My Sassy Girl

My-Sassy-Girl kdramaSummary: Gyun Woo, after coming back from Qing as a scholar lands on a job as the crown prince’s teacher. He meets a not-so-sassy, drunk but pretty lady in the streets of the capital only to find out later that she’s the princess Hye Myung. The princess has been trying to find out if her mother, the ousted queen is still alive. Gyun Woo tries to help her but finds out later he did a great mistake in the past that will cause their relationship to crumble.

Genre: Period, Romantic Comedy
Episodes: 32 (30-min episodes)
Stars: Joo Won as Gyun Woo
Oh Yeon Seo as Princess Hye Myung
Lee Jung Shin as Kang Joon Young
Kim Yoon Hye as Jung Da Yun

Likes: It’s period drama but not the serious ones. I love how they made it look like the modern times for instance…

  • Gyun Woo pictured in the beginning as the fashionista from Joseon and popular scholar in Qing.
  • Classy cafes and restaurants in the capital where the nobles and their wives and kids hang out. The nobles’ wives talk about the latest bag fashion and the daughters talk about the eligible bachelors in the town.
  • The bookstore! I love the bookstore with famous novels like Boys Over Flowers, My Lover from the Stars, Secret Garden and some more titles from popular kdramas.
  • The rich girls’ nail makeover hangout.
  • Those annoying pretty boys law enforcers who keep bugging Lady Da Yun.
  • The shoes! Pretty shoes in the streets of Joseon and the rich ladies have a collection of them.
  • The prince of Qing! He was far from looking like someone from Qing but who cares, he looked so good and looked like from a foreign land!
  • Even gangsters are well-organized like the present-time Korean mafia.
  • Use of rings to propose!

Some funny and cute moments but my favourite was when the princess was caught by Gyun Woo’s parents and sister slept over at Gyun’s Woo’s room. She wasn’t so sassy afterall!

We have great-looking leads! I love both of them. Joo Won, his looks and height complements the super beautiful Oh Yeon Soo!

Lee Jung Shin, it’s good to see him trying another drama genre. Although more workshop and practice for his acting skills, he has a great 2nd lead potential.

Great actress award goes to Yoon Se Ah, the annoying queen in this drama. Her facial expressions, dialogues and body languages show how professional she is.

From all period dramas I’d watched so far, this one has the sweetest Queen mum (the queen dowager, mum of the king).

Towards the end, we had 2 great story twists. One is the sad fate of Joo Myung and the Queen. The other one is Gyun Woo’s lost memory coming back and shedding light to the events of the past.

Great, flashy costumes!

Beautiful bridge scene and proposal as ending!

Dislikes: Some of the sets looked so made up like the garden of the princess. It looks like they decorated it with fake flowers.

Yes we have 2 gorgeous-looking leads but the chemistry, hm… not so blown-away.

The ending. Yes, very pretty bridge scene but no proper epilogue just lots of flashbacks. Quite poor.

My Rating: 7.5 stars! (10 as highest)

Cinderella and Four Knights

Genre: Romantic Comedy, Rich Boy Poor Girl, Flower Boys, Chaebol, Contract Marriage
Episodes: 16
Stars: Jung Il Woo as Kang Ji Woon
Ahn Jae Hyun as Kang Hyun Min
Park So Dam as Eun Ha Won
Lee Jung Shin as Kang Seo Woo
Choi Min as Lee Yoon Sung
Son Na Eun as Park Hye Ji

Likes: Seriously, the story is not really important here. It’s all about the boys! Yes I repeat it’s all about the pretty boys in this drama! It’s a Cinderella story alright but I’ll get to her later. Let’s talk about the Kang cousins first…

Kang Ji Won (Jung Il Woo) – tough mechanic, rides a motorbike,  very pretty and rich! He’s an orphan so he’s the guy who seems to suffer the most emotionally. Has an unrequited love for his cousin, Kang Hyun Min’s first love Hye Ji so basically you just wanna hug and tell him to give up all his sufferings and come to you haha.

Kang Hyun Min (Ahn Jae Hyun) – trying to appear like a playboy all the time to cover up his love for Hye Ji. He drives hot cars, hotter than his chicks! His cocky attitude is more charming than annoying. Playful like a child but extremely gifted with a supermodel face! He knows that he’s rich and he’s definitely not afraid to show it off.

Kang Seo Woo (Lee Jung Shin) – our sweet and kind musician but everyone knows those are never enough to win your girl. He’s quite romantic doing his confession through a song. It made the girl feel loved? No, in this case actually awkward as she was into someone else. It was always poor Seo Woo. But wait, among the 3, he’s the one I’ve got a crush on! Not the character though but the artist Lee Jung Shin of CNBLUE.  Been waiting for him to be in dramas like the other members. My wish had been heared! Thank you!

Eun Ha Won (Park So Dam) – our Cinderella! Not the prettiest. Also not the tallest but you’ll love her like how the cousins love her in this drama. Hard-working, sincere and has the ability to lead and love, she won the heart of everyone especially her preferred Kang cousin Ji Won.

Chemistry! Kang Hyun Min and Hye Ji have the best chemistry but our leads Kang Ji Won and Eun Ha Won are not much behind especially at the end when the story became more focused on these two.

So generous with kissing scenes. Though our leads’ first kissing scene occurred in a much later episode, more were given at the end. Sky Ranch and stairway kissing scenes were my absolute favorites!

Sky House is over the top! It’s befitting our 3 pretty princes although I thought it lacked proper security haha.

Quite thrilling last episodes when grandpa and Ji Won had to go into liver surgery while Hyun Min tried to win the votes of shareholders against grandpa losing his position as chairman.

Lovely twist! When Ji Won and Ha Won found out that they had met before during their mothers’ funeral. Their love got supported by undeniable fate!

Love the OST! Check out…

I just love the ending. Everyone had a  happy closure. Finally a blessing from the powerful grandpa to our Ji Won and Ha Won. The quite childish Hyun Min taking responsibility over his love. Seo Woo back into what he actually loves most, busking. Secretary Yoon Sung’s decision to protect the company. Grandpa’s successful surgery and him making-up with his ex-wife (cute scene). Of course, picnic reunion as ending.

Dislikes: The boys sometimes are obviously wearing too much lipstick. Too much! They’re sooo pretty already.

Though the story shouldn’t be taken seriously, minimal exaggeration of annoying characters should have been applied. Like Ha Won to be less nagging, step daughter and mother less annoying, fake father less stupid…
