Hotel King

hotel king kdramaSummary: Cha Jae Wan, the manager of Hotel Ciel had a dark past. He grew up being manipulated by a powerful man and only believing that his tragic beginning was caused by the owner of the hotel and that he has to avenge himself. After getting to know the heiress of the hotel, things started to change and painful truths slowly unfolded.

Genre: Melodrama, Romance, Revenge, Chaebol
Episodes: 32
Stars: Lee Dong Wook as Cha Jae Wan
Lee Da Hae as Ah Mo Ne
Im Seul Ong as Sun Woo Hyun
Wang Ji Hye as Song Chae Kyung
Lee Duk Hwa as Lee Joong Goo
Kim Hae Sook as Baek Mi Nyeo
Jin Tae Hyun as Roman Lee

Likes: Highly anticipated reunion of my favorite My Girl leads. It’s been a while and these two didn’t age a bit.

The characters and their dirty secrets. I love the way they all got revealed in the end. It was a surprise for Cha Jae
Wan’s real father to know that he was actually the father. It was terrible for Jae Wan’s mother to know that he was actually his mother. And it was just tragic for the poor boy, Jae Wan to know who his both parents are. Terrible truth!

The setting. It has a very European feel and hotel looks very grand. Did some bits of research, it’s the Intercontinental Alpensia Resort.

Best actress award goes to Baek Mi Nyeo for giving justice to her challenging character. She always does so always
watch out for her.

So many pretty faces but Wang Ji Hye is a new found for me.

Have to give credit to the stylist. Everyone looked great but my favorite is the very classy style of Chae Kyung played by Wang Ji Hye.

Dislikes: I just didn’t feel the old chemistry between the leads. Was that because they both looked like frozen dolls?
Lee Dong Wook was too thin and Lee Da Hae looked so operated to me.

The atmosphere was dull. The hotel always looked empty. They could have added some more extras to have that realistic atmosphere of a popular and well-sought hotel.

Some annoying sidekicks. Shouldn’t have focused too much on them.

The ending was okay.

My Rating: 7 stars! (10 as highest)

You’re All Surrounded

you're all surrounded kdramaSummary: Four newly hired young detectives at Gangnam Police Station are making waves with solving difficult and exciting
cases. They’re under a very hard-working team leader who’s grooming them to be great detectives.

Genre: Action, Romantic Comedy, Detective
Episodes: 20
Stars: Lee Seung Ki as Eun Dae Gu
Cha Seung Won as Seo Pan Suk
Go Ah Ra as Yeo Soo Sun
Ahn Jae Hyun as Park Tae Il
Park Jung Min as Ji Gook

Likes: The script – It’s a well-written one. You might have heard of the story several times but how it was told is the secret why this drama is sooo good. It’s packed with some interesting story twists which always comes as great surprises. Also I like the way each character and scene were justified and explained through random flashbacks. Made me always comment, ah that’s why. Definitely well done!

The actors – great cast though I was after Cha Seung Won who always doesn’t disappoint me with his sexiness, looks and natural acting; the others were also worth the mention. Lee Seung Ki – it always takes me a while to like him but in the end, I always do. Go Ah Ra – she definitely nails the character. Park Jung Min – cute and funny. Ahn Jae Hyun – I thought I would see him soon after Man from the Stars. Such a pretty face!

The director – The credit for the snappiness of this drama goes to the person who tells everyone what to do. Even if you have a great cast but if the directing is bad and makes the acting awkward, the drama comes out sloppy. Lee Seung Ki and Cha Seung Won are important enough to be under a wing of a good director.

I love the 2 main couples. Very well matched! Dae Gu and Soo Sun – cute, young, unpredictable love! Pan Suk and Sa Kyung – both sexy, divorced couple who are finding love again. With all the serious cases they have to solve, these characters will still definitely make you giddy.

Funny! There was always something funny. May it be the awkwardness between lovers and colleagues or the way Cha Seung Won laughs.

Notable villain. Gosh she was sooo annoying!

Other side stories that kept the drama interesting. These stories were also very well integrated.

Favorite scene: the funeral of the lady chief when everyone was wearing their uniforms. Cha Seung Won definitely stood out!!!

Just love the ending! Everything was good. Our legendary team leader still true to his profession even in the countryside :).

Dislikes: I just thought the way they caught the mastermind was silly. For someone who masterminded a perfect crime could fall for a simple confession in the end. Oh well, maybe it was really his time. He was getting annoying anyway.

My Rating: 8.5 stars! (10 as highest)

Angel Eyes

angel eyes kdramaSummary:  The story of a blind girl who gained back her eyesight but lost her first love. After 12 years, he was back and she was in love with him again but dark secrets would stop them from being together.

Genre: Romance, Melodrama, Medical, Family
Episodes: 20
Stars: Lee Sang Yoon as as Park Dong Joo
Koo Hye Sun as Yoon Soo Wan
Kim Ji Suk as Kang Ji Woon
Jung Jin Young as Yoon Jae Bum
Jung Ae Ri as Oh Young Ji
Seung Ri as Teddy Seo

Likes: If you like a good cry then this drama is for you. It’s definitely one of the best melodrama I’ve watched so far. The story was sad, no maybe even tragic and that was well-conveyed to the audience. Plus Koo Hye Sun’s crying was always convincing, you just want to cry with her. Lee Sang Yoon, aside from his admirable looks (height, very proportional body and a handsome face with a dimple) is really great in crying too. These 2 leads were convincingly good on being sad :).

I thought this drama was getting draggy but I think it’s actually made that way. Everything was so detailed, from the prologue (2 episodes with the young Dong Joo and Soo Wan and these youngs characters were from time to time appearing throughout the drama), the main story and to the epilogue which was 1.5 episode long. As if writers explained in detail what pain and heartache really are and they would want you to understand that.

The “what if story”! As I’ve said it was too detailed they even show what would happen if … All happy and my favorite is of course the wedding scene!

I love the characters of the 2 leads (so as the actors). It’s good that they got great young actors who are comparable (to the main leads) to portray the young Dong Joo and Soo Wan. Young Soo Wan especially looks like young Koo Hye Sun.

As for the other guy, Kim Ji Suk looks great here. He definitely gave Lee Sang Yoon a good competition. Hm, 2 great guys competing for our good old Jan Di, huh!

The presence of Seungri! It’s always fantastic baby! He was definitely the best comical relief in this drama.

It’s good to see another island getting featured. A good break from our favorite Jeju.

Not necessary but I’d like to mention I really like Soo Wan’s lovely house! From the story, it’s understandable why she doesn’t like to go back. Too many sad memories.

Love the OST specially the “run run running to you” song :). Couldn’t help but sang-a-long everytime it was played.

Dislikes: The ending. I would like it just a little bit different.

My Rating: 8 stars! (10 as highest)

3 Days

3 days kdramaSummary: After saving the President of South Korea from an assassination, Han Tae Kyung, a secret agent is finding out more dirty secrets of the people behind the assassination. Together with some others who remained loyal to the President, they’ll all work to have the master mind captured.

Genre: Action, Thriller, Melodrama, Political, Romance, Crime
Episodes: 16
Stars: Park Yoo Chun as Han Tae Kyung
Son Hyun Joo as Lee Dong Whi
Park Ha Sun as Yoon Bo Won
So Yi Hyun as Lee Cha Young
Choi Won Young as Kim Do Jin
Yoon Je Moon as Shin Kyu Jin
Jang Hyun Sung as Ham Bong Soo

Likes: Great action from the most well-dressed and best looking secret agents in the world. Forget about the agents protecting the American Presidents :), they probably have to work  on the fittings of their suits first. This is kdrama afterall, it’s expected and well it’s really fun to watch how well-groomed Korean agents are. From the hair, the suits, the shoes, the casual attire, all perfect! Even when they were laying on the ground dead.

Looks like a big budget with lots of explosions! Makes it more realistic.

Great villain! I’d say so. He was pissing me off big time really. Thanks to the actor, Choi Won Young for doing a great job. His facial expressions were the best.

The President’s face always shows this emotion which I can’t help but sympatize with him. Another great acting!

I love the lady constable, I think she’s beautiful. Her beauty suits with the role. Not so cute, not so pretty.

The ending was quite bloody but glad it ended up nicely.

Dislikes: I like PYC but not in this kind of drama. I hope he’ll do sageuk soon.

A desperate attempt to have a love story between our main agent and the lady constable. Hm, really there’s no need to.

So Yi Hyun as Lee Cha Young is too pretty for the role. It’s soo distracting to have that prettiness working for the secret agency.

The story wasn’t that bad, just having lots of holes. And always what a waste of bombs. Exploding where there’s no one  getting hurt.

My Rating: 7.5 stars! (10 as highest)

Cunning Single Lady

cunning single lady kdramaSummary: After 3 years from getting divorced, Na Ae Ra found out that her ex-husband has become successful and is currently the CEO of his own IT company. In order to get his attention, she grabbed a job as an intern at his company.

Genre: Romantic Comedy, Rich Boy Poor Girl, Boss Romance
Episodes: 16
Stars: Lee Min Jung as Na Ae Ra
Joo Sang Wook as Cha Jung Woo
Kim Kyu Ri as Gook Yeo Jin
Seo Kang Joon as Gook Seung Hyun

Likes: Chemistry! Lee Min Jung and Joo Sang Wook’s chemistry was undeniably strong and so as the characters they were playing. Lee Min Jung’s character Na Ae Ra clicked with both men. So no matter who she’d end up to, I would see it as a happy end. Of course I was leaning towards the CEO but Seung Hyun got really handsome when he later became the Director ;).

Lee Min Jung is hot and sexy in this drama! She looks great with long hair but the short do reminds me of her Ha Jae Kyung character in BOF, pretty and smart!

Joo Sang Wook as leading man of course! I’ve watched That Fool and Good Doctor and I thought I really want to see him as the lead. Although his character transformation here was a bit over the top, it really was fun watching him as the perfect-looking CEO. I always wondered what he would wear next ;).

It definitely is a romantic comedy. It brought some giggles on this cold, winter days!

I’ve watched a variety of kdrama genre the past months but watching a typical kdrama (romcom) with a happy ending brings me back to those days when I just started. This was really the type I liked to watch in the beginning. It’s good but… (refer to dislikes)

Dislikes: Yes it’s good but it can get really boring. You already know what’s coming or what’s going to happen next. There’s no challenge and thrill.

The presence of annoying relatives always irritates me. Leads take all the blame when relatives do something stupid.

My Rating: 7.5 stars! (10 as highest)

Emergency Couple

emergency couple kdramaSummary: After some years, a divorced couple meet each other  as medical interns in the same hospital. Both have to fulfill their dreams, find peace and maybe love in the chaotic ER world.

Genre: Romantic Comedy, Medical
Episodes: 21
Stars: Song Ji Hyo as Oh Jin Hee
Choi Jin Hyuk as Oh Chang Min
Lee Pil Mo as Gook Chun Soo
Choi Yeo Jin as Shim Ji Hye
Clara as Han Ah Reum

Likes: Divorced couple falling back in love again seems to be the trend this year. It’s different from the usual, I like it! Korea is definitely breaking free from the conservative and traditional ways, which is not all bad if in the end it’s for the best of the individual. Aside from divorce, this drama also shows a strong single mom and a confident young intern characters which again a sign of an open-minded society.

Lots of funny moments! It’s more comedy than the serious ER drama.

Was looking forward to a Choi Jin Hyuk-lead drama after watching Gu Family Book and The Heirs.

I love Chun Soo’s character and I think Lee Pil Mo did a great job portraying him! He’s this brilliant doctor who’s just all work, very private, cold but then became soo cute when he’s falling in love!

I think Shim Ji Hye is just great! Very confident in acting!

Certified happy ending! I think it’s the kind of ending everyone loves.

Dislikes: I just didn’t really warm up to Song Ji Hyo and the character Oh Jin Hee eventhough she got prettier in the end. Then of course the chemistry between her and Choi Jin Hyuk wasn’t really there.

Why is it always attractive to guys in dramas when the ladies drink too much?!

My Rating: 7.5 stars! (10 as highest)

God’s Gift – 14 Days

god's gift kdramaSummary: 2 people went back in time exactly 14 days before the death of their loved ones. One is a mother who will try to save  her daughter from getting murdered and the other one is the brother of a prisoner who’s going to be hung.

Genre: Action, Melodrama, Crime, Thriller, Time-travel, Detective
Episodes: 16
Stars: Lee Bo Young as Kim Soo Hyun
Cho Seung Woo as Ki Dong Chan
Kim Tae Woo as Han Ji Hoon
Jung Gyu Woon as Hyun Woo Jin
Kim Yoo Bin as Han Sa Byul

Likes: I love time-travel, it’s always interesting. So interesting I stopped watching the other drama I was watching with this one to see quickly what would happen in the end.

Every episode is a thrill! New mysteries kept pouring in and you just can’t stop to watch. Great cliffhangers as well!

That emotion throughout the drama that has been successfully carried out so parents like me feel the same thing when losing a child or about to lose one. So moms out there, watch your kids like a hawk!

Best acting goes to Lee Bo Young and Cho Seung Woo! I got to like LBY from I Hear your Voice, she was great in her role as a lawyer. In this drama, she proves to be a great actress by portraying a totally different character, that of a desperate parent trying to save her child. And Cho Seung Woo, what can I say, you’ll love him as an actor but you’ll love him more in his character as Dong Chan! He was great!

Dislikes: I got spoilt watching the great villains of Empress Ki that I found the ones in this drama to be mediocre, not scary at all. Though it took time to know who the perpetrators were, revelation didn’t really make an impact.

It was a pain to watch Jung Gyu Woon act. Pretty face but lacking facial expression, so dull.

There were so many annoying situations in this drama like, why do you keep leaving your daughter with someone if you know she’s gonna die, argh!

I really don’t understand why Dong Chan died?! Yes I think he died (sorry fans).  Okay let’s say he really had to die but they could have at least give a good explanation! If the child survived, he really didn’t  have a reason to die in the end. Tah no sense at all!

My Rating: 7.5 stars! (10 as highest)
