyline is super intricate, you’ve got to pay attention to every details. At the start, it was quite chaotic for me. Some stories started at the same time without the clear connections. You’ve got to wait for more episodes to get a better overview. But once you’ve got them all together, what a solid story you’d get. I like it that they divided it into 3 parts which helped a lot to better understand the complexity of the story.

The Worlds. There were a lot of worlds and all the main worlds were nicely presented in details. I got so immersed into the once peaceful and beautiful world of the Iark region with the tribes all living in harmony. Couldn’t help fantasizing on those vast, lush and green lands. Do they still even exist in our world? Well, probably not. The bustling, congested but advanced world of Arthdal is like our big cities, right? Crammed up but people would still want to live and be part of it. The worlds in this drama may look different but actually very similar to our own. We all could relate.

The People. Same with worlds, the people reflect our own different nationalities, races, religion, beliefs and skills. We’ve got the Arthdal people which were the most advance in politics, economics, metal works, construction and even medicine. They iradicated  the Neanthal people, who were very strong but lacking the ambition. They controlled a lot of remote tribes and conquered some of them bringing those people back to Arthdal to be slaves. Does it sound so familiar to you? Within the world and the people of Arthdal, everyone seemed to struggle to be the most powerful because only then you’d get things done.

The Languages. Although most spoke Korean, there were other languages spoken in this drama. I don’t know if they were Korean dialects or just made-up ones but they all sounded wonderful! I love the Neanthal language, it was so exotic! The Momo tribe spoke an own language as well that made Xabara (their leader) looked even cuter :-).

Titles and Gestures. I minded this a lot. I love the way the Arthdal people greeted their leaders and would mention the Niruha title after the names like Sanung Niruha, Tagon Niruha, Tanya Niruha. I don’t know what it exactly means but it for sure commanded highest hierarchy.

Cultures, Traditions and Beliefs. So beautiful to see the unique cultures and traditions of each tribe but then somehow they were all bounded by a similar belief.

The Brilliant Cast

Song Joong Ki as Eun Sum / Saya – He’s undeniably a great actor. I love his portrayal of Eun Sum, an honest, simple-minded being who has a big heart to always help others. He looked really good buffed but still with a pretty face. Eun Sum’s chemistry with Tanya was pretty top. Now, as Saya, damn, he was just so sexy! His beautiful face, although I would say, even prettier than the female lead, still commands masculinity. Loved Saya’s devious personality, it made him stood out.

Jang Dong Gun as Ta Gon – I thought this was JDG’s best role yet. It suited him so well… the looks, the personality, his war hero character, his Igutu blood weakness, everything really, even the costume! Undoubtedly, he was the star of the show, well, at least in this season (if there’s gonna be another one).

Kim Ji Won as Tan Ya – She did well as Tan Ya. I love her compassionate character and her rising into a powerful figure was something I enjoyed to watch.

Kim Ok Bin as Tae Ha – Now this lady was just so impressive. First time to see her in a drama and I was just impressed by her superb acting. Tae Ha was an intelligent and powerful lady which made her the perfect match for Tagon and I think Kim Ok Bin delivered that role very well.

Dislikes: Two things only and that made this drama dropped 2 levels from being a perfect 10. First, I dislike the time gap when they were showing the third part. I was so immersed when I was watching the first 2, then I had to wait for a month. I didn’t have that same interest and excitement when I was continuing. Now for the second reason. There was basically no ending since it was originally made with more season in thought. What a disappointment! I don’t think I would ever see a proper ending to this knowing the drama didn’t do well in the ratings.

My Rating: 9 stars! (10 as highest)

Descendants-of-the-Sun kdramaSummary: Capt Yoo Shi Jin, a member of the Korean special force met the very pretty and talented surgeon Kang Mo Yun at the hospital where the latter was working. Trying to have a date with a soldier was almost impossible but their fate to be together got sealed when both were assigned in a far away, post-war country called Urk. Meanwhile the captain’s close comrade Sgt. Seo is having a complicated relationship with their commander’s daughter, Yoon Myung Joo.

Genre: Melodrama, Romance, Medical
Episodes: 16
Stars: Song Joong Ki as Capt. Yoo Shi Jin
Song Hye Kyo as Prof. Kang Mo Yun
Jin Goo as Senior Seo Dae Young
Kim Ji Won as Surgeon Yoon Myung Joo

Likes: Okay, where do I begin?! Let’s start with our leads… all 4 pretty and handsome leads!

Song Joong Ki – this is definitely his most popular role, hallyu-star worthy! He was well-toned, pretty as usual, playful and teasing and most of all, top-looking in uniform. You add the shades and the snubbish attitude, he definitely rocked in this drama!

Song Hye Kyo – very pretty but tough and smart. This lady has got what it takes to be the girlfriend of the Alpha company’s Big Boss! Even with her pretty face, she survived an earthquake and saved many in a not-so-friendly place.

Jin Goo – new face that left a big impression. The very charismatic Sgt Seo who has a complicated relationship with the general’s daughter (Take note of the last words. That can be pretty tough in the military). Great-looking in uniform, perfect complexion, serious face – almost like a soldier.

Kim Ji Won – another pretty leading lady. The general’s daughter. Sgt Seo object of affection. A uniformed surgeon. I can’t blame Sgt Seo for falling in love with her.

We have 2 teams, Shi Jin – Mo Yun team and Dae Young – Myung Joo team! So which team are you?!

Shi Jin & Mo Yun team – these 2 started unsure. They couldn’t make it to their dates due to Shi Jin’s military duty. In fact Mo Yun got stood up twice (which wasn’t actually too bad, it just made Shi Jin more attractive). But when they started going out, it involved beautiful sceneries and even dangerous minefields :). I would rate the couple’s chemistry 8 out of 10. They’re kissing scenes were always beautiful (with beautiful backdrops). My favorite was the last one of course when they were back at the shipwreck.  Most dramatic moment was when Mo Yun found Shi Jin, covered in blood in an ambulance.

Dae Young & Myung Joo –  hm complicated relationship. Her dad not in favor and that was a big problem but it made the two more inseparable. Friendship history as Myung Joo helped Dae Young at his ex’s wedding. Both are in uniforms which is favorable as both understand each other’s jobs well. Couple’s chemistry is 9 out of 10, a win for this couple. Their kissing scenes were always touching and dramatic (made me cry). Most dramatic moment was when Myung Joo was found to be positive with a virus and Dae Young rushed to hug her.

I have to mention how truly beautiful the sceneries were. Urk is a made-up place and it was in Greece where they shot most of the scenes. I would recommend to visit Greece as I’ve seen the place myself. Beautiful blue sky and water with fantastic lanscapes!

The most famous greeting in the military world that’s probably taking the civilian world by storm: Dankyeol! (which means unity or solidarity) It sounds very sexy now thanks to this drama :).

The OST is amazing! These are my favorites songs from the drama… enjoy!
You are my Everything by Gummy
Everytime by Chen (EXO) featuring Xpunch
Always by Yoon Mi Rae
Once Again by Mad Clown featuring Kim Na Young
Talk Love by K.Will

Great slow motion scenes like when the hospital team arrived in Urk and the Capt (who was really looking great in uniform plus sunglasses) and company showed up but Capt snubbed Mo Yun big time. Ouch!

Funniest moment is I think Yo Shi Jin who was thought to be a ghost by the lady doctor’s colleagues.

Heartbreaking moment – those goodbye letters were so cruel. Sob sob sob! Mo Yun got one and too bad she read it. Lucky for Myung Joo who insisted not to open hers.

Most patriotic moment – the flag retreat scene!

Great villain and hero awards go to Argus and our north korean warrior. Dankyeol!

Cameo by Lee Kwang Soo,  Yoo Ah In and Red Velvet. At least these the famous personalities I know.

Call signs!!! Which one is your favorite? Piccolo, Snoopy, Yellow Tiger, Wolf, Big Boss or Beauty?

Even with 16 episodes only, they were somewhat running out of good stories and the mood was getting quite serious so it was really great that they could pull off a funny last episode. It made the soldiers happy and I think it made everyone happy too! And of course, we got our Red Velvet performance in the end.

Dislikes: They should say everything in Korean. It sounds cooler than Song Joong Ki trying to sound cool in English. It’s painful everytime that I always have to close my eyes.

Kang Mo Yun nags a lot. It was becoming a turn off.

My Rating: 9 stars! (10 as highest)

innocent man kdramaSummary: An innocent young man admits to the crime of his then girlfriend who dumped him for her own ambition. To take revenge, he takes advantage of the love of an heir to a large company who’s suffering from amnesia.

Genre: Romance, Melodrama
Episodes: 20
Stars: Song Joong Ki as Kang Ma Roo
Moon Chae Won as Seo Eun Gi
Park Si Yeon as Han Jae Hee

Likes: Song Joong Ki! I wanted to see another drama from him after watching Sunkyunkwan Scandal.
Good actors! First time to see Moon Chae Won, I love her!
I love the intro! SJK in black holding that watch plus a catchy background music!
Hands down to the stylist of this drama. Love the outfits specially Park Si Yeon’s!
The ending though lacking is not that bad!

Dislikes: Song Joong Ki’s character is not for him. Too melancholic for that beautiful face.
Song Joong Ki’s too young-looking for Moon Chae Won. Though I love both actors, the chemistry wasn’t just there, sorry.
They could have done better with the script. Too black and white! Hero’s too nice that he’s stupid and villain, too evil that she’s the smartest.
Heavily advertised Samsung Galaxy Note, lol!

My Rating: 7 stars! (10 as highest)

So many pretty boys here, gosh!
Special mention to Song Joong Ki’s acting! He was just great!
I love the ending very much!

Dislikes: I like Park Min Young but I think she was too pretty for the role. Oh well, they’re all pretty!
The end of the drama reminds me of school graduation, so sad that it has to end.
