Trailer: L.U.C.A.: The Beginning

Genre: Science Fiction, Mystery, Detective, Action
Episodes: 12
Stars: Kim Rae Won as Ji Oh
Lee Da Hee as Goo Reum
Kim Sung Oh as Yi Son

Likes: Action-packed drama all throughout! Watched the first episode and I got hooked. There was right away huge explosions, crazy chases and bloody fights, and it didn’t stop there. This is a short 12-episode drama that would feed your whole year action craving!

A bit of educational stuff. WTH is LUCA? Well, it stands for Last Universal Common Ancestor – the common origin of humans, animals, plants, bacteria and more. The drama is trying to show how powerful one could be if you possess those genetic information of the LUCA, like the information of an eel which has the ability to produce electricity. That’s how our Z0 / Ji Oh came into being. Ah, this made me do some research eh :).

Liked the sci-fi, mystery and some detective works all combined in this drama. Although it was more of a science fiction, the detective part made me really hold on to it. Our lady detective here looked good and capable of doing some hard actions.

Very realistic. Aside from the very good action scenes, the details are impressive! The focus on consistent lighting (mostly dark like dungeon), sound (like when someone gets hit on the head), the blood, the sweat – was superb! Definitely, some Tarantino moments there!

The top leads. I love Kim Rae Won playing as Ji Oh. I don’t think someone else could have done it better than him. I read somewhere that Ji Chang Wook was first offered the role but really, Ji Chang Wook for this somber role? Nope! Kim Rae Won has this perfect look to be Ji Oh. I think it’s the eyes. He could look so pitiful at one moment and spiteful at the next.

Lee Da Hee as Goo Reum, I thought she was too pretty for a rough role. If you ignore the pretty face, she actually has a tall, sturdy and strong body, perfect for action. I lost count how many times she got punched on the face or got hit on the head, she would always get up.

Ji Oh vs Captain Lee never-ending fight. It’s like watching karate movies with those never-ending karate scenes. No one dies! I find that entertaining :).

Wedding scene. I thought this added a bit of flowery, bright touch to this quite dark drama. The couple Ji Oh and Goo Reum looked so cute, happy and in love during their wedding.

Favourite dialogue:

Ji Oh: “I’m not a complete human being anyway”!

Goo Reum: “That’s why I liked you, because you were incomplete, because I could fill that void”.

Ending. Since it is just the beginning, it definitely suggests a continuation. Would I watch it? Maybe.

Dislikes: The story got kind of lost mid way. There was too much bloodshed that didn’t make sense anymore.

Too heartbreaking. There were just scenes that involve mum and baby that I couldn’t take. Sad and dark.

My Rating: 7.5 stars! (10 as highest)

I Hear Your Voice

Summary: Park Soo Ha, a high schoi hear your voice kdramaol student is looking for the woman who once helped him put the man who killed his father into jail. He then realized she became a lawyer and went to meet her. With his ability to read people’s mind, he’s trying to protect her from now newly released killer of his dad.

Genre: Romantic Comedy, Fantasy, Crime, Thriller, Mystery, Supernatural
Episodes: 18
Stars: Lee Bo Young as Jang Hye Sung
Lee Jong Suk as Park Soo Ha
Yoon Sang Hyun as Cha Kwan Woo
Lee Da Hee as Seo Do Yun

Likes: Good story! Lawyer-themed so I expected interesting cases to be solved. There were of course like what I expected but it also has its own main and important case which involved our brave leading characters. It was a thrill to watch it till end.

This is another noona-love drama I like. It was good to watch it with You Who Came from the Stars which is (guess what) a noona-love drama as well. It seems to be the trend in 2013 and it gives us (all within noona-age bracket) some hopes. Lol!

Another superpower drama. The other one is alien alright, this one is hearing thoughts!

Lee Bo Young – first time to see her in a drama. She definitely did give justice portraying

Jang Hye Sung. She has a cute and young face which helped me accept the fact she would end up with the young guy :).

Lee Jong Suk – hm definitely a cute guy! But was he too thin? I swear I won’t fit in hos skinny pants!

Yoon Sang Hyun – I like him here. I liked him as Oska in Secret Garden but a lawyer seems to suit him well.

Lee Da Hee – She’s just gorgeous! She always looks very intimidating. And yeah she can also act!

Though the lawyer-theme can become so serious, there were some comical relief that made it easier to watch especially to viewers like me who can’t stand heavy drama. Oh wait, I was actually able to stand them! They were really good heavy drama moments.

I have to mention the cameo of the popular lawyer Choi Yoon of A Gentleman’s Dignity. Love to see him again!

It was a good ending! I like the kiss!

Dislikes: There were some annoying scenes that I didn’t like. It was too stupid for it to happen!

The villain became soo draggy with his intention to kill. But well, we won’t have a drama, right?

My Rating: 8 stars! (10 as highest)

Secret

secret kdramaSummary: A story of a woman who tries to keep a secret to save the man that she loves but ended up being unwanted by him in the end.

Genre: Melodrama, Romance, Revenge
Episodes: 16
Stars: Hwang Jung Eum as Kang Yoo Jung
Ji Sung as Jo Min Hyuk
Bae Soo Bin as Ahn Do Hoon
Lee Da Hee as Shin Se Yeon

Likes:  I like everything about the drama; the plot, the cast, the direction, the ending – well done!

The plot – it’s a perfect balance of sadness, revenge, ambition and love. How the truth unravel in the end reminds me of a couple good HongKong movies I watched in the past which has a similar style of storyline. You wouldn’t miss to say, oh so that how it actually happened! Every episode is a thrill you don’t wanna miss.

The cast – well chosen! I just love the four of them. Hwang Jung Eum acted as the perfect victim. Ji Sung, oh Ji Sung (he’s hot!) was perfect immature Chaebol. Bae Soo Bin, he gets these creepy roles but suit him very well. Lee Da Hee, ah she always looked naturally rich!

The direction – for the acting to look very natural, it must be the doing of the so called director! Simply well done!

The ending – we get this story which is almost reality but has a sweet kdrama ending, ahhh! I’m actually used to have a HongKong thriller movie kind of ending but hey this is a kdrama afterall!

The most touching moment is about the son. How dare them writers touch the hearts of the moms?? Wahhh, I couldn’t help crying. But it was good, well researched or maybe the writers are moms as well :).

Perfect length of drama! I wouldn’t ask for an additional episode just to have a longer epilogue. It was perfect like that!

Dislikes: It’s hard to recall something I disliked. I think the likes outweighs it all.

My Rating: 9.5 stars! (10 as highest)
