Angel’s Last Mission: Love

angels last missionSummary: An angel messes up his last mission. Instead of taking the soul of a ballerina, he saves her from the brink of death. He is given though another chance, a mission to make the ballerina fall in love. However she is one difficult soul and that gives our angel a hard time. In the end, she falls in love but no other than with the angel himself.

Trailer: Angel’s Last Mission: Love

Genre: Romance, Fantasy, Supernatural, Rich Girl Poor Boy
Episodes: 32
Stars: Shin Hye Sun as Lee Yun Seo
L as Dan
Lee Dong Gun as Ji Kang Woo
Kim Bo Mi as Geum Ni Na

Likes: What a wonderful and graceful intro with our prima ballerina on the spotlight and our gorgeous angel looking good on all-white flapping his wings going for his next mission. It looked such a very promising fantasy drama I had been waiting for. But how did it fair for me? Let’s find out…

Beautiful story on how the soul of a young boy who went to heaven early and became an angel got reunited with the girl he liked when he was still alive. Their fate got entangled when he couldn’t resist saving the girl from the brink of death. As a punishment, cute as it may sound, he became part human and make the girl fall in love with somebody. It’s just cute, really.

I love the cast! Shin Hye Sun was awesome! Her role in this drama… a bratty, rich heir slash prima ballerina fits her so well. I wonder if she really is a ballerina. There were some dancing scenes when she didn’t require a double. Her lean physique looked like a top ballerina to me and she was so looking great in all her outfits, so intimadatingly rich! Her facial expression was always good, always full of emotion.

L’s acting improved a lot although he’s not yet there but it’s good to see him as a main lead. He looked too young for Shin Hye Sun at start but his appearance towards the end kind of improved, making him looked more mature and handsome especially when he was sad.

Lee Dong Gun’s series of supporting leads gives him an edge again. Honestly, he had more chemistry with Shin Hye Sun here. Especially during the scenes when they were still together in the story. I thought he connected so well with her.

Kim Bo Mi wasn’t that bad. She could dance too but found her too thin. Well, that fits her role well as someone who has an eating disorder.

The kissing scenes. I’ve got to admit, some were awkward but I love the final kiss of life. I thought that was beautiful. L was not looking too nervous when he did that so it went really so well.

The saving scene. I held my breath when she fell and I held it even more when Kim Dan appeared as an angel catching her from that fall. It was a beautiful scene! Well, everytime his wings were out, it became exciting!

Giselle. I loved it that they were so detailed with the show. It wasn’t just all practice but they actually really did a good performance on stage.

Angel’s Last Mission: Love OST. Beautiful songs! You’ve got some sad tunes but remember the drama is not a romantic comedy.

Love the ending! I didn’t want to ask a lot questions but I liked how it ended. It was good. A great compensation for all the tears I shed for this drama.

Dislikes: I don’t totally agree with how the writer perceived how all this divine providence works. Misleading for Christians like me but tried to come up with an objective review anyway. Didn’t want to make it complicated, it’s a kdrama afterall.

Weak villains.

Mr. Sunshine

He made it to the US and became an American soldier. He was then later assigned to Joseon for a mission then met the love of his life, ironically, a noble woman, Lady Go Ae Shin.

Trailer: Mr. Sunshine

Genre: Period, Romance, Rich Girl Poor Boy
Episodes: 24
Stars: Lee Byung Hun as Choi Yoo Jin / Eugene Choi
Kim Tae Ri as Go Ae Shin
Yoo Yun Suk as Goo Dong Mae
Kim Min Jung as Hee Na
Byun Yo Han as Kim Hee Sung

Likes: Beautiful story, top-notch cinematography and a brilliant cast! These are my main points to like this drama.

Tragically beautiful story – it has a Shakespeare feel to it, definitely. If you can’t stand Shakespeare, don’t watch this. I just love how this guy fled his own country in past for being unwanted and went back getting attracted to a person whose like, he who despised most. Sounds like Romeo and Juliet, eh? Nevertheless went to such length of sacrificing everything he had to help her and her cause. His story together with others were beautifully told in this drama so yes, a must watch.

Impressive cinematography –  a great scriptwriter paired with an equally great director, the outcome is a masterpiece! Every episode was a masterpiece especially when it comes to cinematography. Everything was picture-perfect! Lovely sceneries integrated beautifully in the story. A feast for the eyes!

Brilliant cast – yes, everyone was awesome! Let me begin with…

Lee Byung Hun as Eugene Choi – far from his usual sexy aura, LBH displayed calmness (but still) with a handsome face. He was a total good boy. He was the perfect guy for the lady if not because of his background. He looked great in uniform and a plus when he was riding a horse. I love his quiet personality and his eloquence when getting challenge. His fighting meter is high as he was good with guns!

Kim Tae Ri as Go Ae Shin – very young-looking for her role but I really love her voice. She had the command when she spoke which was perfect for her noble lady role. She always looked so pro when she held guns. Always looking beautiful and untouchable as a lady in Hanbok and mysterious in a black coat and hat.

Yoo Yun Suk as Goo Dong Mae – he was basically fearless, looked sexy in yukata and double samurai swords, the long hair rocked too. Of all the men having eyes on Lady Ae Sin, he had the most chemistry with her. Look at this guy who would kill just like that (blood splashing everywhere) then would look at a girl with an impossible longing that even just watching her from afar or touching her dress would be enough.

Kim Min Jung as Hee Na – the tigress hotel lady who had powerful connections that even the emperor was just a phone call away. Kind and generous to others in need but was not lucky with parents and lovelife. I love her strong personality, her fights, her honesty and loyalty. Kim Min Jung is a  good actress but of all her roles that I’ve watch, this one is my favourite.

Byun Yo Han as Kim Hee Sung – he had this positive disposition in life despite the hopelessness of the situation. He too was fighting but using the means that he was good at, writing. I love Byun Yo Han’s handsome face and his smile. He always gave a brighter mood whenever the situation became gloomy.

More bits and reasons to love the drama:

  • the awesome bromance between the three men: Eugene Choi, Goo Dong Mae and Kim Hee Sung
  • the impressive costumes
  • the set (with the tram and everything else)
  • the sceneries (the frozen river, the woods, the sea…)
  • the languages spoken in this drama (Joseon, Japanese, English, even French)
  • very good integration of sponsor (Paris Baguette)
  • how the title Mr Sunshine was explained
  • the cute misunderstanding of what LOVE is 🙂
  • how true it was to the conservativeness of those time
  • love the effects especially the explosion of the Glory Hotel – it was a Bang!
  • the Mr. Sunshine OST

Dislikes: I had too kdrama hopes with the ending and I was disappointed.

Lee Byung Hun and Kim Tae Ri are both brilliant actors but the chemistry between them two was just poor. As I mentioned above, she had a better chemistry with Yoo Yun Suk.

Wok Of Love

wok-of-love kdramaSummary: Seo Poong is a chef of a popular Chinese restaurant but got fired and ends up working in a small restaurant owned by a gangster boss, Chil Sung. He then meets Sae Woo, who used to be rich but is now desperately looking for a job and ends up in his newly open restaurant. Together, they work hard to get new customers and compete with the big Chinese restaurant across the street.

Trailer: Wok Of Love

Genre: Romance, Comedy, Boss Romance, Food, Rich Girl Poor Boy
Episodes: 40 (35 minutes/episode)
Stars: Jang Hyuk as Doo Chil Sung
Jung Ryeo Won as Dan Sae Woo
Lee Joon Ho as Seo Poong

Likes: 3 top reasons why I really like this drama… The food, the cast and the bromance!

Let’s dissect each one of them…

The Food. This drama will make you wanna visit a Chinese restaurant soon and eat Jajangmyeon! Honestly, I only tried the instant one but seeing how delicious it was in the show, I’m considering getting one from a restaurant. Jajangmyeon, for all of you who don’t know, is a Korean Chinese noodle dish topped with a thick sauce made of chunjang, diced pork and vegetables. Although, the black noodle was the most popular, there were also several dishes like the sweet and sour pork, wonton noodle soup, almond tofu, jjampong, dim sum which were deliciously featured in the drama and surely will make one’s tummy growl so loud. I love the way they put so much emphasis in the cooking and the food: ingredients, techniques, presentation. Not only it will make one eat but also will make someone love cooking especially with a wok. I personally love cooking with wok. Quick heat and it definitely helps me make good food. However, it is hard work. I understand why Lee Joon Ho, the chef Seo Poong in the drama, really learned how to cook with wok before filming the show. Which is, I think, necessary. This is my second drama after Temperature of Love, which is focused a lot in cooking and I just love the importance they gave to making good food. So if you love food and you value the process of making them, this drama is definitely a must-watch!

The Cast. Everyone was good but will have to focus on my top 3…

Jang Hyuk as Chil Sung the gangster boss. It’s good to see him in a less serious role than his previous one. Chil Sung is like a good gangster and loan shark (which is an oxymoron,) a big brother to all, not so lucky with women and that includes his own mother, but one focused and reliable guy that you too would want to be under his wing. He’s tough and cool!

Lee Joon Ho as Seo Poong the chef. I’m impressed with Joon’s Ho’s talent in acting considering his background as an idol. And I’m more impressed on his determination to do good in his role here as a chef by learning how to actually cook with real world chefs. His effort had definitely paid off as he was totally looking like a pro chef in the drama. Aside from that he also successfully established a good chemistry with his leading lady.

Jung Ryeo Won as Dan Sae Woo the rich daughter who aspires to be a chef as well. She was more believable as the rich daughter but as a chef who works with heavy woks, she was too thin to lift a wok. That’s just the looks anyway, her acting skills compensate for everything. She’s a good actress. Very natural. And most importantly she had a good chemistry with Joon Ho.

The Bromance and Camaraderie. Watching the drama, made me want to be part of the whole family. The bromance between Chil Sung and the gang members was something to envy. I see loyalty and friendship and it was great! I love the bonding moments of the boys, those hot spring moments and the singing in the car.

The bromance between Chil Sung and Seo Poong is also admirable. Seo Poong became like the baby brother of Chil Sung even though he got the girl that Chil Sung likes. Till the end, they supported each other and that what brothers are for really.

The camaraderie in the small restaurant then later in the big hotel restaurant was also a highlight of the entire show. First the atmosphere was always stressy, lots of shouting and scolding but in the end, everyone learned from each other and stayed friends. Hm, I don’t know how much of that is in reality.

Small Things That Made Big Impacts. That wall writing in Hangeul which translates to “Was that Life? Well then, once more!” And of course the fortune cookie message!

Dislikes: The ending was obviously shortened.

Lots of Subway commercial for something trying to put focus on the greatness of Chinese food.

I thought the horse had more later episode roles. They forgot about it until the end.

The K2

the k2 kdramaSummary: Kim Je Ha, a former soldier who is on the run after being framed, crosses path with the powerful Choi Yoo Jin, the wife of a presidential hopeful, Jang Se Joon. Je Ha witnesses one of Jang Se Joon’s affair thus ordered to be killed by Choi Yoo Jin but survives. Impressed by that, the latter then hires him to be one of her trusted bodyguards and gets an assignment to look after the secret daughter of Jang Se Joon.

Genre: Action, Political, Melodrama, Boss Romance, Rich Girl Poor Boy
Episodes: 16
Stars: Ji Chang Wook as Kim Je Ha
Song Yoon Ah as Choi Yoo Jin
Im Yoon Ah as Go Anna
Jo Sung Ha as Jang Se Joon
Kim Gab Soo as Park Kwan Soo

Likes: 2 main reasons why I like this drama so much…

Movie-like production but has the typical kdrama romance to it. It’s really like watching a blockbuster-action film with its first episodes showing our buffed main lead with non-stop heart-stopping and impressive John Woo-like action scenes. Every fight scenes in this drama are worth watching credit to the awesome director and Ji Chang Wook who looks so professional in every fight. I also love the slow-mo effect of the most important kick or punch or the famous shooting from the car (Looked like Gone in 60 seconds with Angie. Yeah, that exact shooting scene). Even with all those cool scenes in this drama, the romance was always tailing. It didn’t matter if our main guy was surrounded by other males, he always couldn’t help caring for his girl. And it didn’t matter to be the most evil as long as our madam could keep her man next to her side. Love was a bit complicated in this drama but it didn’t mean it ain’t romantic.

A-list actors! Oh where do I begin because everyone was just so good. Let’s start with…

Ji Chang Wook – he’s tall, very handsome and I could see he really trained hard for this as shown in his very buffed physique. He’s a very good actor not just a pretty face. And the fact that he’s well-trained in martial arts, all his action / fighting scenes actually really look natural. Moreover, this guy has overwhelming charisma. He could easily build chemistry with whoever he’s paired with.

Song Yoon Ah – the coveted best actress award, I will definitely give to this lady. She was just awesome! She comes to you as a simple and beautiful housewife to a presidential candidate, but behind the curtain she was the most powerful, merciless and manipulative lady in the country. How Song Yoon Ah portrayed her role here is beyond impressive! Salute to this great actress.

Im Yoon Ah – pretty and tall and I love her innocent role in this drama. Innocent beauty seemed to have captured the heart of our K2. I have to give her that.

Jo Sung Ha – I always like his performances but here he captured my heart with his sneaky politician and playboy character. Beyond all those hatred, fights and plans to crush his wife, his character had a change of heart and stayed with her till the end. The ultimate politician playboy turned romantic!

Kim Gab Soo – of all his roles, I think Park Kwan Soo is the most remarkable. He mastered the character of a sneaky, greedy, cunning, manipulative but stayed quite stress-free politician. Interestingly, as an antagonist, he wasn’t someone I hated to see rather I always looked forward to what he was gonna do next.

Moreover…

The chemistry between Ji Chang Wook and Yoon Ah was top and surprisingly Ji Chang Wook and Song Yoon Ah’s chemistry was also great. I wouldn’t have minded if the latter pair ended up with each other :).

Kissing scenes were cute. I love the rooftop romance (although realistically it would have been freakin cold to hang out up there, but well anyway…)

Ladies, Ji Chang Wook is showing lots of skin here! Yes and it involved lots of wet fighting with other naked guys! Hurry, check it out!

Well-done cliffhanger scenes every end of each episode.

Even artificial intelligence has a very K(orean) to it. Though Mirror and Cloud Nine are all pretty cool, they also represents beauty and vanity ;).

A very meaningful, tragic but acceptable ending. To my heart’s delights, a short epilogue to give an end to other hanging sub-stories.

Dislikes: Although I like Im Yoon Ah, I just felt that her character failed to develop anymore further. She remained the lady in distress till the end. I wonder if the likes of K2 would still be interested after a while. Oh well…

My Rating: 9 stars! (10 as highest)

Yong Pal

yong pal kdramaSummary: To pay back his credit, Kim Tae Hyun, a resident surgeon at Han Shin hospital does house calls for injured gangsters which earned him the name Yong Pal. With the intention to get a secure position in the hospital, he gets himself involved in a big secret on the 12th floor which houses the sleeping chaebol heiress beauty, Han Yeo Jin.

Genre: Medical, Action, Romance, Revenge, Chaebol, Rich Girl Poor Boy
Episodes: 18
Stars: Joo Won as Kim Tae Hyun
Kim Tae Hee as Han Yeo Jin
Jo Hyun Jae as Han Do Joon
Chae Jung Ahn as Lee Chae Young

Likes:  It’s a terrific story and I love the fact that Joo Won took the lead. With his experience as a genius surgeon before, it was easy to associate him with another medical drama. Young, ambitous, talented and risk-taker Kim Tae Hyun is a character to fall in love with. That even the most beautiful sleeping princess would sleep no more :).

Talking of “the most beautiful”, I think this drama has the most beautiful leading lady I’ve ever seen (since it’s my first Kim Tae Hee drama ever, haha!). She really looks like a doll! How can one be so beautiful  even in their sleep! Angel-like in her long hair and fierce with a short hair. Just too perfect!

I love the music that’s being played everytime someone has to make a great entrance… It makes everyone looks so great and powerful and cool and good-looking and huge…. even on their burial.

Han Yeo Jin’s house is magnificient! It looks familiar though because it’s the same house in the “The Heirs”. In this drama, they put more details in the interior.

The sleeping beauty lab is a work of art! This has to come up very impressive as it would be the home of the most beautiful, rich, (powerful if awake) chaebol heiress.

I love Cynthia, the supermodel! Her presence was something. She would have overshadowed Han Yeo Jin’s character if she was there all the time :). It was a short role but glad to see her again in the last episode.

Some comical relief… how about our gangster support? Love them! Our gangster boss specially gave the whole drama a lighter mood.

Poor Han Do Joon but at least wifey had a change of heart for him.

Romantic windy hill scenes! And I got 2 of them.

How could you resist a million-dollar proposal from your very beautiful girlfriend? From an heiress to surgeon boyfriend… marry me, be my only heir and legal guardian… ahm of course  YES!

And I just love the ending. Teasing! I thought they would pull a nasty one, almost got me fooled. But it turned out to be awesome! With the come back of Cynthia and a young company, they pulled a very Yong Pal ending! Love, love, love!

Dislikes: Just some logic holes here… why would you hire that sly secretary who was with the enemy all along and put all your trust in him. It was just so annoying  watching him almost winning in the end.

My Rating: 8.5 stars! (10 as highest)

High Society

high society kdramaSummary: Jang Yoon Ha is a chaebol trying to find what she really likes so she took a job in a supermarket and blended well with the common people. She found a good friend in Ji Yi who worked with her. Soon these two ladies will find love with men having opposite backgrounds as theirs.

Genre: Romance, Family, Rich Boy Poor Girl, Chaebol, Rich Girl Poor Boy
Episodes: 16
Stars: UEE as Jang Yoon Ha
Sung Joon as Choi Joon Ki
Park Hyung shik as Yoo Chang Soo
Im Ji Yun as Lee Ji Yi

Likes: The classic! Brings me back memories of BOF. Just this time both genders are rich and their partners, the opposite.

The cast! Aren’t they all towering! It’s not realistic but isn’t it good to see great-looking leads like these.

UEE looks great paired with Sung Joon!

Park Hyun Shik is a bankable chaebol star. He was great portraying Chang Soo. Could right away give Gu Jun Pyo a run for his money. Paired with someone bubbly, poor but with a skilled heart, Ji Yi; this love team was an instant hit!

I love the story of the scorpion and the frog! Let’s both die together in love!

The bromance of Joon Ki and Chang Soo! Are there still friendships like that left?

The mum characters that I like are…

Yoon Ha’s mum – she was a crumbling fierceness but remained classy.

Joon Ki’s mum – so  sweet and understanding. The mum you want to have.

Chang Soo’s mum – trying to be a tyrant mum but ended up giving in to her son’s wish. Yay, chaebol mum accepting our poor girl Ji Yi.

I love the scene… Chang Soo’s mum changing her heart and trying to convince Ji Yi to date her son. I thought it was the cutest!

Of course I love the ending and was looking forward to the epilogue. Glad they granted my wish. Everyone’s happy and in love :).

Dislikes: I just didn’t feel the chemistry between UEE and Sung Joon. It’s true they look great together but there was no spark between these 2.

I didn’t really grasp the issues between Yoon Ha’s siblings. The disappearance of the brother and his fight with the older sister.

The bitter reality between Yoon Ha’s parents. Unrepairable relationship!

My Rating: 7.5 stars! (10 as highest)

That Winter, The Wind Blows

that winter the wind blows kdramaSummary: Oh Soo, a notorious gambler is in big trouble and in order to save himself from the gangster boss and raise money to pay his debt, he’s posing as the long lost brother of a blind heiress whose name was also Oh Soo.

Genre: Melodrama, Romance, Chaebol, Rich Girl Poor Boy
Episodes: 16
Stars: Jo In Sung as Oh Soo
Song Hye Kyo as Oh Young
Kim Bum as Park Jin Sung
Jung Eun Ji as Moon Hee Sun

Likes: I didn’t have high expectations but after a few episodes, I got hooked! It has a very common story but I think what made it really addictive is the chemistry between the leads and their best acting talents in a melodrama. I just couldn’t wait what happens next to the two characters so 16 episodes was a swift!

Every episode has a great cliffhanger! Watch and you’ll know what I mean!

Love the OST! I specially love the background music which is being played when everything gets exciting.

Filled with lots of picture perfect scenes which make the whole drama so beautiful! My favorite is when Oh Soo brought Oh Young to the top of a snowy mountain and let her hear the nature’s bells. So touching! I thought I’m gonna fall in love with Oh Soo right at that moment :).

Jo In Sung – I love him in this drama! I was rooting he’d do a great job after watching Frozen Flower (must watch)!

Song Hye Kyo – girl, you didn’t age a bit! She still has a gorgeous face since Full House!

Great to see Kim Bum again and surprised he can really act ;)!

My favorite characters would be Secretary Wang – couldn’t hate her for what she did and of course Moo Chul – I’ll give him the best Hyung award :)!

I was ready for a very sad ending but still hoped for a happy one. I’m glad this drama granted me my wish! So yes, I love the ending! I watched the last episode over and over again, lol!

Dislikes: Lots of heartaches of course but glad I was in shape to take them all :).

My Rating: 9.0 stars! (10 as highest)

Genre: Romance, Melodrama, Revenge, Chaebol, Rich Girl Poor Boy
Episodes: 20
Stars: Song Joong Ki as Kang Ma Roo
Moon Chae Won as Seo Eun Gi
Park Si Yeon as Han Jae Hee

Likes: Song Joong Ki! I wanted to see another drama from him after watching Sunkyunkwan Scandal.
Good actors! First time to see Moon Chae Won, I love her!
I love the intro! SJK in black holding that watch plus a catchy background music!
Hands down to the stylist of this drama. Love the outfits specially Park Si Yeon’s!
The ending though lacking is not that bad!

Dislikes: Song Joong Ki’s character is not for him. Too melancholic for that beautiful face.
Song Joong Ki’s too young-looking for Moon Chae Won. Though I love both actors, the chemistry wasn’t just there, sorry.
They could have done better with the script. Too black and white! Hero’s too nice that he’s stupid and villain, too evil that she’s the smartest.
Heavily advertised Samsung Galaxy Note, lol!
