Likes: This is another great fantasy drama to love this year! A mermaid falling in love with a human is sure will capture everyone’s attention but adding a parallel story which happened during the Joseon era which is slowly giving answers, unraveling the mystery of the present time adds to the mystic of the whole show. It’s simply a beautiful, quite well-done story-telling!
We’ve got two of the most sought actors in Korea doing the show so this makes its anticipation quite high. But how did they do? Quite well, I would say. Lee Min Ho and Jun Ji Hyun’s chemistry was just over the top! The two were relaxed and comfortable with each other. And both are extremely good-looking!
Lee Min Ho – though his English pronunciation is still the same, his Joseon accent has improved a lot. Gorgeous in whatever he wears in this drama, he had the chance to showcase his huge wardrobe. Of course, he looked prim and proper in his Joseon outfit but his fashionable outfits in the presents days were outrageous, he looked every inch a model! He’s obviously younger than the leading lady but he successfully able to develop that strong chemistry with her.
Jun Ji Hyun – she’s intimidatingly beautiful and fashionable! Very natural in acting as if she’s just acting herself. She’s quite funny as well but what impressed me more were her underwater scenes. Very graceful and comfortable in water. She might have used a double with the mermaid outfit but did obviously some water scenes. Impressive!
The breathtaking worlds we have in this drama…
The Joseon period – beautiful mountain and coastal sceneries but my most favorite is when they released the lanterns. It looks so romantic!
The underwater world of Sim Chung the mermaid – colourful corals and caves, the water world is just wonderful!
The Spanish charming towns – the first few episodes were shot in Spain showcasting the beauty of the place. Scenic coastal views, beaches, beautiful town architecture add to the romantic feel of the show.
The present Seoul – shot in winter season, a very cold Seoul becomes the place of our lovebirds. Namsan tower, skiing place, even the beach side is full of snow. Brrr, cold but ramained romantic, thanks to our hot couple!
The outfits! Everyone is very fashionable. Well-chosen outfits for every character. Lee Min Ho was very fashionable here especially that he had to change into several outfits due the nature of his job. But I was always looking forward to what Jun Ji Hyun was wearing. This lady can wear everything and will still look great!
The kiss scenes! All of them are good. I took note of them all and surprisingly always labeled it the first kiss. It’s how good every kiss was! But boy, that one french kiss that says all… so passionate, so sexy and so sad as it was saying goodbye. Never seen Lee Min Ho kissed like that.
Most funny scenes! I was mostly entertained by these two…
- Hae Joon Jae hearing whatever Sim Chung was thinking.
- Shi Ah thinking Tae Oh really is in love with her.
A family of villains! And they were great villains. Transcending their villainous fate from the Joseon period to the present day Seoul.
Happy ending. I’m glad Shi Ah had her happy ending after desperately chasing Hae Joon Jae for years. The notorious family of villain was brought to justice. Joon Jae finally reunited with his mum. And lastly, after 3 years, Sim Chung coming back healthy to her Joon Jae after recuperating under the sea.
Dislikes: It has uncanny similarity to Goblin. Too bad Goblin ended first so that kind of spoiled the ending for me.
This drama made it to the Top 15 Kdrama in 2017. Watch video…
