Likes: Just love this kind of storytelling, when the scenes keep switching from present to past to gradually shed light to the current gloomy setting. In this drama, they’ve been detailed with what happened during different periods. There was the Goryeo era, early Joseon, then Joseon during the Japanese invasion,  also I think year 2006 and of course, the present. It’s amazing to see the same place in different times, totally different worlds. The change in costumes, the hairstyles and location sets were very well-thought of. I just love Dan Hwal’s look during the Japanese invasion.

Cinematic experience. I’m very impressed with a lot beautiful and brilliantly shot scenes. My favourite is when Dan Hwal and Ming Sang Woon were next to that field with an amazing sunset as the backdrop. The details on the grasses, the colour of the sun and the silhouette of these two souls starting to remember each other. Just beautiful!

Different monsters. They definitely added extra challenge to Dan Hwal’s goal, although, he was also confused most of the time who his allies were. The other monsters served as obstacles to get to the biggest monster of them all, which was Ok Eul Tae.

Impressive makeup. I especially love Ok Eul Tae’s makeup when he slowly turned into an old guy. Pitiful and scary at the same time!

The twists. It was so difficult to understand at first, only the very last two episodes when it finally unraveled, who the original Bulgasals were. And of course their tragic story, which lasted for several hundred of years to  fix.

The cast…

Lee Jin Wook as Dan Hwal – fell in love with his hair ❤️. He looked extra good during Joseon’s Japanese invasion, especially the hair and the kimono. Also love his warrior look during the Goryeo period.

Kwon Na Ra as Min Sang Woon – so beautiful as the Bulgasal lady in red! As Min Sang Woon, she was this chatty and trustful person, who was so drawn to Dan Hwal, which was explained at the end.

Lee Joon as Ok Eul Tae – I’m most impressed by Lee Joon’s acting here. He was just brilliant. His voice, expression and mannerisms gave Ok Eul Tae’s character the edge. Ok Eul Tae gave an impression that he was the good person, and that was somehow always convincing. Well done Lee Joon for such an awesome performance.

Gong Seung Yeon as Dan Sol – I was surprised she took the supporting role, but although she was in a supporting role, you can’t deny her dominating presence. Gong Seung Yeon is such a beauty with beautiful speaking eyes.

The Power Ladies. Kwon Na Ra and Gong Seung Yeon in one frame is just blinding. Two gorgeous ladies (both top leads material) as sisters in one show, I just can’t get over that.

The Ending. We had two epilogues! One was 8 months later… The other one was 50 years later. I’m so glad the scriptwriters put an end to it.

Dislikes: The chemistry between Lee Jin Wook and Kwon Na Ra wasn’t that strong. I wish they had more time together after the final revelation.

The drama was a bit draggy at some points. It was going back and forth without any relevant progress.

My Rating: 8 stars! (10 as highest)

The Time We Were Not In Love

The Time We Were Not In Love kdramaSummary: Oh Ha Na and Choi Won have been good friends and neighbours for 17 years. They’ve been through thick and thin and both  had been in love with someone else and ended up brokenhearted. With the comeback of Oh Ha Na’s ex-boyfriend, Choi Won’s chance to express his real feelings to his bestfriend has gotten slim.

Genre: Romantic Comedy
Episodes: 16
Stars: Ha Ji Won as Oh Ha Na
Lee Jin Wook as Choi Won
Yoon Kyun Sang as Cha Seo Hoo
Choo Soo Hyun as Lee So Eun

Likes: Lead stars are my favorites! Always a fan of Ha Ji Won since Secret Garden. And Choi Won, I just couldn’t get enough of him from the Three Musketeers! They’re a very promising pair and their chemistry didn’t disappoint at all. This is specially proven at the 15th episodes.

I like the way the story was told. Lots of flashbacks from where the leads were still in highschool. It brings back some of my personal memories (not exactly though). I bet there are some of you who could relate as well :).

Our tall and handsome Yoon Kyun Sang as Cha Seo Hoo is a tough competition. He could have run easily with our girl!

For the working ladies, Oh Ha Na’s daily office outfits are something to consider. They seem to have put a lot of effort dressing her up (always looking great from head to toe). Definitely “dressing for success”.

The older loveteam (between the older pianist and Choi Won’s cousin) is a great icebreaker. These 2 were somehow cute together despite the ages. And having to end up with a baby together makes me like these lovebirds more!

I like the games of words… 1 + won, my one (Won), one (Ha Na) to one and I’m Lonely (which was supposed to be Rooney). Just cute!

To compensate for all the heartbreaks and the times the 2 leads didn’t spend with each other, I’m glad they pulled off a full episode of happy ending. The wedding and the baby news might be a big cliche but it just had to end like.

Dislikes: Though I like the actors, I didn’t really warm up to the characters. Oh Ha Na’s character just didn’t fit Ha Ji Won. Too girly, submissive and at times irritating. Where did my tough girl go? Choi Won’s character was also too pitiful! It was hard to see him got rejected by his girl, even got abandoned by his mum. Poor Choi Won! Wanted to adopt him at that instance!

Lee Jin Wook is too thin! He looks thinner than Ha Ji Won!

I understand it’s sponsored by Tandy (shoes) but they could have been subtle with the promotion. The show is obviously a big shoe promotion. Showing the workplace, the shops and Oh Ha Na (Ha Ji Won) wearing their shoes. It was too “in your face”!

At times, it just really gets boring.

My Rating: 7 stars! (10 as highest)

The Three Musketeers (Season 1)

the three musketeers kdramaSummary: Park Dal Hyang wished to be of serviced to the king so he worked hard to pass the exam in the capital. While in the capital, he met a group of noble-looking men who called themselves The Three Muskeeters. The leader of the group was actually the crown prince who Park Dal Hyang would later have a clash with but then after knowing the prince’s true intent, he would dedicate his service to him.

Genre: Period, Action, Romance, Political, Kings & Princes
Episodes: 12
Stars: Jung Yong Hwa as Park Dal Hyang
Lee Jin Wook as Crown Prince So Hyun
Yang Dong Geun as Heo Seung Po
Jung Hae In as Ahn Min Seo

Likes: The whole drama was short but good. Advantage of a short drama, it eliminates those unnecessary scenes that makes it draggy. Concise but to the point without eliminating the thrill.

Talking about thrills, the cliffhangers are really well done! Make you watch the next episode as soon as possible.

I was looking forward to another Jung Yong Hwa performance. He’s not yet that great but always working on it. Someone to watch out for. Still having a handsome face but in this drama my eyes were always glued on the prince lol!

The prince and the princess falling in love! I was so hooked on those episodes. I didn’t want them to end!

The fighting scenes are really good! Lots of Dal Hyang fighting moments but my favorites are Dal Hyang vs the Prince, Dal Hyang vs Yong Gol Dae

Season 1 ended so well and gave us a big cliffhanger. I can’t wait for season 2! I hope it’s as good or even better.

Dislikes: I was hoping it was truly the end of Mi Ryung but she seemed alive and kicking and ready for season 2.

Didn’t like Dal Hyang not finding a girl. I guess it was hard to top his first love but hoping he will have in season 2!

My Rating: 8.5 stars! (10 as highest)
