Kim Seo Hyung as Jung Seo Hyun
Ok Ja Yeon as Kang Ja Kyung

Likes: Awesome story with equally awesome storytelling! What could I say, surprises were always mind-blowing! I couldn’t tell at all what was coming. All the mysteries surrounding each of our characters were so well plotted. You don’t know who’s telling the truth or why someone has to lie. Bottom line, the message was clear, beyond all those money, power and control, it was about bond, protection and what really matters most to each person.

The Mystery.  It all started in a typical fashion… We had one couple in this crazy rich family who seemed to be normal. Then, it started to get weird with the guy breaking the wife’s trust. It all ended up with the guy getting killed, but who killed him exactly, when everyone in the house wanted him dead?! Truly, the suspense in this drama was slaying!

The Women. I haven’t seen so many strong and gorgeous women in a kdrama like in this one. I just couldn’t get enough of our top 3…

Seo Hee Soo – what a pretty lady! Always well-dressed, and I thought she was the luckiest of them all. And yes because of that, she actually bore the most pain. I thought, this piece was perfect for Lee Bo Young. She always get these kind of melancholic roles. Of course, again, she nailed this one. Such a great actress. I love the scene when she had miscarriage. So convincing and heartbreaking!

Jung Seo Hyun – if I have a female crush then it’s got to be her! How could she look too gorgeous! Kim Seo Hyung so nailed this lesbian character. She had to exude that powerful, strong, boyish personality while maintaining her classy, motherly and leaderly role. I loved how she spoke with commanding tone and at some other point, how she looked like she’s at her breaking point with those eyes always ready to shed tears. Her, standing in front of that beautiful window represented a lot of things… power, class and at the same time confinement.

Kang Ja Kyung – another beautiful face! Ok Ja Yeon proved though that she’s not just a pretty face but a talent powerhouse. Her character transition from the sly tutor who wanted to have what she thought were hers, to a repentful woman who was willing to do everything including giving up her right to her biological son. Accepting and knowing where she stood was her ultimate redemption. I thought she looked gorgeous riding a horse.

The man – Han Ji Yong. He truly shone in this drama. Started as a perfect husband, father and a competent businessman. Beyond a handsome face, wealth and power, his inner core was so corrupted. His character development was quite dramatic. Lee Hyun Wook truly did a great job in this. He’s remarkable!

Camera movement. I really love how the camera moves from one walking person to the next. That continuity and fluidity is totally my style. The stills are also impressive, like the beautiful Jung Seo Hyun window scene.

The setting. That crazy huge property with 2 main houses is befitting the eccentric life of the rich. Heavily fortified with guards at the gate, maids buzzing around in uniforms, wide lawns that you need a transport to get around and our madames always dressed in gowns!

The beautiful and tragic loveteams.

Han Soo Hyeok & Kim Yoo Yeon – young love that defied all the rules. She’s a new maid in the house and he’s the young master, heir to a vast fortune. This could have been a typical rich guy, poor girl kdrama but it wasn’t just about them.

Seo Hee Soo & Han Ji Yong – how the two met was a beautiful love story. They became a powerful couple, Han Ji Yong, being considered as the next chairman of the Hwoyon Group and Seo Hee Seo, a former top actress. Things just didn’t go well with these two and I thought their end was the most tragic.

Jung Seo Hyun & as Noh Ah Rim – our gorgeous madame of the house Jung Seo Hyun being paired with the equally gorgeous and talented artist Noh Ah Rim. Their story was heartbreaking. A love that had to defy social barriers. Beautiful yet at some point tragic.

Episode’s titles. It’s a minor thing but I like this kind of details. It makes one episode an own mini drama. My favourite of course is the final one which was entitled, Glorious Women! Oh hell yeah, they all came out victorious and glorious!

The Ending. With all the tragedy in that household, we could pick up pieces and learn from them. I like how people protected each other, how they’re trying to heal, how they learn where to stand, how they realize their mistakes, how to fight for what they love and I think most importantly, how to get through that high wall, they themselves created.

Dislikes: When did Kopiko become “only for the rich” candy?  At least, that’s what they were implying… high oxygen level in the room (yep only for the rich), but wait kopiko?

My Rating: 9 stars! (10 as highest)

When My Love Blooms

when my love blooms kdramaSummary: Yoon Ji Soo is in her 40s and has a son from a divorced marriage. She is having a hard time as a single mom trying to raise her son and make a living as a piano teacher. After several years, she meets her first love unexpectedly. His name is Han Jae Hyun, his senior in college who she deeply admired and loved.

Trailer: When My Love Blooms

Genre: Romance, Melodrama, Rich Boy Poor Girl
Episodes: 16
Stars: Yoo Ji Tae as Han Jae Hyun
Jin Young as Han Jae Hyun (20s)
Lee Bo Young as Yoon Ji Soo
Jeon So Nee as Yoon Ji Soo (20s)

Likes: Beautiful storytelling going back and forth the eventful past and the somewhat blurry present. I love the details of the 90’s set, it was very well researched. From the fashion, hairstyle, happenings, transportation down to those little gadgets like pagers, casette tapes / recorders and analog phones. I also like the emphasis on radio stations when you can request songs and leave messages for someone on air. I went to college in the 90’s so all those things bring back old memories. The heavy focus on the love story in the past, how Han Jae Hyun and Yoon Ji Soo met, how they fell in love, how they spent time together, how they shared the same convictions, how their love was being challenged and how they got separated, shed light on why these 2 souls deserve nothing else but being reunited. I like it, I thought it was beautifully told.

The powerful couples:

Jin Young as Han Jae Hyun and Jeon So Nee as Yoon Ji Soo – Two young souls in love, full of energy, life and dreams! I love the chemistry between these two, they really looked great together. I’m also impressed by the acting. This is probably Jin Young’s (Got7) first serious drama role and I would say he did great. Same with Jeon So Nee, new face in the drama world but her performance was top. She’s very pretty too!

Yoo Ji Tae as Han Jae Hyun and Lee Bo Young as Yoon Ji Soo – getting back to you first love in your 40’s after going through separate tough lives, honestly it’s hard to imagine :). But since it’s the very handsome Yoo Ji Tae and the always young-looking Lee Bo Young, it was imaginable! These two looked great together. Plus I have a big crush on Yoon Ji Tae, those smiles made me melt!

The most beautiful reunion – at the train station on that snowy night!  I’m not a big fan of snow. Even just the sight of it on tv makes me freeze but that scene at the train station emitted so much warmth. The hair of Yoon Ji Su when she was turning around to look at Han Jae Hyun – such a beautiful reminiscent of the young past.

Those most beautiful kissing scenes on the beach during sunset both by the young past and the older present. Well, one way to reignite the romance is reliving the beautiful past eh.

The lovely poem sent by the young Han Jae Hyun to the radio station:

The End of that Summer

The crape myrtle survived that summer. The tree didn’t crumble even after a series of storms. Like a shower of hail, I hung red flowers. That summer, I was in a middle of a storm. That summer, my despair bore red flowers like they were mocking me, but after several storms, they didn’t fall. When they fell, they clung and climbed up. The stubborn flowers of the fire-breathing crape myrtle covered a small garden with blood. And my despair vanished like magic.

The OST is perfect with the melo atmosphere… When My Love Blooms OST.

I normally dislike drama ad placement but those Samsung flip phones look really good!

Dislikes: It got quite boring towards the end. It was going back and forth in slow pace. Nothing much new going on, I was falling asleep most of the time.

There was closure on most threads but I found them so cringy especially the closing of the main characters. They could have done it without that.

My Rating: 7.5 stars! (10 as highest)

Whisper

whisper kdramaSummary: Shin Young Joo is a police officer who is trying to prove the innocence of his father for being accused as the murderer of his own friend. She then meets judge Lee Dong Jun and wants to take revenge on him for making a false ruling to her father’s case. To prove her fathers innocence, she is about to fight the who’s who in the biggest law firm Taebaek but of course only if she collaborates with Lee Dong Jun.

Genre: Political, Romance, Legal, Revenge
Episodes: 17
Stars: Lee Sang Yoon as Lee Dong Joon
Lee Bo Young as Shin Young Joo
Kwon Yool as Kang Jung Il
Park Se Young as Choi Soo Yun

Likes: Political war in its finest! It was just like shooting each other with tactics and defending one’s self with more tactics! It was a battle to watch and thank goodness I’m not in that battlefield. It’s one of the best well-written script. I’m no lawyer but I could tell the writers had done a lot of research to make the story real or close to being real.

So many good actors here, it is indeed packed! But will focus on the main cast…

Lee Bo Young – another cute but tough role. Like her real-life husband, she delivers well in this kind of role. Although the role of Shin Young Joo was an impossible all-rounder, she made her way from being a tough policewoman to a smart secretary and back to being a police officer all with grace.

Lee Sang Yoon – always has this worried facial expression that leaves his forehead wrinkled a lot. Well it fits well with his character in this drama, a young judge who has a bag of trouble to save his own career. And omo, how can I not mention he looks soo great in suit! So tall and handsome!

Kwon Yool – he nailed it here, bravo! The best actor in this drama hands down. He really proves here he’s more than just a pretty and cute face. I will always remember the very confident Kang Jung Il… his voice, his diction, his super smart moves, but above all his weakness to that one girl he loves.

Park Se Young – ah she was great too! The role of Choi Soo Yun, that girl who brought Kang Jung Il down, was a sure challenge. For once she had to be beautiful, powerful, smart and sneaky. Well done girl!

The best love team, I have to be honest was Kang Jung Il and Choi Soo Yun. Their love was like Romeo and Juliet! It was so tragic! Painfully good! They had to give up each other to save oneself. Choi Soo Yun got him in the end when he allowed himself to waver. Poor Jung Il, he could have ended as the overall winner, Taebaek and all.

Special mention to Taebaek’s founders Choi Il Hwan and Kang Yu Taek, the mighty and powerful! Acting by these two was just superb!

Honestly, it took me a while to realize why it’s called Whisper. If you observe, they always whisper to one another everytime one wants to bring the other one down. It was like whisking a summary of the great plan to the other person without telling the latter the detail. That becomes the torture and makes the latter filled with anxiety.

The music is so good and powerful. Always fitted the setting: Whisper OST

That moment when Shin Young Joo was reinstated as a police officer and that moment when Lee Dong Joon entered the CEO office as the CEO of Taebaek. The moments when we see light at the end of the tunnel. Yay, winning!

And that moment when our lady police officer finally handcuffed our Lee Dong Jun! Of course there’s gonna be a kiss! There was a kiss!

The final Finale ending, lol! but I loved it, even just the sound of it! Here, we have a closure for everything  – how everyone got sentenced to prison (of course this is a lawyer drama after all). All good! But wait, who was that super gorgeous lady prosecutor?! (Got distracted there for a bit 🙂 ).

Dislikes: It got draggy a bit in a few earlier episodes and yes 2 kissing scenes? The first one wasn’t even real.

My Rating: 8.5 stars! (10 as highest)

God’s Gift – 14 Days

god's gift kdramaSummary: 2 people went back in time exactly 14 days before the death of their loved ones. One is a mother who will try to save  her daughter from getting murdered and the other one is the brother of a prisoner who’s going to be hung.

Genre: Action, Melodrama, Crime, Thriller, Time-travel, Detective
Episodes: 16
Stars: Lee Bo Young as Kim Soo Hyun
Cho Seung Woo as Ki Dong Chan
Kim Tae Woo as Han Ji Hoon
Jung Gyu Woon as Hyun Woo Jin
Kim Yoo Bin as Han Sa Byul

Likes: I love time-travel, it’s always interesting. So interesting I stopped watching the other drama I was watching with this one to see quickly what would happen in the end.

Every episode is a thrill! New mysteries kept pouring in and you just can’t stop to watch. Great cliffhangers as well!

That emotion throughout the drama that has been successfully carried out so parents like me feel the same thing when losing a child or about to lose one. So moms out there, watch your kids like a hawk!

Best acting goes to Lee Bo Young and Cho Seung Woo! I got to like LBY from I Hear your Voice, she was great in her role as a lawyer. In this drama, she proves to be a great actress by portraying a totally different character, that of a desperate parent trying to save her child. And Cho Seung Woo, what can I say, you’ll love him as an actor but you’ll love him more in his character as Dong Chan! He was great!

Dislikes: I got spoilt watching the great villains of Empress Ki that I found the ones in this drama to be mediocre, not scary at all. Though it took time to know who the perpetrators were, revelation didn’t really make an impact.

It was a pain to watch Jung Gyu Woon act. Pretty face but lacking facial expression, so dull.

There were so many annoying situations in this drama like, why do you keep leaving your daughter with someone if you know she’s gonna die, argh!

I really don’t understand why Dong Chan died?! Yes I think he died (sorry fans).  Okay let’s say he really had to die but they could have at least give a good explanation! If the child survived, he really didn’t  have a reason to die in the end. Tah no sense at all!

My Rating: 7.5 stars! (10 as highest)

I Hear Your Voice

Summary: Park Soo Ha, a high schoi hear your voice kdramaol student is looking for the woman who once helped him put the man who killed his father into jail. He then realized she became a lawyer and went to meet her. With his ability to read people’s mind, he’s trying to protect her from now newly released killer of his dad.

Genre: Romantic Comedy, Fantasy, Crime, Thriller, Mystery, Supernatural
Episodes: 18
Stars: Lee Bo Young as Jang Hye Sung
Lee Jong Suk as Park Soo Ha
Yoon Sang Hyun as Cha Kwan Woo
Lee Da Hee as Seo Do Yun

Likes: Good story! Lawyer-themed so I expected interesting cases to be solved. There were of course like what I expected but it also has its own main and important case which involved our brave leading characters. It was a thrill to watch it till end.

This is another noona-love drama I like. It was good to watch it with You Who Came from the Stars which is (guess what) a noona-love drama as well. It seems to be the trend in 2013 and it gives us (all within noona-age bracket) some hopes. Lol!

Another superpower drama. The other one is alien alright, this one is hearing thoughts!

Lee Bo Young – first time to see her in a drama. She definitely did give justice portraying

Jang Hye Sung. She has a cute and young face which helped me accept the fact she would end up with the young guy :).

Lee Jong Suk – hm definitely a cute guy! But was he too thin? I swear I won’t fit in hos skinny pants!

Yoon Sang Hyun – I like him here. I liked him as Oska in Secret Garden but a lawyer seems to suit him well.

Lee Da Hee – She’s just gorgeous! She always looks very intimidating. And yeah she can also act!

Though the lawyer-theme can become so serious, there were some comical relief that made it easier to watch especially to viewers like me who can’t stand heavy drama. Oh wait, I was actually able to stand them! They were really good heavy drama moments.

I have to mention the cameo of the popular lawyer Choi Yoon of A Gentleman’s Dignity. Love to see him again!

It was a good ending! I like the kiss!

Dislikes: There were some annoying scenes that I didn’t like. It was too stupid for it to happen!

The villain became soo draggy with his intention to kill. But well, we won’t have a drama, right?

My Rating: 8 stars! (10 as highest)
