Likes: So many reasons to like this drama! It was highly entertaining with some sense of depth plus, I’ve got to say, artistic presentation. Definitely, one of my favourites this year! So, shall we go through the most important points…

Cute Intro. The intro itself is a treat! I love the scenes, the music, the whale and the editing of that short piece was simply awesome. I normally skip intros if they are not worth the time but this one, I would always watch. It just gave every episode a good and happy start.

Autism World. I know, it doesn’t represent all, but the show gave us an understanding about the word autism and the people affected by it, the autistic and the people around that person. It teaches us to be more emphatic towards them. Attorney Woo was of course exceptionally genius, but she represented hope and acceptance.

Case Stories. I love how well-crafted the stories behind every legal case were. They really made every episode interesting. They were a brilliant addition to the already-captivating romantic story between the leads. If I were to choose, I love the case they took in Jeju. Aside from showcasing the beauty of the island, it became the healing case for everyone, realizing what really matters in life. There was a lot of turning points like for the sick Attorney Jung, who discovered he had stage 3 stomach cancer. Attorney Kwon, the tactician, who had a change of heart. Unfortunately, a break up had happened but overall, it was a good trip and a good case.

The Awesome Cast. Everyone really did a great job!

Park Eun Bin as Woo Young Woo – she was brilliant as Attorney Woo! This lady can take any role and I thought last year’s The King’s Affection was her best, but looking at this drama, I think she topped that performance. She was immersed in this role! The facial expression, mannerism, the walk, the talk were perfectly mastered. Hands down for such a brilliant performance! I would love to see her more in the future!

Kang Tae Oh as Lee Jun Ho – finally, a leading man role for this handsome, charismatic, young man! Watching his past dramas, Kang Tae Oh was always undoubtedly a great actor. Though only taking supporting roles, he would always shine. As Lee Jun Ho, he was so admirable because of his kindness towards Attorney Woo. He would look at her with so much love. Who wouldn’t fall in love with this guy?

Kang Ki Young as Jung Myeong Seok – wow, I think this role will bring Kang Ki Yong to places. He was just awesome as Attorney Jung! I would want him as my mentor too! The passion in working as a lawyer was all written on his face! He looked great in suits too!

Jin Kyung as Tae Su Mi – I’ve got to mention this lady. She was so classy as Tae Su Mi, Attorney Woo’s mum! The way she talked, walked and dressed, just gorgeous! Her entrance to the court made everyone acknowledged her presence, just so much class and power!

Supporting Love Team. The budding romance between Attorney Won and Choi was so cute. These two were fighting like cat and dog from the very start. Slowly, at the end, they were getting closer. I knew it! Jeju island will do that to you, you know? Seen it all in past kdramas!

Attorney Woo’s Amazing Friends. I love how she managed to have great friends! The close friend from high school Dong Geu Ra Mi was a gem! Loud but super funny and he was like a big sister/protector to Attorney Woo. And my gosh, that viral “Woo to the Young to the Woo” replied by “Dong to the Geu to the Ra Mi”, was just amazing!

The other friend is Attorney Choi Su Yeon, from university who was always there for Attorney Woo. For her, Attorney Choi is “Spring Sunshine Su Yeon”! So sweet!

Quotable Quotes. They’re mostly by our dear Attorney Woo…

“If I were a whale, would my mum not have abandoned me?” – after she was talking about mommy whales never abandoning their babies during a hunt (heartbreaking 😢).

“You keep on popping in my head even if you’re not a whale.” – Attorney Woo to Jun Ho during her confession

“What you see isn’t everything. Don’t be blinded by what you can see. Keep in mind the essence of what lies beyond that.” – Abbot of Jeju temple

“I’m like a narwhal in a pod of Belugas. I live in a unfamiliar ocean with unfamiliar belugas. Because everyone’s different from me, it’s not easy to adjust, and there are lots of whales that hate me too. But it’s okay, because this is my life. Though my life is unusual and peculiar, it’s valuable and beautiful.” – Attorney Woo to her mum Tae Su Mi

The Ending. I really love the ending! They could have not done it any better. The last case with Attorney Woo’s half brother involved was the perfect wrapping up to her story. There was definitely reconciliation but never in a cheesy way. It was all well done! Such an awesome ending!

My Rating: 9 stars! (10 as highest)

The King’s Affection

the kings affection kdramaSummary: King Lee Hwi has a big secret. She’s a girl who has to live as a king to replace her crown prince twin brother who got killed for pretending to be her. Things get complicated when the king’s new teacher happens to be the guy she once liked.

Trailer: The King’s Affection

Genre:  Period, Romance, Gender Bender, Kings & Princes, Flower Boys, Webtoon
Episodes: 20
Stars: Park Eun Bin as Lee Hwi
Ro Woon as Jung Ji Woon
Nam Yoon Soo as Lee Hyun / Prince Jaeun
Choi Byung Chan as Kim Ga On
Bae Yoon Kyung as Shin So Eun

Likes: Another gender bender favourite, this time taking the role of the king of Joseon himself. A very tricky situation and I thought at first this would come out too shabby, but thanks to the brilliant cast, especially Park Eun Bin, who did such an amazing job as King Lee Hwi! Accompanied by a detailed story of love, friendship, family and loyalty, and with a great focus on character development, this drama exceeded my expectation.

Background story. We had 2 long episodes of how the whole switch had happened and I love how detailed the story was about the young crown prince and his twin sister. It involved many beautiful scenes in the past, but it didn’t end without the heartbreaking ones. This well-told background story clearly gave us a good understanding of the later King’s challenges and sufferings.

I love the girl who took the role of the young crown prince and Dam-i. She was brilliant! Really good casting as I couldn’t even tell if she was a boy or a girl. Her acting skills are quite impressive for such a young age.

Brilliant Cast. As mentioned above, even the young actor was pretty good. Let’s take a look at the rest…

Park Eun Bin as Lee Hwi – Hands down to this lady for being so awesome in this role! In fact, she took our KdramastoWatch 2021 best actress award. She very well deserved that! She commanded strength, courage, power, intelligence and above all beauty. Park Eun Bin managed to be handsome and beautiful at the same time, and I thought that was very impressive. I loved her voice too, not too feminine, could really get away with being a man. Her shooting arrows, sword-fighting, horseback riding, saving someone from tripping may it be a gentleman or a lady, made my poor heart flutter so much 😂.

Ro Woon as Jung Ji Woon – I’m starting to like Ro Woon but to match Park Eun Bin’s height, they could have casted someone a bit shorter. In fairness to Ro Woon, he was quite cute here and he had a good chemistry with Park Eun Bin.

Nam Yoon Soo as Lee Hyun / Prince Jaeun – oh my our poor second lead who of course didn’t up with the lady but at least he got the throne in the end. I like Nam Yoon Soo’s very friendly face. And as Prince Jaeun, his loyalty, love and friendship to the lady king was very commendable.

Animated Intro. You might not have noticed how beautiful this animated intro is, so please check it out here. It’s short but somehow it captures the king’s journey at one glance. Such a pretty watercolour art too!

Undeniably fitting OST.  I just thought the song was perfect for the drama! The romance is there but you can also feel the pain, the longing, and the sadness. Check out One and Only by Lyn, this will bring you back memories.

Favourite Quotes: “A good rain knows its season right.”

“Until the end of my days, my life would have been filled with nothing more than meaningless attempts to stay alive. What king of a life would that be?” -King Lee Hwi

Ending: Loved the epilogue! How beautiful she had become with that hairpin on her hair!

Dislikes: They should stop casting too caucasian-looking-Koreans for historical drama. Their looks just don’t suit well in this era.

My Rating: 8.5 stars! (10 as highest)
